I just hope this doesnt wind up being more of a GalaxyQuest than it is a Star Trek movie. They should have left the ship alone or at least, not have modified it so much.

As for the product placement, getting those companies to foot a portion of the production bill to equalize any box office loss there might be is a pretty smart idea, just so long as it isnt blatant, "in-your-face" and contrived, a-la "The Truman Show".

All I can say for sure is that I dont do the movie theater anymore for just about everything, so I'll be waiting for this to hit disc and come home, and that in and of itself is a historical moment, for it will be the first Trek film, that I not only didnt see in the theater, but also dont see on opening day.

So there, Its still a history making Trek event as far as I'm concerned.

I thought Trek boards were the place to talk about the new movie. I didn't know that we could only talk about only positive things. I didn't know that we could only talk about how excited we are to see a new great movie

if people can share the opinion that they are looking forward to the movie, then people should also be able to say that they're NOT excited to see it

You WILL like the new movie!!! :torture:

yes, I probabaly will

i've said several times. I think this movie is going to be good. I think it's going to be a great action adventure sci fi movie.

I just think it's going to be a bad Star Trek movie

And as I've said before, not only do I think that it will be a good Trek Movie, but a movie that will also bring new fans into the fold. :fingers:

I just don't see how that can happen. Like it or not Star Trek has a negative stigma. People consider it geeky and make fun of it. No amount of saying "this is not your father's Star Trek" is going to change that.

I doubt that there are millions of people who are suddenly going to jump up and say "Hey I have to go see that new Star Trek movie!!!"

My friend called me the other day and told me that he saw the trailer (he's not a trekkie at all) I asked him if it looked like something he would want to see. His answer was "HEEEEEELLLLLL NO!"

While I hope the best for the movie and the future of Trek. I fear that this movie will be too different for the old fans to enjoy, but won't be able to escape the stigma of Star Trek enough to attract new fans. I'm afraid the movie will be a flop, and once again it will be blamed on "lack of interest by the fans"

Only one way to find out how successful this film will be is to wait and see.

tng in it's heyday was actually a cool thing to watch. When we first started dating my husband bought me this communicator broach that actually made the sound. I wore it to work one day and all the bike couriers in town were coming in to see it all day.

I thought the same thing when I heard about tng.

and of course people can not like the movie. My problem is people ranting that this is crap and only morons would be interested. We get enough of that for liking trek in the real world we shouldn't have to be insulted on a trek board for liking any kind of trek.

I don't care if people like the movie or not. I'm just saying that from what I've heard about it. I think it sounds cool as a movie, but not so good as a STAR TREK movie.

and I'm getting realy sick of people telling people who are expressing concern about the new movie to "STFU and go watch your dvds"

well I was just on the movie forum at st.com where posters with less than 100 posts who are positive about the movie are being accused of being studio plants. You think that is ok?
