They've already made Bret's new T-shirt.

Part of the reason I haven't commented on this subject yet is because it hasn't come out yet what, exactly, got Bret back in. The disrespect shown by WWE to Bret (and I don't just mean the screwjob itself, I mean how they handled it for the following twelve years as well) is too significant, and Bret is too prideful, for him to just decide "Oh well, I'll come back." This means there is a specific reason that Bret is doing this. Three main theories:

Bret has always said he would come back to do the induction if WWE ever decided to put Stu or Owen in the HoF. It could be that Vince agreed to put one of them in this year if Bret would actually come back and do some work for WWE. The more likely candidate here would be Stu, since Owen's widow Martha is still vehemently opposed to seeing Owen inducted, and so I don't see how you can go ahead with that one without coming across like total heels.

It's possible it is a monetary situation, because Bret now has two divorces under his belt, and the rumors abound that this second one cost him quite a bit. If this is the case, it's the closest of the three to getting to the point of sellout, but the simple fact here is that if Bret Hart needs money, he's gotta do what he's gotta do. It would be like accusing Ric Flair of being a sellout for coming back and wrestling, when he's doing it mostly because he's too immature to figure out how not to blow every paycheck he makes.

The third possibility is simply that Bret's niece and nephew, as well as a family friend in Tyson Kidd, work for the company, and maybe Bret agreed to appear on the grounds that WWE stops treating them like insignificant jobbers. I actually find this to be the least likely situation due to WWE's firmly held belief that you should never, under any circumstances, try to get new talents over, but we'll see. I would seriously love to see WWE make me eat my words on this last one, the industry needs new stars.
Once upon a time, a man lived. This man was a man who really lived. He was the best there was at what he did, living. Living is what he did, and he did it well. In fact, he did it too well. He lived so well that he made other people stop living. That is why he had to be stopped. To stop him, they sent Rimo.

lol, Okay, I confess.

Though I will be fair here. The fact that I knew with such certainty that it was coming does make a statement in and of itself about the situation. Still, though, while it's possible that it is a sellout situation, it just seems uncharacteristic of Bret to me.

MAybe, just maybe Bret and Vince are trying to make amends, and Bret wants to cement his legacy in the ring with something good rather than the Montreal Screw Job?

It would be nice if that was the case, but I don't see Bret and Vince ever admitting to each other that they were both partially to blame for what happened in Montreal, and I think that's what it would take for this to simply be a case of them making amends. It's also very unlikely due to his stroke that Bret will be getting back in the ring at all during this return to WWE. I'm not saying it won't happen, just that if I had to make a guess, it would be that Bret will only be appearing as a character. My guess is we'll see something similar to WrestleMania 23 where they had Vince and Trump choose representatives to face off in a match. I would say 'Mania 26, it's entirely possible that Vince and Bret will do the same thing.

As I'm sitting here thinking about it now, Shawn vs. Taker makes a lot of sense to fit in that role. Vince could choose Shawn for...well, pretty obvious reasons, and Bret could choose Taker because of the long standing respect and friendship between the two. The only problem with that one is that there's absolutely no way they will turn HBK heel. Too bad, though, that could be interesting.
