I'm not understanding the foreign bank thing. Why were they sending money to them?

I'm not understanding the foreign bank thing. Why were they sending money to them?
Because whenever the US pulls out the big red checkbook, everyone puts their hand out?

Yet the average US citizen has to jump through hoops and offer up their first born and fill out days of paperwork to apply for any sort of federal GRANT (as in freebie money not needed to be paid back), only to be told that "ON PAPER", they make too much money to receive such funds unless they're running their own welfare-subsidized baby factory......BUT that they'd be happy to have you apply for a LOAN (that you'd eventually have to pay back) to pay for college.

Thats what I dont understand.
Foreign nations can get free aid and money, but constituent citizens get buried in red tape and otherwise offered a loan option.

You cant expect 110% from others, when most times, they don't expect even 90% from themselves. -- Me.

I don't disagree with the sentiment but this goes beyond AIG. Our Congress knew and approved of these bonuses.

That's a real problem for me. Not only did congress not know how to properly negotiate this bail out money and cover every aspect, it seems that they knew of and approved of these bonuses as part of it. Now when everyone is up an arms they claim they didn't know. This is being handled very very poorly by the Obama administration. If they knew about the bonuses then they should have been prepared for the outrage that would follow and had a reasonable expaination as to why they allowed it. Feigning ignorance was just plain stupid. On top of that it's Andrew Cuomo in NY who's going after AIG to get the money back. Obama was asked the other night why Andrew Cuomo is taking the lead. Obama looked like a deer caught in the headlights and never answered the question. All he had to say was something like due to Cuomo's background he's the best man for the job and their leaving it in his capable hands or some other bull shit. So not only does Obama not know what he's doing financially, he's lost when it comes to handling the media on his own too.

I believe that Obama is a good man and is trying to do the right thing. But much of what he wants will just cost too much money and shouldn't take priority in this kind of an economy. He has to get it under control first, but he doesn't seem to understand that or know how to go about it. That could be his biggest downfall if he isn't careful. Unfortunatley, he reminds me of a certain peanut farmer.

Yep and many times these numbers are nationalized, so it doesn't take into consideration the standard of living in New York as compared to some of the other states.

Yeah. He's in way over his head. I actually feel bad for him and even worse for the rest of us!

Well, it's good to know that our Senate is working on truly important matters right now:

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9759GG00&show_article=1

Quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Everyone from President Barack Obama on down to fans has criticized how college football determines its top team. Now senators are getting off the sidelines to examine antitrust issues involving the Bowl Champion Series.

The current system "leaves nearly half of all the teams in college football at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to qualifying for the millions of dollars paid out every year," the Senate Judiciary's subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights said in a statement Wednesday announcing the hearings.

Under the BCS, some conferences get automatic bids to participate in series, while others do not.

Obama and some members of Congress favor a playoff-type system to determine the national champion. The BCS features a championship game between the two top teams in the BCS standings, based on two polls and six computer ratings.

Behind the push for the hearings is the subcommittee's top Republican, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah. People there were furious that Utah was bypassed for the national championship despite going undefeated in the regular season.

The title game pitted No. 1 Florida (12-1) against No. 2 Oklahoma (12-1); Florida won 24-14 and claimed the title.

The subcommittee's statement said Hatch would introduce legislation "to rectify this situation." No details were offered and Hatch's office declined to provide any.

Hatch said in a statement that the BCS system "has proven itself to be inadequate, not only for those of us who are fans of college football, but for anyone who believes that competition and fair play should have a role in collegiate sports."

In the House, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the top Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, has sponsored legislation that would prevent the NCAA from calling a football game a "national championship" unless the game culminates from a playoff system.

Tell it to the guy whose out there working for a living, wondering what he's going to feed his family tonight out of the empty refrigerator and freezer and has to get creative with $5 worth of ground beef and some rice and figure out how to stretch it for 2 days.

This is the also the same guy who wont see money again until next Thursday, and all but $55 of it has to cover the rent check....which by next Thursday, will be late......again.
Who gives a fuck about him? Hamburger Helper Guy? He has NOTHING to do with it. I'd tell him.

If the contract says they get paid (x) no matter what happens, then they have to be paid.

When legaly binding contracts are overturned on the whim of congress because of their 'outrage' (make no mistake congress knew this would happen) why bother having a contract at all?

I'm not unsympathetic to the Hamburger Helper Guy, but it has ZERO to do with this issue.

The Democrats in Congress knew, Obama knew, Gietner knew. Before AIG got more taxpayer money. Their fake fucking populist outrage over millions, when we are talking billions is insulting and just as fucked up as I knew these douchbags were to begin with.

Dragging your Hamburger Helper, cry me a river , bullshit is not the issue and you know it. When the government steps in and tells you the contract you signed is worthless because the don't like your eye color just stand there and take it. It's the same thing they are thinking of doing to AIG.

Jack Sparrow: "Did no one come to save me just because they missed me?"

Jack Sparrow: "Why should I sail with any of you? Four of you have tried to kill me in the past."
[looks at Elizabeth]
Jack Sparrow: "One of you succeeded."

Whatever.

AIG Corp-fat-cat is financially capable of surviving it.
Hamburger Helper guy is not - not that he was ever offered it anyway (heaven forbid)....he was just made to finance it without any choice - and as apparently some consensus might have it, he also shouldnt be mad as hell about it either.

Personally, I don't care if anyone wants to be mad about it. I just think that the rage should be directed towards Congress and the Administration. And I haven't seen anything to indicate that those people deserve to receive death threats or have people protesting outside of their homes.
