Nobody expects Impact to bust out a rating even comparable to Raw on Monday. Even if WWE wasn't bringing Bret back that night, TNA would still absolutely be blown out of the water. Impact generally does in the realm of a 1.1 to a 1.3 in the ratings. Obviously, at least a good chunk of that number is a crossover audience that also watches Raw, so honestly, TNA should be ecstatic if they manage to still pull out, say, a 0.8 on Monday. Monday's not really about TNA pulling in a huge rating, though. It's more about finding out if TNA can simply pull in a big enough rating that they can start considering making the big move to Mondays, which SpikeTV has already said they would consider. TNA's only officially announced big deal is Hulk Hogan and all the things that implies (which will involve the political aspects of Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett, and Mick Foley). However, they've implied that Kevin Nash is getting an nWo reunion put together (they obviously couldn't use the nWo name, but there are rumors that TNA has been in discussions with Scott Hall and Sean Waltman), and while neither has been announced or even confirmed online past the point of some vague rumors, there is a -possibility- that we could be seeing Ric Flair and/or Rob Van Dam. It also looks likely that we'll see a TNA Championship match between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. Really, the main thing they're trying to get across is "Hulk Hogan is coming, and you'd better expect some sort of big announcements made at this show." |
Once upon a time, a man lived. This man was a man who really lived. He was the best there was at what he did, living. Living is what he did, and he did it well. In fact, he did it too well. He lived so well that he made other people stop living. That is why he had to be stopped. To stop him, they sent Rimo.

Should be interesting to say the least. Key for TNA. New Storylines. Thats what made ECW grow. Thats all they had. Really, thats all TNA should focus on. And to stop using all the old stars. Make new ones. |

Not as much of a big deal as I was expecting. Performance and drama wise, it was just like any other episode of RAW. I watched TNA too. Although the new additions and angles are doomed to fail, at least TNA made a HUGE show that was unlike anything they'd put out before. TNA wins the night (but they still suck) BTW, can't Vince sue TNA for that nWo music ripoff? That was a bit blatant. Edited by Kat, Jan 5 2010, 09:10 AM.

I actually thought the opening segment of Raw with Bret and HBK was one of the best talking segments WWE has put on in a long time. While Kai's totally right that, at least on a surface level, the drama there was no different than anything else, I think having the context surrounding it made it really, really captivating. I don't think the Vince and Bret segment at the end was anywhere near as good, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that Vince just isn't as interesting of a character than HBK. I think I also just personally got sucked in from the start, because I found myself unexpectedly emotional at seeing Bret Hart walk down to a WWE ring again. TNA had its ups and downs. I think starting with the big, red birdcage from hell was a mistake, since you have to imagine there is at least a chunk of the audience who was actually seeing TNA for the first time ever. I felt bad for Homicide when he (at least apparently) blew the finish by being unable to get out of the top. TNA bringing Jeff Hardy in makes sense from a merchandise perspective, but...um...the man is still on trial and could wind up in freaking prison for up to 14 years. This could backfire on TNA in a big way. With Impact, I think what it boiled down to for me was that I was really enjoying the in-ring stuff (Both the Knockout Tag Title match and World Championship match were really, really good), while the outside the ring stuff felt a little too 1997 WCW for me. I'm still excited for TNA going forward, and I am really curious to see what the future holds for them, but all I could think was "I just watched a segment with Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, and Sting. Isn't this 2010?" |

So Kai, did Bret sell out, or was he being a man and putting it behind him? |

i wasn't going to say, but you asked. Yes, he sold out. He did it on the condition that daddy get inducted this year. You either are or you aren't ready to put the past behind you. There should be no conditions to that, but in Bret's case, there was. He wouldn't be willing to put the past behind him if the HOF thing wasn't on the table. |
