Yeah ...... and then they get corrupted. I don't see him in politics for some reason. He felt so guilty about his past that he became a Shephard ............ he must have done some pretty inhumane things .............

Not that politicians don't, lol, but I think he use to kill people.

Joss Whedon has been saying for a couple years now that a canon graphic novel about Book's past will be published soon (he just got busy with Dollhouse). Supposedly it will be out this November (More info here on Serenity comic wiki). All I know about Book's secret past is that he has high clearance (evidenced by him being treated immediately by the Alliance when he was hurt) and that Darriel Book isn't is real name, it's the name of a man he killed (Whedon has said).

I knew he had killed before. Pretty sure he was an Alliance hired gun like the black dude who was after River not only in the series but in the movie.
