This is actually a simple thing for me nowadays, as I keep all important stuff on a weekly backup external drive, to which I have also placed the installs for all my major programs, as .ISO images.

Now I just wipe and reinstall windows, and then mount all my .ISO program file images as virtual drives and install from them.

What used to take days to redo I can now manage over the course of a lazy afternoon.

You cant expect 110% from others, when most times, they don't expect even 90% from themselves. -- Me.

All about the fish tacos

So it took the tech 3 and a half hours to clean the trojan off the computer. He had to first identify all occurrences of the dll in the registry and delete all line items that made reference to it. Then using a tech version of a virus tool he cleaned the corrupted dll files off the computer. There was also one virus (.exe) file that slipped in with the trojan. He said I got this sometime over last weekend. It was money well spent because this was a tricky trojan. However, I could have wiped my computer. The only real files of importance are my photos and a few documents and spreadsheets that I have backed up on a thumb drive. I'll run a backup later as well.

:o You can get a virus from Porn? I thought that only happened if you didn't use a condemn! :p

Anyway,
I only wish! Then at least it would have been worth it! :sarcastic:

I think I got it from googling images. I was looking for pictures to post in various threads over at st.com. No more pictures for me! :(

Well, what I do is use NOTEPAD to create a set of instructions to the XCOPY.exe file in windows.

I write line items to XCOPY [Each Source directory] [Each Destination Directory] [Whatever parameters I want]
save this instrucion file at a .BAT file,
Then set up a SCHEDULED TASK from the Control panel, to run that .BAT file once a week.

What's the difference between that and the system restore that windows does?

System Restore only handles Windows system files.

My back up method backs up whatever files from whatever directories I instruct to wherever I instruct it to.

I changed where my default MY DOCUMENTS folder is and my default EMAIL STORAGE folders are...D is the source drive, Y is the destination drive, and the slashes with letters are the various parameters I chose.

xcopy /s/r/c/y "D:\webpub\*.*" Y:\webpub\
xcopy /s/r/c/y "D:\Outlook_Email\*.*" Y:\Outlook_Email\
xcopy /s/r/c/y "D:\Docs\*.*" Y:\Docs\
xcopy /s/r/c/y "D:\Visual Studio Projects\*.*" Y:\Visual Studio Projects\
