* WARNING THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SOME SMALL SPOILERS THEY WILL BE PLACED IN SPOILER TAGS FOR THE MOST PART *

thanks to the trailer, and 4 scenes that were shown in London, and later transcripted and placed on the internet, we know that the origins of the crew have been changed to an extent, I'm guessing the timetravel plot is meant to try to quell any anger that the changes might cause in more hard core fans, but depending on how the movie ends we'll be left with a few options, either the universe we know has been altered, but everything pretty much ends how it's supposed to atleast for the TOS crew, the timeline interference creates an alternate timline, that this movie is in, will the movie end with the original timeline being reinstated? or will it be that it continues in it's alternate one, but all's been mostly set right anyway, or the timeline is effectively wiped, and this is the new timeline and how things 'really' went

From the trailer we've already seen that Kirk is a bit of a troubled child... and that he can apparently drive just fine, something that a mild canon violation,
Spoiler: click to toggle
, we also see Kirk driving up to the construction of the Enterprise in Iowa (I think)
Spoiler: click to toggle
we see Kirk and Spock fighting, and one has to wonder why Spock is being so emotional, and also how this in any way fits with "The Cage" in which Kirk is certainly not seen, nor any of the other TOS crew aside from Spock
we know that the Entire TOS crew, except for Kirk is assigned to the Enterprise at it's launch from the trailer scenes and internet spoilers, causing yet another change in the origins story, as originally Chevok wasn't even onboard, or atleast not on the bridge durring the first season, and McCoy didn't show up in the Second TOS pilot, there was a different CMO
Spoiler: click to toggle

also via the Trailer we see the Entire TOS crew being under the command, atleast initially, of Pike amoung other examples

now as long as in the end everyone's where they're supposed to be I guess the question is do you care how they go there? does it matter if the way they go there changed so long as they're still where they're supposed to be in end?

one thing I want to point out Darren, THE CAGE doesn't qualify as canon. Only the scenes extracted and inserted into The Menagerie qualify.
Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.

hmmm... good point, but almost all of the pilot is used for the two part Ep isn't it? including the fact that Spock isn't the first officer, and that non of the other TOS crew is there (Majel is the first officer girl right?)

nothing is ever said about Majel being the very first First Officer of the Enterprise or of old dude being the very first CMO. And we don't even know if Spock and McCoy will even hold those positions in the new movie. McCoy might be a junior doctor and answer to the real CMO. Spock might be some random low ranking science officer, right?

That being said, Spock was always the science officer and the first officer. Same With ENTERPRISE, T'Pol was first officer and science officer... Probably because of lack of room on the smaller ships, everyone has more than one duty.
