i resent that ![]() i always liked Shawn even after what happened in Montreal, and i always had a great deal of understanding for why Vince did what he did so i never hated him either. Bret was being selfish and egosentric when he refused to drop the title to Shawn when everyone knows that in wrestling you never leave any company as champion. your final match in a company you always drop the title to the next man in line as a show of respect not only for the business but also the company that made you a household name. also with what happened with Alundra Blayze i don't blame Vince for anything he did, he was nervous about what could happen if Bret decided to double cross him with Bischoff. |

The Bret Hart documentary is on Netflix streaming... If you haven't seen this you have to watch it... One night changed wrestling forever. Vince went from a commentator to one of the best characters in the biz all by accident .... |

well back in the day there was no "no compete" clauses in peoples contracts (wich can be seen by when Rick Rude filmed a taped episode of RAW and then the next week while that aired he showed up on Nitro live) so IF Bischoff wanted to be a real dick and Bret decided to take the bate then what would stop Bret from showing up the next night on Nitro with the WWF World Championship instead of handing it over on RAW. If that had happened then that would have signaled the beginging of the end for WWF and WCW would have won the Monday Night Wars. Vince maybe be a lot of things but one thing he is not is stupid. there was no way in hell he would give WCW the chance to totaly screw over WWF on live TV, so Vince did the screwing instead when Bret was not going to follow tradition. side note: 40 people in teh Rumble this year

I do agree in that I understand Vince's desire to protect his business. I also understand him having absolutely no trust in Eric Bischoff (and, in fact, would assume that Bischoff would have asked Bret to bring the belt with him to do something disrespectful to it). The problem here is that Bret Hart never would have even considered taking the belt with him. He simply would have refused. Vince was so understandably paranoid (and, frankly, is himself such a dick), that the thought never occured to him that he was dealing with someone who had grown up and spent his entire life around the business, loved and respected the business, and wasn't leaving the WWF on any sort of bad terms, so he had no real reason to worry about Bret. Also, with the Bret not following tradition thing, let's remember who he was being asked to drop the belt to. Shawn Michaels is the guy that, to Bret's face, told him he would never, ever drop a belt to him. HBK is an all-time legend, and phase 2 of his career after he came back in 2002 did a lot to erase the bad memories, but remember that he was possibly the most insufferable prick in the history of the business at the time of the screwjob. Granted, Bret had the choice of being the bigger man and declined, but I still to this day have a hard time blaming him for utilizing the creative control clause Vince McMahon himself put in Bret's contract in that situation. Again, though...Vince is right, Bischoff would have tried to screw him over royally. |
Once upon a time, a man lived. This man was a man who really lived. He was the best there was at what he did, living. Living is what he did, and he did it well. In fact, he did it too well. He lived so well that he made other people stop living. That is why he had to be stopped. To stop him, they sent Rimo.
