this case gets weirder by the day. Now they are saying her previous 6 children were all concieved through invitro as well. Who is paying for this?

Medical society looking into octuplets' conception

LOS ANGELES – The American Society for Reproductive Medicine says it's investigating whether fertility treatment guidelines were broken in the case of a Southern California woman who gave birth to octuplets last month.

The society said in a statement issued Monday that it asked Nadya Suleman and the doctor for more details about her latest pregnancy. Suleman's six other children were conceived through in vitro procedures.

The voluntary, nonprofit organization has guidelines for the number of embryos that should be implanted to prevent multiple births. But the group can't stop doctors from practicing.

"It seems that the guidelines may not have been followed in Ms. Suleman's case," Dr. R. Dale McClure, president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, said in a statement.

In an interview broadcast Monday on NBC's "Today," Suleman said she underwent in vitro fertilization at a Beverly Hills fertility clinic run by Dr. Michael Kamrava.

The birth of the octuplets has raised questions over the ethics of implanting numerous embryos in a woman who already had six children.

Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week it was looking into the Suleman case to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care." The board said it has not taken any disciplinary action against Kamrava in the past.

Kamrava, 57, would not comment on the issue.

In the NBC interview, Suleman did not identify her doctor by name, but said that she went to the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverly Hills — of which Kamrava is director — and that all 14 of her children were conceived with help from the same doctor. In 2006, Los Angeles TV station KTLA ran a story on infertility that showed Kamrava treating Suleman and discussing embryo implantation.

Suleman said she had six embryos implanted for each of her pregnancies. The octuplets were a surprise result of her last set of six embryos, she said, explaining she had expected twins at most. Two of the embryos evidently divided in the womb.

Medical ethicists have criticized the implanting of so many embryos. National guidelines put the norm at two to three embryos for a woman of Suleman's age, except in extraordinary circumstances.

Kamrava's clinic performed 52 in vitro procedures in 2006, according to the most recent national report compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Of those, five resulted in pregnancies and two in births. One of the births were Suleman's twins.

Kamrava's pregnancy rate that year was one of the lowest in the country. Experts say many factors affect a clinic's success rate including a patient's health and types of procedures done.

The average number of embryos Kamrava transferred per procedure for women under 35 was 3.5, compared with 2.3 nationally the report said. Fertility doctors often implant more than one embryo to increase the chances that one will take hold.

Suleman's octuplets were delivered nine weeks premature but doctors have said they appear relatively healthy.

I have a friend who recently underwent this procedure. I think they only implanted 2 or 3 eggs but earlier when she was just on fertility drugs they actually made her sign an agreement to have multiples decreased if it were more than 3.

What bugs me is when these people get on the news and wind up having all sorts of help groups give them free money, home reconstruction, redecoration, baby-gear, etc, etc.

Its like, hey - I only have one, and I could use some help, and it will cost a whole lot less than what you're shelling out to pimp out those 8 - I dont even have a fuckin home, just an apartment so you'd save a whole bunch on fixing it up.

yeah when they are using science, or perverting science to have this many in the first place they shouldn't be rewarded for it. It's different if it is just a natural twist of faith though. Then I have no problem with people helping them out

i like how at first she claimed that she wasn't and never be on welfare. That she doesn't need taxpayer help. Then a little investigation revealed she's on foodstamps and getting even more government money for her 3 "disabled" kids. Now she's saying...if I am getting taxpayer money then it's only temporary. lol

And she's living off of student loans right now. But says she'll be off walfare once she's finished school. But she's not going to school because she's spending her student loans on her litter.

They say that the hospital bills alone for birthing these 8 kids plus all the care they'll require before getting released from the hospital can get close to 3 million dollars...of OUR fucking tax money!!!

Also, now she's saying that she didn't ask for all this attention. But before she gave birth to the recent litter she was shopping around for a book deal or for a TLC show. She's a fucking loon, and these television new agencies are feeding her sickness by PAYING her to do interviews.
Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.

I heard that she had SIX kids already prior to the new 8.
And here's an interesting little bit of information....From what I understand, in addition to the student loans, she was already on government assistance with food stamps to help her care for the first group of kids she already had...

...SO. Why is she on welfare, yet has money to pay for in-vetro fertilization? and not to mention, why wasnt a line drawn somewhere BEFORE she was artificially fertilized? The question should have been asked.....

"You already have a litter of kids and you're on government assistance - Why are we performing this fertilization? You already can't care for the ones you have without help - Why are you seeking more children that you cant provide for?"

So why am I paying for all these kids?

Panic, Chaos, Disorder....My work here is done.
Now that she has given birth to the next NFL expansion team, funded by the taxpayers, I wonder when othes will see the upside of multiple births and how much more money you can get.

State funds in vitro, 8 babies later , state pays for them as well. More little mouths to feed on the public dole.

Please, think of the children.

Medical ethics take a backseat to the 'I need more little tax deductions' argument.
