JJ Abrams' vision of Star Trek.

That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. The Canon Nazis are crying that all sorts of canon violations (whatever) are in plain sight. There shouldn't be known products (Budweiser, BMW, Corvette, etc..) seen in the 23rd Century. For anyone other than Shatner to be playing Kirk is an outrage. The Bridge looks like an overgrown iPod.
The nacells are too damn big. The overall appearance of the ship sucks.

I've heard a shitload more complaints. What I typed above are but a few that I've read on various boards and blogs.

My personal feeling is that this is JJ's VISION. It's what he thinks Trek should look like.
Imagine the Warsies outcry if Nicholas Meyer made a Star Wars Movie? And did it in his "vision"? Would it mean the end of civilization as we know it?
Hell no it wouldn't.
The world won't end because of this movie. Our sun won't go Super Nova on us.
If you don't want to see it, then don't. Please don't sit there and boo the screen and ruin my night out. But, who knows? You may force yourself to see it and maybe, just maybe, you might actually like it.
You never know. ;)

actually, for the most part I like the discussion about the new movie that has happened here. I have no problem with people discussing issues about the information that has been released. My issue is with people who repeat over and over the movie is crap and use rumour imagined facts if they bother to back up their statement at all.

I agree Wissa.
And they're beating the crap out of an already dead horse.
Those same people can't deal with any kind of change, even if it's just a little bit, let alone a lot.
But I think that the same people that bitch the loudest will still go to see it just because curiosity killed the can and may just bring it back.

I agree also wissa. After all this film is going to be big for a lot of people in different ways. It is a change which big franchises often dont get, and it could go either way. Like a face lift it is still bound by the things that we recognise but pepped up and made into something a newer base can enjoy as well. If current fans see things they dont like, fair enough, dont accept it as "cannon" But it is bound to be different and change is good.

well change is not always good

but I think in this case change was necessary. The b&b era trek was getting stale and tired. And we just weren't watching it as much. That, to the the powers that be, said we didn't want it anymore. As far as I'm concerned it is a big leap of faith of them to even try another one.

someone at st.com described this as being what tos would have been if it was developed now. I kinda like that idea.

yeah that sounds like a nice idea... I think even if it fails, something down the road, in a few years or maybe more will eventually replace star trek or re-new it. I don't think its something that can die. Someone will reboot it again if it doesn't work this time like BSG did.

I started watching trek when there was really no hope of any thing more than the 3 seasons we had. I guess I'm not as confident as you that trek will always continue. I think there is a really good chance that after 3 or 4 failed outings they will just move on.

Fair enough...

...I do think there is future potential to at least base things off it though. I dont know maybe I am kidding myself, but i dont think it will die.

I thought Trek boards were the place to talk about the new movie. I didn't know that we could only talk about only positive things. I didn't know that we could only talk about how excited we are to see a new great movie

if people can share the opinion that they are looking forward to the movie, then people should also be able to say that they're NOT excited to see it

Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.
