While some Star Trek actors have appeared on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, it's much less common for a Stargate actor to appear on Star Trek.

As reported by Slice of SciFi, Paul McGillion, best known for his role of Dr. Carson Beckett on Stargate: Atlantis, will be appearing in Star Trek XI. Who he will play is not yet known.

Actors from various Star Trek shows have appeared in Stargate SG-1 or Stargate: Atlantis, including: Robert Picardo (EMH) who played Woolsey on both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, John de Lancie (Q), who played Colonel Simmons on Stargate SG-1, Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) who played Ishta on Stargate SG-1 and Colm Meaney (Miles O'Brien) who played Cowen on Stargate: Atlantis. According to McGillion, "I think Beckett's the first character to cross over into the Star Trek world from Stargate, if I'm not mistaken."

McGillion spoke recently about his work on Star Trek XI. "I can't speak a lot about that project [Star Trek XI] because I signed a confidentiality clause in that," he explained. "I read for the part of Scotty. I was up for that for a while. That went to Simon Pegg, who is a terrific actor. And then I had a the great opportunity to be able to read for the show and J.J. Abrams is such a great filmmaker and I can't say enough things about him. [He's] just a great guy and so inviting and just a real class act."

"It was a thrill to work on such a big budget feature and I think it's going to be really great," said McGillion. "I'm very excited to see it myself. I had the opportunity to work on it which was really nice to be part of a huge franchise like that. It was cool to be part of that, and like I said, to be able to work with somebody like J.J. Abrams who's done so much was a real pleasure for me and I'd do it again at the drop of a hat. It was a real thrill to work on it. But like I said, I really can't say much about it because we signed a lot of confidentiality clauses on it and they're keeping it pretty top secret. From my experience, from everything he has done, his track record, I think it's something the fans are going to be really excited about and I think he'll keep the integrity of Star Trek alive.
