Watching the movies

so, I've never been a big fan of the movies. For the most part they have always left me cold. but I got 5 of them for my birthday and with the movie coming up I thought I'd try and watch them all. Last night I watched TMP

I don't think I've watched the whole movie since I saw it in the theatre on opening night. I had been looking so forward to this movie as by that time I'd been watching trek for about 8 years and pretty much had them memorized. Just the thought of something new was pretty exciting and something I had never thought was possible. I have to say it left me cold and dissapointed. The chemestry just wasn't there. The ship looked nothing like the enterprise. I was curious to see how it would look to me now. And they didn't include any of the origional music that said trek to me so well.

The first thing that struck me was the music. It's the same music as TNG. Then the second thing was, what the fuck are they wearing? The colourful uniforms of tos was always something that set star trek apart from other sci fi for me. They were just wearing the standard issue sci fi gray jammies that every other sci fi had.

The special effects were pretty good though. Some of them have not stood up to the test of time like the warp effect. But you could tell they were trying to impress us with them.

But, it's so freaking slow. They could have walked through that cloud faster I think. I think this is a combination of it just being a slow movie and us being used to a so much faster pace thirty years later. Comparing it to the first star wars though it is just slow.

I don't have wrath of khan so the next one will be search for spock.

TMP was very 2001 a space odyssey slow, probably because the original script they expanded to make the movie was a TV Episode outline for the cancelled "Phase II" concept

i hate TMP. i've seen it once, never will again. Whenever I decide to have a ST movie marathon, I always start with WOK and watch them all from there.

How a sequel was ever created after this steaming pile of a movie is beyond me.
Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.
