I am a bit leery about it but I personally want to wait to actually see the movie before I make the call.

While i'm excited about a new Trek movie and i think from what i've seen it will be very exciting and more mainstream

I think i'll wait until i've seen it before i say it going to , or is great

Saw a piece on the TV about it today

First time i've seen anything about Star TRek on a morning TV program in about 20 years

That makes me excited

I'm excited about a new look and new direction. I'm excited that it is getting so much hype. I'm worried that it will suck donkey balls.

the hype is a great thing... often the trek films dont get a lot of it, but at comic cons, film cons, all over the media, in papers etc. they are really going all out, which means a lot of people might just watch it out of interest.

I am excited to see what this does for trek, weather its just a swan call or something bigger.

I think that it's going to be great and won't fall into the "odd-numbered movies suck" stigma.

I like the trailer it looks good. I will see the movie first chance I get and then decide how I feel about it.

It's good that so many of our members are so open minded. From some comments I've seen over there there are people who are so sure it will be terrible that they don't even intend to ever watch it. There are others who think since it is Trek it would be sacreligious for us all as Trekkies not to support it and see it multiple times even if it does turn out to suck.

It succeeded already in getting Trekkies talking and creating a buzz

I'm very excited. I don't mind that some things have been changed, and I'm as big (or bigger) a ST fan as anybody else. I think ST is a fluid idea of the future, not a set in stone entity that can't ever be changed. I think it's a great idea that they're trying to make it mainstream, because face it- Trek for Trekkies wasn't working. I have friends that are either complete newbies to Trek, or haven't seen it since TNG or DS9 and they're coming with me to the movie. That's fantastic.

I think it's going to be an awful movie...

First, the notion of making all the characters the same age.
Just a terrible idea.

:pinch:

Second, it looks like we've seen a lot of these elements before. Time Travel (Done in two previous movies and lots of episodes across the six series.) A raving madman villian (Let's see, Khan, Kruge, Klaa, Chang, Soren, Borg Queen, R'oufo, and Shinzin or whatever his name was.) oh, and they'll have a scene of the Enterprise leaving spacedock, too. I think we've seen that a bout a dozen times.

Third, An emotionally unstable Spock, and Kirk as a rebel without a cause? Ugh.

:puke:

I think they've gone about this the entirely wrong way. For a fraction of the 100 million they are spending on this movie, which WILL bomb, simply for no other reason than it is coming out in the middle of a recession, they could have made a made for TV movie to air on Sci-Fi, Spike or some other channel, and get the same audience for a lot less.

The problem with a project this big is that everyone has a hand in it, and as the saying goes, too many cooks spoil the broth.

Understanding is a three-edged sword.
