An accent is when a person of a different language speaks a different language

A dialect is when native speakers pronounce words differently

My dialect coach beat this into our heads
:p
Yes, yet even more Q insights. How many *ahem* dialects can you do?

Most people just call it accent
And I agree it just makes more sense

I'm not very good at them
I can do a proper English (a little)
And some southern (a little)

I did a Jamaica accent once for a show

But it's not my thing

One of the most amusing aspects of the ass vs arse debate is that most British pronunciations end up sounding like ass anyway.

Do any of you ever alter your diction according to mood? There is a Jackie Chan movie where he plays a Hong Kong cop. When he gets in an argument with his commander (in Chinese) eventually the commander shouts in English, "that is an order!" So in colonies the voice of command is that of imperial rulers? Freaky. Sometimes when I get angry, my diction can get archaic. I've read olde English novels and kjv Bibles, so the words are floating around in my head. I recently got mad at my sister saying, "I shan't abide thy behavior any longer!" and she took me seriously.

All about the fish tacos

I alter my entire personality according to my mood. When I'm angry I can become down right ghetto. Words, pronunciation, diction, everything changes. I am fluent in four letter words in both English and Italian. At work, I become professional and all of a sudden I have a very astute vocabulary and people can't even imagine I know any swear words. I even change depending on whom I am having a conversation with.

I guess that's what happens when you start off poor in a relatively rough neighborhood and then become educated and work in a high end corporate environment. :dunno:

I alter everything depending on how I am feeling

When I am angry but still in control I turn into Batman. (Very little talk, low gravely voice ,looking like I'm going to kill you)

When I lose control I turn into Samuel L Jackson

They always give SL Jackson good monologues, and he is excellent at orating him.
