Frankly, many of you have moved on but if you still enjoy the games, then this new promo may interest you. If you buy specially marked copies of Guitar Hero 5, then you can get a free copy of the upcoming Guitar Hero: Van Halen game. Not a bad deal for fans of the franchise.

great deal, but i'm not quite understanding what needs to be done in order to get the free game. does it HAVE to be a pre-order through the site? Will the site change that allows you to enter your purchase information once GH5 gets officially released? I don't get it.

To be honest, I've grown rather disenchanted with the franchise because of my present hardware limitations. I only have an unmodded slim PS2 ...... no xbox360, no PS3, because I think its retarded to pay $400+ for a game console for games costing $40+ and additionally, If I do decide to ever get a next gen console, it will be a PS3 only because XBox Live costs money, and the only game I'm really interested in waiting for it to come out is God of War III, which is only going to be released for PS3, and even if I do get one, I'm not rebuying band equipment hardware and repaying for game software just to play it on that console.

Pisses me off that the God of War crew are leaving their PS2 customers in a lurch to finish off the franchise with the final episode of the game that they wont be able to play. Software producers shouldnt be hardware pushers. A PS2 version should be made. But anyway, this is a different rant....Back to the music games.

Because I have no harddrive or network connection for a SlimPS2, I cant download specific content - I'm stuck having to buy the actual games with more that 60-70% of songs I have no interest in playing.

I fel they missd out on a market of allowing people to go to a website hosted by the game's parent company, where they have a massive database of songs available, People get to pick any 35 -40 songs they want, select their platform, pay $39.99+ S/H, and then they compile it to a playable disc that gets mailed to you with a track list. Now you're playing the stuff you want that you like and dont have to work through songs you dont want to do just to get to ones that you do want.

I think that would have scored them millions in additional to game sales....and it wouldnt have been that difficult - they already allow download of their material, it would have been simple to compile to a disc and ship it, and it would have reclaimed and added the download sector from those whose hardware limitations prevent them from using that service.

Well, I paid $209 for my 60GB Xbox 360 when Circuit City went into liquidation, but Xbox Live isn't that expensive. There's no reason to pay more than $30 for a year and that works out to less than $2.50 a month. I waste more money than that every day on coffee.

Now, I actually agree that you shouldn't have to go out and buy new instruments, especially if the only game you want for a current system is God of War III. At this point a new system is not a good deal for you. Fair enough.

Thats just part of it - God of War is a Sony title so unless some kind of agreement is reached between Sony and Microsoft, God of War titles will never be released for any other platform. Not realizing this at the time, We went with a regualr Xbox many years ago, only to find that some of the games we wanted to play were only available to Playstation consoles.

But seeing as how PS3 is backwards compatible and will play PS2 games, the ball was dropped by the game and console creators to force their customers to have to get new hardware in order to play hardware specific games across console upgrades....and why is that?

The drums are a USB connection, so is the microphone and Wireless guitar....except for the specific handset controller, all these items are universally standard USB connections either direct to the console or via a USB hub. There is no reason as to why they should not work. but as Sony and Microsoft would have it, they decided to squeeze the consumer.

Plus I also just heard through some of the gamer mill here at work that the XBox360 just went down in price - now lets see how this announcement will cause Sony to respond for the PS3 price. I refuse to pay more than $200 for a game console.

Here's something else I'm curious about - and I really am a Gaming n00b so I'm not really up on all teh technical stuff, but if these consoles are coming with Hard drives, which the guy in the store tells me I can transfer teh games onto and just play them off of there, then why should I buy games?

If I can store games onto the console itself, why not just rent them for Blockbuster or borrow them, transfer them and save me the money? I would imagine that there are failsafes that prevent this, and I'm never one to take the word of store workers as gospel, but in this regard, knowing as little as I do about gaming, I have no reason to not beleif gamer buffs.

Is this the case?

1. I don't think the hard drives would be able to hold more than a few games at one time.

2. That would be illegal

I've never played Guitar Hero, so feel free to ignore this.

Can't help wondering, though. Holding a bit of plastic, and strumming to recorded music. What's the difference between that, and an air-guitar ?? Though an air-guitar would save you a shedload of money, and be just as satisfying, huh ??

Depending on the size of the hard drive, you could hold a considerable amount. Most single disc games dont take up more than between 1-4GB of space. As for it being illegal, I realize that. The point being, as such, why allow for it in the first place?

Its just fun. As for the instrument component, depending on diffulty level, it can be quite realistic, especially the drums.
