Give that Roo a beer

Saturday the 25th of April.

Commemorated by Australian and Zew Zealand is the anniversary of the first major military action fought by the two countries in the First World War.

ANZAC stands for Austalian and New Zealand Army Corps but has come to stand for much more to our countries

It stands for mateship and courage that we as a country have allways been renowned for.

I regret that i'm not well enough to attend the dawn service this morning but i'm hopefull to attend the march later on this morning and could possibly force a couple of beers and rums into me.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget."

more human than Human

who did they battle?
Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes the reason is that you're stupid and make bad decisions.

The turks at Gallipoli

It was a failed campaign to secure a sea route to Russia

It must be pointed out that the reason we remember the ANZACs is to remember the pointleness of war.

The ANZAC campaign was a hopeless battle that they fought with honour and courage knowing that they would more than likely fail.

Many times that is what war is

It's not a hollywood movie and you don't allways win in glorious fashion

It's ugly , brutal and bloody and we hope we never see it again

I wouldn't call it a complete failure...It helped lead to putting the final nail in the coffin of the Ottoman Empire.
Ahh...takes me back. Dad and I sitting on the back porch dropping acid while mom turned tricks in the shed.

Yes that's true Rack , but the intention was to secure a supply line to Russia and in that sense it was ill thought out by the Empire.

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives (at Gallipoli battles).. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours.. You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now living in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
