I have to agree with Kai on this one. Kurt is hurt way to badly at this point to be put into any kind of match like TNA or MMA. His release from the WWE probably saved his health and his well being and he goes and pulls a stupid stunt like this. On a personal note i hope he lives through this okay but he has no buisness being in the ring right now. |

Alright, so now that it's had a little bit of time to sink in and I'm not just posting my immediate reaction, I thought I'd post on this again. I think TNA haters are going to wind up making this into a worse thing than it really is, but that's not to say that this isn't a bad thing. I do think TNA made a questionable decision by bringing Kurt Angle in, and just looking at the surface of this, it looks like they made a really heartless decision. However, after thinking about it a bit, I think I find myself leaning more toward the third perspective I posted earlier, which is that TNA may be the safer place for Kurt to be right now. Here's the thing...no matter what happened, Kurt Angle wasn't going to spend this time sitting out and resting. He -should- have, and he's a complete idiot for not doing so, but it just isn't realistic to expect Kurt Angle not do be participating in some sort of athletic thing. So, that provides three major options for Kurt: WWE (okay, this one isn't really valid, but for the sake of this post, just go with it), TNA, and MMA. Obviously, MMA is far and away the most dangerous of those three, and I think we're all thankful he's not doing that. But between WWE and TNA, I do think TNA is going to be better for Kurt's health right now. The way TNA does tapings, they tape two Impacts at a time, meaning they only have two TV tapings a month and a PPV. It's reasonable to expect Kurt wrestling on Impact will be a rarity, and since TNA is very infrequently running house shows, Kurt's most likely going to be wrestling only two or three times a month, period. On top of that, he won't have to spend four days a week on the road going from city to city, just to Orlando every other Monday. So again...TNA probably shouldn't have brought him in, and Kurt definitely shouldn't be doing anything to take a toll on his body right now. However, since he was destined to wind up somewhere, I think TNA did him a great service by signing him up. |
Once upon a time, a man lived. This man was a man who really lived. He was the best there was at what he did, living. Living is what he did, and he did it well. In fact, he did it too well. He lived so well that he made other people stop living. That is why he had to be stopped. To stop him, they sent Rimo.

I'm not even talking about the health thing. I'm talking about the fact that Angle IS WWE. WIth the exception of the Undertaker, Angle is probable the biggest current name associated with WWE (ok, not valid since he was cut...but you know what I mean). Angle is one of the main reasons WWE won the Monday Night Wars or whatever. Having him jump to a crappy program like TNA is like Stone Cold, Rock, or Undertaker jumping to Japanese Wrestling or Luchadores or something lame like that. Like Michael Jordan playing for the Wizards.....that shit just ain't right. |

I do see where you're coming from on that, Kai, but I think there's an interesting counterpoint to that. TNA as it stands right now is a program where its weekly show is cramped, and nothing is really allowed to get over as it should (except, of course, for Jeff Jarrett), but its monthly PPV's almost constantly get rave reviews and provide some of the best wrestling you can get in America right now. Kurt Angle is one of those guys who is good no matter what, but when you put him in a big match situation and tell him to steal the show, he becomes unbelievable. Therefore, I would make the argument that Kurt Angle is much more of a PPV talent than a TV talent, and since PPV's are TNA's strong point, I think Kurt Angle is actually a better fit in TNA than he is in WWE. I think the idea of having Kurt Angle work a significantly lighter weekly schedule, but then be allowed to go on a PPV and try to have the match of the night against people like Samoa Joe and Senshi is a fantastic way of booking Kurt, even if he wasn't as hurt as he is. |

So How would I know this? I don't have no idea what happens in the wrestling world. All I know is that what I see on TV... and all the Vince hating I read here... And that I like Divas... |

Most of what the average wrestling fan sees is the TV broadcasts. Most of us don't watch most of the PPVs, and many don't see any of them. If being a great wrestler was the only important thing then why have people like Benoit been brushed to the side...constantly? Because like it or not, a wrestler is cheered or booed based on personality (or character). Kurt Angle has always been one of the most entertaining superstars...even when he doesn't wrestle. That's why he's so great..because he has the personality and the ability. Rock was nothing great in the ring, neither was Hogan..but they are the biggest names in wrestling history. By jumping to TNA, Angle is hurting his career in two ways. 1- His character/personality will be gone. He'll show up as some sort of a badass but will not really get to do what makes him the most entertaining...and that's talk shit, act like an honorable man or a coward depending on if he's a heel or face at the time. The 2nd way he's hurting his career is that he is no longer in his prime. He's jumping to a show where wrestling ability is the most important thing, but he's not the wrestler he's been anymore. So people will start to see him as a lesser person..judging him on his CURRENT wrestling ability alone since he will no longer have a personality to deliver. Look at Christian. He was a good wrestler but nobody really liked him for that reason. He was liked because he was enjoyable everytime he had the mic. Now that he's in TNA, he's become a nothing. |
