Panic, Chaos, Disorder....My work here is done.
Maybe Obama could throw more stimulus money at it to Change it's course and Hope it won't hit us.

You cant attack with a nuke either once it is outbound. these objects are zinging by at at around or at least 20-30K mph, and a nuke trying to first reach escape velocity, will never catch up to it on its outbound trajectory.

you shoot your nuke before the asteroid is outbound, you have it timed so that it strikes the thing once it is outbound.

The only real hope is for landing multiple rocket motors onto it while inbound and far enough away, to affect its trajectory enough to where it is no longer a danger. The hard part there, is that it is not only just an inbound body - its also rotating so the devices would have to be timed as well as placed so as to not undo what any of the others are doing.

but didn't you say that it's zinging by really fast? how can you maneuver and land rockets on something going that fast, it will quickly pass up the rockets and then the rockets won't be able to catch back up.
Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.

our idiotic history making population will choose to amend our Constitution to keep the savior in office for as many terms that he wants.

That COULD possibly work....but its still a surface stand-off blast.

I said while it is inbound - the rockets dont have to catch up to it, its moving towards them while inbound. The carrier satellite vehicle performs gravity-assist maneuvers around other planets, along with controlled burns so as to place it on an intercept course with the inbound, so that the delta of their relative speeds is minimal, and the motors can land gently rather than crash upon it.

so... Denny, it sounds like you're suggesting we create and launch a Asteroid destroying interstellar thingy, the problem is, NASA can't even fund all the flight they have left, and I doubt they'll be able to load, launch, or even make carrier satellite vehicle to do anything seeing as no one seems to care about space anymore, and no one's funding NASA, and even then, it would take them a few years churn something out :dunno:
