I recently watched "Caretaker" again and I thought, for the most part, it was kind of silly. The scene inside the array with those "Southerners" was not very imaginative. Couldn't the writers have found a more interesting way for Voyager have been pulled into the Delta Quadrant?

I always wondered why an uber-power being, dragging a 24th century ship and crew 75K LY, would choose to greet them in a 20th (possibly even 19th) century manner.

You cant expect 110% from others, when most times, they don't expect even 90% from themselves. -- Me.

I like the episode!

Im not sure why they chose to use a farm.. perhaps it was one of the first things the Caretaker found in the data base..maybe someone had just accessed something similar..

Mostly I think he was just trying to throw them off.. distract them and it worked for awhile... that crazy farm would throw me off!

That crazy farm would throw anybody off...especially if he started playing "dueling banjos"...all the men would be running for cover.

I'm not going to say it was really good nor am I going to say it was really bad. It fell right in the middle.

The farm thing was probably the most hospitable thing he probably could of came up with. Who knows, in the 24th century there are probably farms that still exsist and are ran pretty much like how they would of been ran in the 20th century with a few technological upgrades. Just look at the Vineyards where Picard's family lived, They did not look 24th century at all. Remember Janeway supposively grew up on a farm in Indiana. Perhaps she may of been thinking of her home.

"Caretaker" is also the most expensive Trek episode ever produced. So a few cut backs might explain it as well.

it might have been the most expensive episode up to that point. I know they were saying that Barge of the Dead was also the most expensive episode up to that point. And I'm sure episodes of Enterprise became more expensive too

I agree. I didn't like that Hillbilly theme either. It was a bad distraction to the rest of the episode. I still thought it was a great pilot, I just wish they had used something else.
