Here's something else I'm curious about - and I really am a Gaming n00b so I'm not really up on all teh technical stuff, but if these consoles are coming with Hard drives, which the guy in the store tells me I can transfer teh games onto and just play them off of there, then why should I buy games?

While you can transfer an Xbox 360 game to the hard drive, you still need the disc itself in the system when you want to play a game.

If I can store games onto the console itself, why not just rent them for Blockbuster or borrow them, transfer them and save me the money? I would imagine that there are failsafes that prevent this, and I'm never one to take the word of store workers as gospel, but in this regard, knowing as little as I do about gaming, I have no reason to not beleif gamer buffs.

Is this the case?
1. I don't think the hard drives would be able to hold more than a few games at one time.

2. That would be illegal
Depending on the size of the hard drive, you could hold a considerable amount. Most single disc games dont take up more than between 1-4GB of space. As for it being illegal, I realize that. The point being, as such, why allow for it in the first place?
With the 360 it's to allow you to save game progress, music files, movies and game demos. That is the basic purpose of the hardrive, or atleast that's all I ever used it for. You get xbox live and with every achievment to make in a game, say for example killing 100 people, you recieve a gamer point. With certain amounts of points you can use them to download movies, demos etc directly onto the hardrive via xbox live.

If anyone hasn't yet played Guitar Hero and would like to try, K-Mart has World Tour for all three current systems bundled with a wireless guitar controller for $29.99 and the full band setup for $89.99. The downside is that this sale may end on 8/15 (I'm not clear on this yet).
