Pay to play games on the internets? Paying to do ANYTHING on the internets almost seems to go completely against what the internets was initially made public for |

I have, Damar. It's a fun game, but it's definitely not perfect. I would say it's worth at least checking out for any Star Trek fan, though. It is somewhat hardware intensive, but not anything insane like Crysis. As long as you have a decent gaming computer, you should be able to run it. I've stopped playing regularly over the last month or two, but my account is still active, so let me know if you wind up trying it out and I'll add you to my friend list in there. |
Once upon a time, a man lived. This man was a man who really lived. He was the best there was at what he did, living. Living is what he did, and he did it well. In fact, he did it too well. He lived so well that he made other people stop living. That is why he had to be stopped. To stop him, they sent Rimo.

It's the same creators of City of Heros/Villians, a game i used to absolutely love, and they would constantly update it, so I had high hopes for it, but the more I read, the more I am dissapointed in it. How come no one cand make a decent Star Trek game? Though Heather and I loved Conquest for awhile. |

I honestly don't get the complaints about pay to play, since that's how MMO's have always worked (or at least, the ones worth playing). I think the thing people tend to forget is that unlike with regular offline games, the company doesn't just put it out and be done with it. Instead, once the game comes out, they still have a full staff constantly working on updates, patches, class modifications, gameplay balance, bug issues, and in-game support. These people need to get paid. Granted, the fees are often pricier than they actually need to be (I don't remember the numbers, but I think WoW has something like 2 million active players. If the fee is $10 a month, that means Blizzard is making $20 million a month on subs alone. That's...possibly unnecessary), but the point remains the same that if you're committing your resources to fewer games, you have to make more money from those games that you do put out. However, on a somewhat unrelated side note, I'll say this to anybody here who is interested in trying out an MMO but is hesitant about the sub fee: Lord of the Rings Online recently scrapped the mandatory subscription fee. They still have a fee that provides some sort of additional benefits (I'm not sure exactly what the deal is, I stopped playing LOTRO a couple years ago), but the option also exists to just pick up the game and play for free. That's a good game, too, it just was too much of a WoW clone to be truly competitive on the market, so they had to start making some more drastic moves. |

When Heather and I get more finacially stable, I will probably purchase it. Crytic did a great job with monthly updates on COH/COV to keep things interesting. |

the only issue I have with pay to play is the ufront cost. The game cost $80 to buy, then on top of that you have to pay more every month. I wouldn't mind paying every month if the game cost less to buy |

Sorry - I'm totally about non recurring costs to play something I already paid to own. It should just be like Diablo and Starcraft was - you bought the game for $30 or whatever, cranked it on, and you just use the Sign on to Blizzard.net to play it online with others - Free. |
