The More the Merrier, Av, surrounding peeps Words: 541 It was a simple enough request, and one that Teagan wasn’t unwilling to fulfill as she paired all the extra headphones with the laptop. Though, given the nature of the movie, Teagan didn’t expect that Idazon would be interested in listening, let alone watching it. Having aired her dirty laundry for all in the immediate vicinity, the usually exuberant candidate was several shades of quiet, having nothing else to say. She offered the rest of the gathered crowd more cherry licorice and a few sodas buried at the bottom of her bag before glancing up briefly at the smell of rich coffee. Her attention lingered long enough to watch the two odd dragons bond, keenly aware that Selena of all people had found a lifelong partner among those eggs upon the sands. Maybe she’d feel less sour about the beagle. If nothing else, Oreius wouldn’t be messing with her anymore. The sleeping tragendire bubbled a gruntled sensation across their bond but did not contribute further to Teagan’s assumptions. Five More Minutes, Minerva So far it seemed that the little fjord could sleep through a bomb going off. She had missed several hatchings and the bizarre velociraptor shaped one was just another such creature that she had not witnessed upon the sands. When she did rouse, it was to the cacophonous fluttering of wings, a tinkle of familiar bells, and a gentle nudge. Her ears flicked gently towards the sound of Minerva’s laughter. If the much larger centaur expected her to do much more, she was in for disappointment. “You’re late.” Braelyn stifled a yawn with a dark patterned hand. She flicked her tail against her flanks in an effort to keep herself paying attention. “I didn’t think they were going to make us actually come to the hatching. Seems a little cruel, don’t you think?” The scenery was breathtaking, yes. But all that Brae could seem to think was that it was not for them. Undeterred by the arrival of her friend, Braelyn gently tugged on Minerva’s arm until the much larger shire had settled down beside her. Having bigger friends was in many ways beneficial. They could reach taller shelves and better treats for you at the best of times. Right now however, Braelyn’s needs were simple. She desired the creature comfort of someone familiar, and also a significantly more plush pillow rather than letting herself hang her head against her chest. She was quite insistent about her comfort, and she felt she had every right to be given how long they were going to be there. “So, Minerva,” the little fjord stifled a yawn. “Do you think they’ll let us go home after the hatching?” She didn’t even comment about the prospect of whether either of them might bond. It simply didn’t feel like a possibility anymore. As she waited for the much larger centaur’s response Braelyn watched an unusual pair of foodies waddle across the hatching grounds to their respective partners. She couldn’t help but feel that the coffee scent was much appreciated, but at the same time, despite the fragrant dragon’s invitation, she couldn’t bring herself to get up from her seat, comfortable as she was. |

Livna and Heifeiver to (Open); An Unfortunate Bystander Word Count: 800 Words Will you please come do your job? You're going to make us both look like a pair of assholes. It's not my job. I didn't lay the eggs, and it's certainly not my fault that I was the quickest and most clever. It was no surprise to anyone who had met them that Livna and her dragon didn't get along. They were an oddity, a pair which appeared so poorly matched that it was a wonder neither of them had asked to be separated. Frankly, it was a wonder Heifeiver himself had not declared himself Unbonded at the first opportunity. In his mind, there was no dragon (or person) finger or more clever than himself, and he hardly bothered with niceties unless speaking to a lady. That courtesy did not, evidently, extend to Livna, who had spent most of her time keeping Heifeiver's mate company while her dragon decided to do other things with his time. Asshole. She'd counted on the fact that he'd be present at least on this day, of all days. Heifeiver was, after all, strictly of the opinion that whichever dragon he hatched would be the most excellent dragon to grace these Sands today. He was content to pass judgement after the wyrmling hatched, however. He didn't see any sense in wasting his time brooding over an egg. How boring. You could at least make an appearance, Livna continued to press her dragon, irritated by this thoughtlessness. It wasn't as if his mate needed Heifeiver there (and Livna couldn't blame her if she didn't even want him there), but the gesture would have been thoughtful. Heifeiver evidently wasn't concerned with being thoughtful, however. He was concerned with prowling along the outer rim of the Sands, searching for Hatchlings as they emerged. He judged them by his own standards, of course. Misuto? A show off. Pretty. Proxy and Torrent? Loud and obnoxious. Bolero? Also a show off. Still pretty. Nyanabrache? Squishy. He stopped paying attention after that, his mind set to other matters. He was mostly interested in prowling around the outskirts closest to Manetlla's nest where he could keep an eye on what his eggs were doing. He was in the process of doing just this when he heard a voice call out, excitedly: "There's another hatchling, here! Look!" A couple of cameras turned briefly to Heifeiver before they quickly seemed to realize their mistake. That didn't stop him from flashing momentarily on the large screen, however, and the dragon stopped in his tracks, horrified. Mortified. Hatchling?! He swung his head around to stare the man dead in the eye. Fury coursed through his tiny body like electricity so that he practically trembled with it, snot dripping down from his nose in an endless torrent. He hissed, wings shivering in a threatening display. He thought it was a threatening display, at least. He padded closer, head snaked aggressively. The man stuttered out an apology, but Heifiever wasn't interested in hearing it-- Or watching the attendants who were hurrying close to their location to try and salvage the situation. What did you just say to me, little man? He snarled. I'll have you know I graduated top of my class. I've been involved in numerous secret plots and I have killed before, and will kill again. You are nothing to me but another target. I will wipe you out, the precision of which has never been seen before on this planet, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me, here, at my hatching ceremony? Think again. He stepped closer, his voice becoming louder and more shrill the more he went on. As we speak, I am thinking of one-hundred different ways to destroy you. You better be prepared for the storm, maggot! He screamed, wings outstretched. His puffs seemed to explode off of him in his rage, whirling and cutting through the air like sickles, the skin stripped from his face. He was truly a horror now, face a skull like mask as he continued his rant, taking in the screams of the frightened bystanders with absolutely glee. Stop! Livna begged him. In his mind's eye, he could see her sprinting across the Sands to try to stop him. Not today. He would not be stopped! The storm that wipes out the pathetic thing called your life! You're dead! I-- Ah! Heifeiver's tantrum was stopped abruptly as something hot and excruciating bit him in the flank. His slim body shuddered all over as the electricity coursed through him, and he collapsed on the sand gasping for breath, body twitching uncontrollably, mouth full of sand. "You tasered him?" He could hear Livna's outraged cry as she confronted those responsible. "I can't believe this! Let me through and I'll stop him!" |

The Big Day!! Tag: Nox Selena had been busy socializing when the coffee dragon showed up. She rubbed her nose a bit at the smell and smiled when she saw it bonded to the candidate beside her ”That’s awesome, Nox! Congratulations!” sure she was excited for him, Nox was one of the few people that seemed to be her friend these days even if they just met...at least he was nice. The Coffee dragon was impressive and everything but Selena’s attention was soon drawn away from Nox’s partner. She hadn’t expected to bond that day. At first, Selena expected to have to dodge out of the way as the big ole chubby dragon came towards her and Nox. She half wondered if she was heading to one of the people behind her. When she say down in front of her though she blinked a bit. "I see the party started without me! Oh, Selena, you're here! Did you meet my friend Baristra? Has great ideas for recipes, I've been dying to try some of her stuff. Oh gosh, look at me prattling on! My name is Taika, ready to get cookin' with ye, good lookin!" Taika said as Selena blinked. Selena was in shock but when the curious dragon nudged the crystal that had now formed on Selena’s chest the blonde wrapped her arms around the dragon’s muzzle and honestly felt like cry. “Oh no, Don’t do that, sweetheart.” She heard Taika said as Selena shook her head a bit and let go of her partner. “But, you picked me.” Selena said “Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?” She asked as her dragon laughed and nudged Selena gently again “A mistake!? Dear, I don’t make those...only happy accidents.” She winked at Selena who laughed a bit and hugged her dragon again. Selena nodded her head and leaned back from her dragon “Well, I have to warn you. I’m not the best cook in the world...but I make a mean omelet.” She smiled “I’m ready to work alongside you.” The Dragon grinned a bit “Oh, darling we will get you cooking like a pro in no time and make you the best chef this academy has ever seen! Don’t worry, you’ve got me now, I’ll take care of you.” I’m Not Late, You’re Early. Tag: Braelyn ”I’m not late, everyone else was early.” Minerva teased as she wrapped an arm around Braelyns shoulder to comfort her friend. She didn’t like to see her upset, it cut deep and Minerva knew that it was the unfairness of this whole event that cause her Braelyn so much pain. If Minerva was a meaner individual she would say something out loud about the travesty of things. ”We still have to appear diplomatic I suppose.” she paused ”But I agree, there is no real reason for us to be at this hatching event if we are not bonding.” She rubbed Braelyn’s back True fact though? Minerva was the best pillow, she had just the right amount of muscle and fat to make for a pillow that was not too soft and not too hard. She was more than happy to provide any comfort she could for Braelyn. She even shifted a bit so her Fjord could rest a little easier on her. ”If you want to go home, I will not allow them to stop you.” She stated with a firm sort of finality. It was true, no human could stop her, she was stronger than most and when she got moving her fastest she could blow through most humans with ease. ”We were here to try and bond, to cement an alliance between our peoples...seems like that alliance might have been a mistake.” Much like Braelyn she was sore and began to doubt the intentions of Aesulla, she began to doubt even her own leaders...it seemed they had been tricked into this. She rubbed Braelyns shoulder and smiled a bit ”At least we have each other.” she said held her a bit tighter for a second or two before relaxing her grip. Word Count: 730 |

Five More Minutes, also Caffiene @Minerva, @Nox “I think one way or another, we go back to Etharius.” Braelyn shrugged as she nestled into her companion. No sense in doing lessons again if not selected. I would really rather have not had our entire race called out on national television in regards to the situation with the eggs.” The little fjord huffed. Conversation kept her awake, as unfortunate as the reality was. With the wheels in her mind turning over all of the matters that had upset her, it was a wonder she had dozed off again in the first place. “I can understand that it wasn’t on purpose, but the delivery could have been significantly better.” It was hard being upset all the time, and with the fog of sleep lifted by Minerva’s company, the scent of chocolate oranges and coffee was enough to make Braelyn’s stomach groan in distaste for its empty state. With a small sigh she got up from her set on the floor and smoothed out her caparison to at least look reasonably presentable. “I shouldn’t be such a sourpuss.” She admitted before carefully maneuvering through the crowd to where the delightfully fragrant new hatching had set up a table and snack trays. She turned to the elf she had bonded to and bowed her head politely. “Congratulations on your bond. I do hope you’re well met.” she offered them a smile before looking instead towards Baristra. “I couldn’t help by notice your delightful fragrance. May I trouble you for a cup of coffee?” |

AND THEN THERE WAS COFFEE - 615 Tags - Selena and anyone who'd like a snack ![]() Nox's eyes darted all over the sands as more dragons hatched. He even spotted Ahm making his appearance. The elf looked at his roommate a little confused...He was still in hospital clothes? Why was that? That was going to be something he'll have to ask the centaur prince later. If Nox even dared to do so... Ahm seemed fine right now with his friends. It left a small pang in the elf's heart but Nox ignored it. Princes keep much more important company than common folk like himself. "In all honestly i have no idea. I mean even if we don't there is always next year to try." His attention was diverted back to Selena. He offered her a wry smile. Not even a few moments after the words left his mouth another few eggs hatched. The bird one made a rather spectacular entrance into the world but before Nox can make a comment on it another egg hatched almost at the same time. Another unique hatchling, one that was offering something to some of the other dragons before making a bee line straight to where he and Selena where sitting. "Selena, look this one is coming right at us!" He nudged her excitedly, his black eyes going wide at the thought. The orange and chocolate dragon stopped right before them and nuzzled HIM of all people. She spoke to him and then, just like that the bond settled in place, like she always belonged there nestled in the back of his mind as a bright happy presence. "Wow...Oh wow. Yeah, yes coffee sounds really great!" A laugh bubbled out from the elf and he hugged her snout. She smelt good and her scales where so soft. "Dear Nox drink up, I made that just for you." Baristra chuffed at the overwhelmed elf's chest and chuckled. Carefully she snaked her tail forward. Nox found his hands suddenly held a hot mug of something coffee and sweet. With a small flourish with her tail Baristra topped it with whipped cream. She seemed to love putting a little show with her drink making. Nox gaped in wonder at the sight, again the dragon laughed. "Silly Nox, you're supposed to drink it not stare!" He took a sip, sweet toffee, caramel goodness exploded over his tastebuds. "OOoooh, this amazing! How?" A comforting pool of warmth spread from his belly to the rest of his body. "Don't worry about the particulars just yet! I will show you everything in due time." She laughed, delighted that her newly bonded is enjoying himself. "Oh Taika! There you are! And hello to you Selena." She turned her head towards Selena and Taika after they had their moment. "Ready to show the world what we got Taika?" The orange and coffee dragon was all smiles and cheer as she and her newly bonded shared more glasses and treats. "Looks like we don't have to wait till next year." Grinning, Nox put a mug of something hot, chocolaty and full of caffeine in Selena's hands, courtesy of Baristra. "Congrats to you Selena and Taika." He noticed out the corner of his eye that some of the centaurs are approaching. "Oh oh, thank you!" He blinked, she is so...tiny he noted. Nox has seen all the centaurs before, his roommate IS one, but not this one so close. He din't realize she really was that small. "Why thank you and of course! Would you like anything special to add to it? Chocolate? Something fruity perhaps? Razzberry is very good with coffee. I can even do peppermint!" Baristra excitedly touched her cheeks with her forpaws as she sat her haunches down. This centaur is to adorable! |

Vee Tag: Aloran (Word Count: 576) Elissaveta sat back up on her knees and stared at the centaur, her expression blank for a moment. It took her a moment to assess the situation, what Aloran had said sinking in slowly. He had offered to allow her to lean against him in order to rest a bit more comfortably. Okay, a lot more comfortably. However, she knew what a a big step that was for, well, anyone, and it wasn't something that she was going to just wave off. However, she was also going to make sure that he was really okay with that, as opposed to just saying something to be polite. She opened her mouth to ask just that, but he stopped her before she could get a word out, assuring her that it was all right and that he preferred it to her sleeping on her camera bag. "Well, if you're certain," she said lightly, blushing lightly. She wasn't exactly sure why she was flushed, though she knew it wasn't from embarrassment. She supposed it was due to not having had anyone, friend or otherwise, offer her something so personal, and she wasn't quite sure how to respond to it. She wasn't offended or insulted; far from it. She was very flattered, but she didn't want to seem so. It wasn't pride, but more of the need to not seem overly zealous for the opportunity. She settled gently against him, resting her back against his side. Predictably, he was quite warm and due to this, she refused his offer of calling an assistant over for a blanket. She pulled her bag between her knees, which were pulled up to her chest and sat there silently for a moment. He had been correct; He was far more comfortable than her bag had been and there was less of a chance that she would destroy her beloved equipment. She made sure her camera was securely in her lap and turned slightly to thank him for his offer, but was distracted by the hatching of not one hatchling, who appeared to be... serving coffee?, but two, this second one having some amazing coloring. She snapped the obligatory impression pictures before turning her attention back to her companion. "I thank you again," she told him politely, her smile taking the stiff formality out of the statement. She shifted slightly to get a bit more comfortable, but was caught off-guard by a commotion happening down around the rim of the sands. It looked as though a dragon was being... attacked? Though the screaming she'd heard coming from him would cause her to lean more towards him being contained, not attacked. She arched a brow in that direction, then looked up at Aloran. "Well then. Let us hope that if either of us do bond today, we don't get one from that gene pool, eh?" It was at that point that she turned back to resting on the centaur, letting herself lean a bit more against him and relax. On the one hand, she didn't know if she wanted to pull her eyes away from the hatchlings or the dragon that appeared to have been tasered. But on the other, she felt that since her friend had offered up himself as a place to rest, she should, well.... rest. And he was so very warm and rather comfortable.... She didn't fight it as her eyes slowly closed, her grip on her camera loosening a bit. |

Flock Tag: Selena/Taika Word Count: 509 After her struggles against her egg Flock was immensely hungry, one large stomach or a thousand small ones it made no difference, all felt empty. And so she made her way over to where a few other wyrmlings were feasting with their riders to hungry to take notice of them just yet, food first then socialization. As she approached and looked over the selections offered to her she could not decide what she wanted to eat. " [size0]Granola... Smoothie... Sushi! [size0]Pizza... Steak." Dozens of voices swirled through the air each voicing a different meal when suddenly a scent wafted towards her smelling delicious. Looking back to the sands she noticed a culinary coffee dragon distributing drinks to various dragons before finding her bonded. Though she was sure the drinks created by Baristra were amazing she was more hungry than thirsty and did not feel tired enough to want a pick me up and besides the scent that had grabbed her attention was not coming from her though it was another that just hatched, a fiery purple hatchling that seemed to be another Culinary. She smelled of barbecue and as the scent became stronger she became more hungry. Flock fidgeted her wings while she waited for the dragon to find her bonded and become situated before taking off to meet them. It would be impolite to accost them in their moment of bonding. Though Flock desired no such thing for herself she understood to others it was incredibly important and she would not be so rude as to ignore such a thing. From where she stood she seemed to dissolve into a hundred Magpies and flew around, for a moment seeming to forget where she was headed, becoming lost in the euphoria of flight. Perhaps she was even savoring a moment with her mother, a presence Flock could feel was everywhere in the Hatchery. She had the sudden urge to fly as high into the sky as she could but the storm outside and prolonged darkness made her think that might not be as fun as would be imagined. Besides hunger tugged at her stomachs and so a single bird with a crystal upon its chest could be seen turning toward the two Culinary dragons. As the cloud of birds neared the ground Flock suddenly appeared lightly landing and fidgeting her wings into place beside her body. "I am Flock! It is a pleasure to meet you! You smell amazing by the way." The air around them seemed to stir slightly as Flock took a deep breath and then cocked her head to the side, wings fidgeting. "Can you cook something? I'm so hungry. [size0]Very hungry... Starving!" She wasn't sure if the Culinary/Fire would need a kitchen or could make things right there like her counterpart Baristra but she hopped the former would prove to be true as Flock was completely sure she desired something made by Taika over the human and elf chefs. |

Katci (Fire/Sound Tragendire) Tag: Genzai, Mesikammen Word Count: 528 As she was led to the Hatchery overlook where the other Tragendires were the normally calm ripples of light that flowed across her body were still chaotic and agitated, feeling the emotions coming from her rider and Callisto after Ahmduer had been so suddenly taken and in such a manner. She tried her best to send calming sounds to Azarahl but it was much less effective not being with her and so when Azarahl smacked the Titan on the back of his head she could only hope it did not escalate further than that. It was like her Aza to not care who she was up against if it was something to do with her brother, apparently even a Titan was not enough to deter her from speaking her mind. Well he deserved it Katci decided. It did not matter if Ahmduer had been asked to be taken to the hatching the Titan had met him before and should knew he was bonded to Calisto and that his sister was likely with him in the hospital after he himself put him there even if he did not mean to. He could at least show the decency to know Ahmduer! She sat down in a huff her normally calming chiming noises sounding tumultuous her ripples of light becoming even more disorganized. Well she was sure it would all work out! She had no doubt that Ahmduer would become healthy again and Aza would stop blaming herself so hard for something that wasn't her fault. Katci was always one to point out the positives and tried her best to make sure her bonded saw the good things that were happening instead of focusing so much on the bad and taking responsibility for things she had no control over. This was why Katci bonded to her. Aza needed someone to keep her calm and help her through her guilt. And with that a happy chiming noise emanated from the Trag along with a cozy warmth as the patterns on her fur settled back down she stood back up from her haunches and approached her littermates. "Genzai! Mesikammen! Have yours' bonded to a dragon? We just got here so I bet we missed a lot. The sky looks cool! I've never seen stars so bright and close like that. It's still very dark outside, shouldn't the sun be coming up soon?" She smacked her front paws on the ground in a playful bow, ripples of light dancing up from them soft chimes sounding whenever they encountered another ripple and wagged her tail in greeting. Aza's own ambivalence on bonding left Katci unsure of whether she wanted her to bond or not. It could help the centaur have more purpose to her life but if she bonded and Ahmduer did not... It would become very stressful for Aza. Maybe they would both bond. Ahmduer would be happy and that would make Aza happy. But how would Aza feel if Ahmduer bonded but she did not? Whatever happened Katci would make sure they were both happy! It would all work out in the end. |

A sticky situation 5:10AM It had been about fifteen minutes since the two Culinary dragons had hatched, in that time people had flocked around them, many whom had never seen or heard of their kind before. They weren't rare per-se, but outside of Aesulla they were a lot more uncommon, for one reason or another. Perhaps it was that they preferred the bustling life of the cities. It wasn't as if they didn't also live in other capital cities, either, though. Except perhaps in Nondir, where they made themselves scarce. Across the sands, tucked somewhat out of sight in the garden area of the grounds was a decently aged dragon. She wasn't old, but compared to a lot of dragons, she seemed it. She had been alive for almost five hundred years, a decent number in her opinion. This dragon had, through some means or another, chosen perhaps the most insufferable dragon to win her flight. It had been held at the tail end of the season, so there hadn't been many to show up. For the Patient and Kind dragon, continuing to hold herself above violence and anger was not too hard, though Heifeiver did try her patience. As far as she was concerned, this was a test and she would persevere. Her flight had been a race- the first one to take the token at the end of the finish-line would win, and Heifeiver, being who he was, had won through devious means- but he had won. Each dragon had started on the track, the starting line not so far from the finish- one just had to go the full circuit to reach the finish. Heifeiver had, however, simply turned around and gone the other way, taking the token in a matter of seconds. The other males had voiced their complaint, but the female, who had not, in all honesty, specified that they had to run or fly the whole course, just that they had to reach the finish line and collect the item first. She tried to explain it in such a way that it painted the diminutive dragon as clever, and less of a cheater than everyone knew he was. He had taken a path of least resistance, and according to her own rules, it would be against her character to deny him his win. Perhaps some good would come of it. The dragon reflected on these things while she looked at the tangled thorn bramble that had encased her tiny egg. Hei had hardly been here to help care for the egg of his own element, and she had done all she could to care for it. He was lucky half of her elements were similar enough to his, sort of. Where florals dealt with flowers and small plants, forests were more tree-like, and the egg, despite being a floral egg, had grown treelike substances that were larger than its own egg. With Hei not around much, except to gloat from time to time when candidates came in to offer care to eggs, the egg had taken little essence from its father. Its mind took most everything it could gather, elementally, knowledge, language, and life from its mother. In a way, this pleased her. It was then, while she was lost in thought, that she heard the egg starting to crack. She tilted her head to glance at Heifeiver, whom had been tasered not long ago and dragged back to the nest. He was probably fuming. Judging by the charred dandelion puffs and the only partially regrown face-scales, he was not in a good mood. “Hei,...” she started to say, getting his attention. “The egg is starting to hatch, perhaps that will make you feel better? she offered, the gentle, calm and ever patient tone rang clear and unhurriedly from her voice. The little egg struggled, sharp thorns appeared along its surface, little claws scrabbling at the shell. The dragon inside weighed so little, along with its lack of proper claws, meant now it was relying on sticks, branches and thorns to carefully, systematically, and..softly...go about opening its egg. Mother had worked so hard on it, the dragon thought. It wouldn't be nice to ruin it! So he didn't. Much, anyway. He had to come out, after all! Eventually, he managed to make a full ring around just the tippy top of the egg, exactly enough for him to get through. Once out of this, he ended up in the thicket of the outer extra 'shell' of the egg. He had his work cut out for him! His parents, by then, might have realized they had trouble actually seeing the dragon, at least while he was next to or on the branches. It was only after he had torn his leafy wings to pieces, and lost a lot of his stick-like growths along his body that he had managed, at last, to fling himself to the leafy nest. He laid there, breathing, resting, a tiny thing hardly three feet long, and only inches thick. He was anything but impressive. He was not The Best. He was not something Hei would find worth in or a creature worth having pride for. He was too thin, too tiny, his body so frail it had broken itself to pieces while hatching, soft glowing amber leaking from the largest breaks. Against the adult florals grumbling and scathing words to let it fend for itself, the mother dragon lifted him up and nuzzled him, breathing some healing mist over his body, and giving him a little forest-element energy to help regrow what was lost. He was jubilant, his tiny voice squeaking in joy. "Hello, mother! Oh, you're so pretty! Thank you for helping me grow. My name is Twig! It's a good name for me, right?" he said, excitement in his tone. A moment later, he flapped his easily shredded little wings and flew out of her hands (But not before hugging and nuzzling the end of her comparatively giant muzzle). He landed on Heifeiver, then, and hugged his father's muzzle, only to be flicked off, a biting retort at the hatchling. Twig sat there, in the leaves and grass, looking up at his father. What had he done wrong? His bottom jaw quivered and his eyes started to shimmer oddly, his tiny extra pair of arms wringing around themselves as he quite suddenly started to cry. "Don't you love me?" he said, his voice trembling and hurt. Ge got up and scampered over, holding onto Hei's front leg, whimpering. "Are you upset because you're hurting? I can help you..." he offered, before jabbing his little tail needle between two scales of Hei's leg. It didn't even sting. The healing salve in him worked its way through the adult dragon- it wasn't strong enough to cure him of his recent tasering, but it did take the edge off the sting. Some of his dandelion puffs even grew in and the last few scales grew back on his face. "See! I can help!" he said, through sappy amber tears which dripped off and hardened on the ground. After a couple minutes sitting there, listening to whatever the pissy dragon either did or didn't have to say, the dragon stopped crying and instead began to radiate an aura of Good Feelings. "Cheer up daddy! I'll make you proud, just watch!" he said, before running off across the sands. He was so tiny, and looked so much like a stick with legs. His conflicted father probably didn't think he'd last a week in the world. Meanwhile, at the nest of the lone Time dragon, Chrono, the icy egg was starting to crack, quite strongly too. Whiffling noises could be heard, as well as pawwing and scratching at the egg, a hole breaking open and a dark, wet nose stuck itself out. Sniff, sniff. After this, paws gripped the rim of the egg and lines of frost began to form on the shell, a whirling ice cloud issuing from the hole in the top until, eventually, it broke apart, icy shards splintering around the now free sticky and wet, moderately unhappy looking dragon. It stood up, drenched in a fluid that was literally below freezing but not frozen and shook itself VIGOROUSLY, sending this icy mess around himself. He didn't really care, or think about that though. After a few moments, he decided to increase the freeze, and froze ice over himself, and then shook again, this time, sheets of icy material slid off of him and his fluffy coat puffed up as if it had been hair-dried. The contents of the egg were...well. It was a dog, plain and simple. A winged dog, perhaps, but a dog. There was no way around this observation. From its nose to its long plumed tail, the mixed breed dog-dragon was still very handsom to look at. He was also a good boy, yes he was. His tail started wagging as he looked around, spotting his mother and her rider. His tail thumped harder and he wiggled, a happy puppy, tongue lolling out of his mouth before he abruptly stopped all doggy behavior, as if the Dragon inside himself had chastised him. Not a dog, no! Bad! He was a Dragon! His eyes caught movement on the sand and he twisted, eyes locking on the thing. It was a stick. And it was moving. Before logic and thought could really connect in the dog's overexcited brain, he was off, chasing the stick. And oh, how it ran! It ran and ran, around and around! It squeaked and yelped and made all kinds of interesting noises! "DO NOT CHASE TWIG! TWIG IS NOT STICK TO BE CHEWTOY!" it cried. This would have gone on much longer and probably ended disastrously ( and perhaps there was a time where fate had not intervened and it had gone wrong ) had the blue earth-lightning Titan not whistled at the dog, making him pause and look over, ears forward and pointed at attention. Get the ball, it said! BALL! BALL! THERE WAS A BALL. IT HAD BEEN THROWN THAT WAY. There was no ball. The dragon didn't seem to notice this as he ran off, away from Twig, who flopped on the sand to catch his squeaky breath. The dog had other plans, though, and was chasing the notorious invisible ball- Right into the line of candidates. When it saw them, it stopped, paced back and forth and whined, rearing back on hind paws to look over them. Where was the ball? It whimpered, voice edging in high pitched whines as it walked back and forth. He stuck his head under and around even bonded dragons and people looking for it, even stopping and giving the group watching a movie a hard stare, looking at the headphones as if trying to be sure they were 100% not withholding the ball. "Ball?" he asked, his sloped borzoi-saluki face poked over the computer before it heard some awful sounds of a canine being murdered in the movie- which he heard through someones not entirely sealed headphones. This sent the dragon scurrying away, tail practically between his legs...Though this didn't stop him from being distracted by A CAT!. He couldn't help twisting around to bark loudly at Annae. CLEARLY SHE WAS UP TO SOMETHING. Cat's were always up to something! After assuming he won, he trotted off once again, passing Mistoffelees on his way, unable to keep from nipping the other feline dragon on the tail, which made him make a very undignified YOWL, and shadow-poofed away over to Maksim's general area, sort of hiding behind the new rider and dragon, holding his tail tip and rubbing it annoyedly. dogs. he hissed. While this was going on, Ahmduer was sneaking away from Thalron and Aza, one of whom was upset at the other over things. Ahm hadn't known she was there, and had forgotten to tell Thal to get Callisto too..That was his fault, but Aza was yelling and blaming Thal. She'd gotten such a temper this year. He frowned, and started to walk off, he wanted to see his friends, not get stuck in the middle of a fight when he was supposed to be having fun. His walk was wobbly, but he made his way over to where Nox and his new dragon were hanging out He waved and called out a hello, stooping to pick up a large orange that had slid off one of the tables or perhaps had dropped off of Baristra. He looked at it and tossed it carefully from hand to hand. It was this that the icy fluff dragon saw. "BALL!" he said again. Ahmduer hardly had time to register that there was a dragon charging at him before the fuzz monster had tackled him, the orange snatched in his jaws as he laid like a big pupper on the little Centaur prince, who had been very easy to knock over. He decided this ball tasted like an orange and chewed it, before swallowing it, skin and all. He then wiggled and shoved his face into the soft chest-fur of the Centaur and rumbled hapilly. "Ahmduer! I'm so happy to see you! I didn't sense you here and I got sad. Nothing will ever go wrong again now that your Tōketsu is here!" Ahmduer had the wind knocked out of him, but he felt the bond as it happened, a crystal icy white and blue forming on his chest. Toki, he said, coughing a little. ”You gotta get down, I can't breathe!” As if horrified, the do-Dragon got up and nosed his bonded, whiffling. "Oh, no! I'm so sorry, did I hurt you?" he whined. Ahm was too happy to complain, though, and just patted the dragon on the head. No, it's okay. You're good. and there was elation in the dog, for he was a good boy. "I'm in the same boat. I'm so tiny, I can't find who I was looking for. But I bet a dragon will look for you!" Twig said, puffing up his tattered leaves happily. "Twig can be your friend, though. I like everyone, I'm bonded to everyone here, I bet!" he decided, as his crystal formed on his back, between his shoulder blades. An odd case, really. He'd gotten a crystal like an unbonded dragon, and was quite happy to not go looking much harder for his person, whom he was positive wasn't down here. He was much too small and too tired to go looking. "Here, I made this for you! And one for your friends too!" Wind whipped around the egg in little twisters as it fought the hard shell. Eventually, it used the wind to spin the egg around, while it dug its long, wickedly sharp talons into the calcium of its shiny egg, effectively slicing it to ribbons as it cracked apart, but also sent the hatchling flying into the air, where it had to learn how to fly very quickly or else plummet to its death. This seemed to be something Air dragons did pretty often, really. Most ended up launching themselves one way or another. Its wings whipped out and it flapped them, trying to find the right rhythm. Eventually it found it, just before it would have slammed face first into the sand, pulling up spectacularly, its trailing ribbon-like feathers flaring as it found its wings. From up high, it could see clearly who it longed for, a soul it had wanted to meet closer since the Touching, where this person had not gotten around to it. But that was okay. Now it got to meet in person! It soared down, confident now in its skills, and flew low over the sand, wheeling up and dropping in a perfect landing right in front of Rurik, his four wings folding neatly, long thin neck arching up as he watched the boy intently, hawklike, his crest rising and falling. This was a momentous occasion. He was not going to ruin it! Their bond would be the greatest and everyone would see and know they were each other's. So many dragons did not seem to plan their crystals, but he did. He reached out with his beaked face and gently touched the boy on the forehead with his own, gently head-bonking him with affection, and there, between them, a crystal formed. He chuffed with soft birdlike noises. "Rurik! There you are! I have been looking forward to meeting you. We're going to make the best team, you and I! There will be legends of Rurik and Skadesas!" Wyrmling Floral Twig Tag: Any (and most) unbonded candidates, Selena & Taika, Nox & Baristra Once Toketsu had moved on to find his bonded, the little floral breathed a bit easier, even if it was still labored. It had more to do with the sprint away from the potential jaws of death than anything else. Now. He looked around him and saw that he was near a tangle of the unbonded candidates. Marcus was the one he was closest to and it was he who Twig picked out to address first while he rested. "Are you worried a dragon won't hatch for you? I'm in the same boat. I'm so tiny, I can't find who I was looking for. But I bet a dragon will look for you! Twig can be your friend, though. I like everyone, I'm bonded to everyone here, I bet! Here, I made this for you! And one for your friends too!" He handed over the handmade amber and wood crystals, beaming as well as a stick dragon could. One may even say he was proud of himself, if they didn't know him well enough to know that he was just happy to share some happiness and himself with any and everyone. Once rested, he pulled himself to his feet and wandered his way through the candidates. He could feel the nervousness, anticipation, and from some, fear, that was running rampant through those waiting out the hatching. He wasn't looking for his mate any longer, as he was convinced that they weren't here, but he couldn't just leave all these candidates heavy-hearted. Instead, he moved through the waiting candidates, handing more crystals to some, while others who seemed more nature-inclined, he gave pieces of himself. A leaf here, a stick there. All the while, he positively radiated happy, good feelings. He made his way from the candidates and over to the coffee, making sure to keep off Toketsu's radar. Oh, it smelled delicious over this way! There was quite the set-up over here, with two dragons preparing food and coffee for everyone. The atmosphere over here was also a good deal more upbeat that around the unbonded, which made him feel a bit more relaxed. He tried to poke his head above the table to be seen, but being so small, he instead poked it under. "Hello friends! Twig is very hungry and your lovely creations smell wonderful! A coffee, please!" He squeaked, growing louder with happiness and the thought of that deliciousness. As a token of payment and good will, he offered both culinary dragons and their new riders a crystal each. |

Hatchling
|
Weather/Ice Venria Tag: No one Word Count: 665 Venria had been awake when the hatching started, having been unlucky enough to be selected for the night shift. Thankfully, at least, the mother of the egg she was tending was fast asleep, meaning that the Ice would have more freedom in exactly what she did. The ice egg was moved some distance away from the mother and the other eggs in the nest, so as to not harm them with the cold, and Venria curled herself around it, ensuring it remained cold by lowering her own temperature far below freezing. Snowflakes fell slowly and gently around both the ice dragon and her temporary charge, in small enough amounts to easily melt once Venria moved away. As much as she would vehemently deny it, should anyone find out, Venria almost thought of these eggs as hers, sometimes. She was eager to see what exactly would hatch from them, and had even dreamed about might some of her favorite eggs might end up being. Being around so many eggs and mothers for so long during this hatching season, Venria had started to dream of flying next season and being a mother herself. So focused on the egg was she, that the sound of the Titans beginning to sing annoyed her more than anything. However, that annoyance soon slipped away and became awe, moreso when the light shifted and she first glanced the magnificent sky above. Venria drew a sharp breath, taking in the sight, eyes tracing the swirling galaxies and stars. For perhaps one of the first times in her life, with the seraphs far above and the sound of the titans echoing through the hatchery, Venria felt small. Although it had not been blatantly stated yet, there was no doubt that the hatching was imminent. There could be no other reason for such a shift. And sure enough, the first wyrmling made her way to the one she chose, a magnificent creature that hatched silently and walked shrouded in mists. Perhaps she was pretty, Venria thought with some amount of bitterness, but nothing in her mind could compare to her own beauty. The Sonic twins were irritating more than anything, and Venria found herself praying that the tech music would stop. The Ice couldn't deny that she was impressed by the Fire/Sound's performance, but at the same time, there was some amount of envy. What a show-off, Venria thought, flexing her mismatched claws in and out, away from the egg she was caring for. If it really must pick one of those little twits, can't it refrain from disturbing anyone in the process? At one point, a human hatching attendant had come to talk to her, and politely suggest that perhaps she should abandon her duties and sleep. Venria had refused- it was early in the morning, and well-known that the hatching could last for hours. It would be a tragedy if this egg were to hatch late in the evening and die because no one had been there to tend it. That was her reasoning, at least. There was a better view of some of the events from this elevated nest that the egg's mother had chosen, and besides, the stands proper were much too crowded for Venria's liking. She observed the rest of the hatching with little interest. The spawn of that huge, ugly water dragon was not nearly as frightening as its mother. The dragon that had hatched as a flock of birds was strange, and like so many others, somewhat annoying. Was that pink dragon...? The horns were unmistakable, it had to be Illirian's daughter. Apparently the Death Titan is a bit of a slut, Venria decided, glancing back at the nest of Ciosa and Terminus, then to Yggdrasil's. Who would've guessed? She had similarly pleasant thoughts about the rest of the dragons. The dog-like ice was, in Venria's mind, a disgrace to all ice element dragons, anywhere, and the walking stick that he chased was similarly unimpressive. What disappointments. |

Coffee! @Minerva, @Nox Words: 527 Braelyn danced nervously on her hooves as she was addressed. She felt silly butting in so soon after the two pair’s very recent bonds. She bobbed her head slightly towards Nox. “You’re welcome.” and of course she meant it. At Baristra’s inquiry she clasped her hands together briefly before crossing her arms in thought. “If you could, I would quite like a cup of hazelnut coffee, lots of cream of whatever non-dairy variety you might have that isn’t soy.” Braelyn almost felt bad as she made her request. “If I could please have two cups, that would be wonderful.” She pointed back towards where Minerva was still sitting. “That way I can take one back to my friend.” Morgan and Aurinko, watching with friends Neither of the Lomiran guards had expected an invitation to watch the hatching from the grounds themselves, and yet, here they were comfortably perched on Glos’ squish to watch the event. Perhaps it would have been to find a seat in the sands, but truth be told, Morgan was more than convinced that the rest of the Lomiran guard would prefer they stay well out of the way. It was a conversation that they could have after the proceedings of the hatching however, and Morgan was in no rush. From the sounds of Aurinko’s smacking, neither was he. The gryphon had brought with him an entire basket of fish and was happily eating sardines like potato chips as he watched the events unfold below. “Do you think the Prince will bond this go around?” Aurinko garbled between bites. “Most likely.” Morgan stretched her wings before before setting the tip of her tail aglow with light. The entire hatchery was dark and it simply didn’t settle well with the shapeshifter to be so poorly lit. “It would be strange if he walked out of here a second time without a companion.” Though, it would be considerably better if he walked at all, considering the events of his last hatching. Already, Zemal’s friend seemed to have found a match. It was well made if the music was anything to go by. Their present train of thought was pulled away by the hatching of Ostoglos’ remaining egg. The colorful squirming thing was certainly a surprise in comparison to it’s-her-mother, and neither Morgan nor Aurinko could place any resemblance to her seldom seen father. As the youngster meandered off towards the candidates to make her match, Morgan gave a soft pat to Glos’ hide. “She’s very cute, and extra plush. Congratulations.” Aurinko, for his part, gave muffled agreement before scarfing down more fish while his bonded watched several more eggs hatch. It was not until the life egg bloomed that Morgan spoke up again, shaking Aurinko’s shoulder gently. “Look, there. Ygg was hiding two hatchlings.” She mused. “I wonder if they plan to make up for Zemal’s first hatching, do you think he might bond to both?” “I hope so,” The gryphon chuffed as he rubbed fish from the end of his beak. “Then they really wouldn’t need us to tag along with his Highness.” He was hopeful, not derisive. |

Marcus; tag Teagan (566 words) Marcus returned the favor and listened in silence as Teagan had to his own tale, still periodically scanning the hatching grounds to make sure nothing was going amiss. So far the hatching itself was proving to be much less dangerous than the touching had been, though he hadn't forgotten about the massive Seraph egg yet looming overhead. Teagan's story was not far off from what he'd been expecting, though he was surprised that she apparently trusted him enough to be completely and bluntly open about it. Theft and murder were a way of life in Nondir, with prostitution generally not far behind either one. That Teagan had endured all three wasn't a shock, but it was still appaling at the human level. When she finished he remained silent for a short time, mulling over what she'd said and her apparent resignation to still being just a one-way ticket for Rurik to get out of Nondir. More dragons hatched, more people bonded, Yggdrasil revealed that she had three eggs instead of two, and judging from the way certain people were studying two of the recently hatched wyrmlings a new or at least not well studied breed had just graced the sands. And then came Twig. At first Marcus thought that it was just a piece of debris that had come loose from the bramble covered egg across the way and was tumbling across the sands in an errant breeze. Except there was no breeze and that dog-dragon should have absolutely caught it by now. When he heard the first strained squeakings of a voice Marcus jumped to his feet, ready to intervene, but a Titan's quick interference sent the Ice dragon hurtling in the other direction. That left Marcus with Twig, and he crouched down next to the exhausted hatchling, though he didn't touch. "Are you worried a dragon won't hatch for you?" ... well then. Was it that obvious? Marcus didn't bother to answer the dragon's boundless optimism, simply accepting the gift he offered with a murmured thanks before watching the Floral wander off. "You know, dragons don't settle for anything," he mused as he sat back down next to Teagan, who'd removed her headphones when the diminutive Floral had approached. "You're either worthy or you're not. Case in point for that little fellow." Marcus rolled the smooth stone over his fingers with a grin before turning his attention fully on the person next to him. "It's not just what you do that defines you, it's why you do it. I wouldn't wish what you went through on anyone, but Rurik is damn lucky to have you. Most people in your position would've cut him off the minute they realized the cost of trying to keep him safe." Marcus went silent again, not because he lacked anything to say but because a dragon had suddenly landed in front of Rurik. He nodded in the boy's direction just in case Teagan had somehow missed the dragon's approach, then watched on quietly as the bond was made. Simple, with little fuss, and quite suddenly Teagan's goal was accomplished. "You made sure he was here for this." Marcus spoke softly so as not to overly intrude on the moment. "If all you've done for him doesn't make you dragon-worthy then I damn sure don't know what does. And even if you don't bond today, you are still far from worthless." |

Resident Pun God

Rhoan Tag: Ahm, A Very Good Boy Rhoan had arrived a little late, but a bit after Ahm. He was already caught up with Idazon and Aza trotted over to meet with him and Thal, but with the crowds shuffling and the dragons hatching, Rhoan didn't have much of a chance to shuffle over to say hi and hang out. He was here against the doctors wishes, so she wanted to keep an eye on him. Rui understood, and simply stood off to the side to avoid any conflicts with expecting mothers. "I'll be right back! Promise." Rhoan held out her pinky, which Rui locked with his with a chuckle. He would wait here silently, watching the candidates bond and the eggs hatch. His hatching went a bit different, having ported the practical sisters of the new crystal kingdom away from Nondir for the Titan, his sister's, hatching. He was glad it hadn't been conventional though. Rhoan was far from conventional to him. "Ahm!" Rhoan called out, shuffling through people. She couldn't help but gasp at how adorable Annae was when she passed, heading towards the antisocial photographer candidate. How fitting, she thought, before moving forward again. The place was huge, however, and she kept getting sidetracked around sleeping candidates. And now, another few eggs were hatching in rapid succession, revealing a gigantic dog dragon that bounded straight for... straight for... Ahm?! Her hands rose up to her mouth in happy shock as Ahm was barrelled over by the fluffy Dragon, amused with the duo already. Well, looks like we'll be here a while, considering Ahm bonded. She thought to herself, happy she'd spend more time here for her surgery, and happy that Ahm had found a bond. She gave them a little time and then began to shuffle up once again. Third time was the charm, right? He was heading towards Nox, so she just slipped in beside him, glancing up at the fluffy beast, Tōketsu. "Tōketsu! It's nice to meet you. I'm Rhoan, and you just bonded to my best friend! I can share him though." She smiled. "Especially since you're such a good boy." Dogs liked that, right? "Hey Ahm! I was flying out to the hospital when I saw that Thal had brought you here. I picked up Aza on the way back up. Sorry they're fighting though. How you feeling?" She glanced at his chest, curious if he would have gnarled scars or anything of the like while they walked toward Nox. Justin Tag: Brief mention of Tōketsu (A Very Bad Dog) Annae had done nothing but squish her body against Justin's in an affectionate manner, occasionally batting at the camera strap that dangled from his camera when he had sauntered over to pick it up. He understood what they meant now when they said that the bond between dragon and rider was unlike anything imaginable. It was almost as if he could feel Annae, almost read her thoughts. Granted, he wasn't sure how much would actually be in that squishbrain of hers, all things considered. As if the feline knew that he was thinking about her, she booped her head against his forehead, caving inwards like a bowl of jello. With a happy mew, "My tummy is full, can we go home now? I'm sure you have plenty of expensive things for me to knock over, I mean! Things to nibble in the fridge and a big comfy floor to roll around on." "Probably all three." Justin chuckled, watching her arm grow out of her body to bat at the strap once again. He gave her a film cartridge, an outdated piece of machinery that was used to hold undeveloped cartridges, but the empty capsule enthralled her to the point she stood up and began batting it around. Dragons were hatching, so Justin allowed her to play for a bit, but not too far from him. He couldn't help but grin when the dog hatched, however. Annae definitely noticed, dropped the catridge, and stompsloshed over in a huff. She wasn't huge, but when her frills were pushed forward to maximum capacity, she was definitely a sight to behold. "A dog!" Her paws wrapped around Justin mid picture and pulled him close into her body, and the stench of a slight toxin began to fill his nose. She was probably growing it on her back, and for everyones sake behind her he hoped they didn't decide to touch her. "Annae, calm down, it's just a dog." He grumbled, trying to fight out of her grasp. "No! Dogs are deceptive. They hide behind the good boy facade, but they're really out to... to... cause mischief! I bet they bark at mailmen, too." She hissed, glaring over at canine. True to the age old fight, the canine barked loudly at Annae, causing her to fluff up further and practically smother Justin in her own squish. "It is okay, my bonded. I will protect you from this malicious BAD DOG." Hissing once more, Annae watched the canine trot off and tackle a centaur, happy that it was finally far away from her and Justin. When she finally let go of Justin, he fell to his knees and gasped for air. "Thanks for the... protection..." "You are most certainly welcome." Back to her normal, gentle self, Annae rubbed her squishy face against Justin before peering out into the crowd at the coffee dragon that had set up shop. "I am not hungry, but I am thirsty. I am quite curious about this coffee, can we go get so-" "Oh god, the last thing you need is coffee." |

Like she would miss this. Tag: No one. Sure Nitrosian had been quiet for a bit, sure she had decided not to fly recently, she was busy after all. The dragon took on her humanoid form so that she could find a spot in the stands and watch the show. All the new dragons, full of personality and spunk. She smiled as she watched the candidates bonding she let out a small sigh as she recalled her bonding with Tamwin. It seemed like a lifetime ago sometimes, but her mind would drift back to her young rider. Tamwin had been excited to bond, it was only bittersweet in hindsight, the two had a lot of fun together and they excelled in their chosen fields. She shook her head a bit as she tried to push the image of her Tamwin’s weak body away to focus on the happier event. She was always pleased to see the new dragons that hatched, even the small and seemingly weak ones. Twig would be interesting to see grown, if he grew anymore of course...he certainly had pedigree though. Meanwhile two new culinary dragons were born as well, the coffee one was her favorite of the two, and yes she did play favorites in the end. Nitrosian leaned back in her chair yawned against her hand. It looked like one of the Centaur bonded after all! That was interesting, a little surprising after the big announcement, she had to wonder how the others would react. After all it wasn’t fun to have your hopes built up, crushed, and then watch your ruling class take advantage of things you were denied. She thought to herself and took a moment to check her nails before she turned her attention to the hatching again. |

Mission Accomplished, @Marcus, @Twig, @Rurik Words: 679 Teagan’s favorite particular scene in the movie was just about finished as her attention was drawn away by a ruckus on the sands. Somewhere across the ways, a hatchling had been tasered and there was a small commotion with...a stick? Had the hatchling disturbed the nest of another dragon, or had it hat-oh. Well. That was embarrassing. With her attention rather distracted, Teagan paused the movie in her lap and apologized for the moment for those that were watching. Whatever was skittering across the sands was certainly curious, though she rolled her eyes at the sudden but inevitable arrival of a very canine looking dragon that chased the stick across the hatching grounds up until one of the titans intervened. When the overly fluffy, bountiful creature made contact with Ahm, she gently goaded Ida with her elbow and pointed to direct the centaur towards his nephew, taking off her headphones. “Looks like your trip wasn’t a waste at all.” she offered, her mood generally slightly better than it had been a few moments ago. With that bond having been taken care of, Teagan was just about ready to put her headphones back on until she took notice of the ambulatory stick that had made its way towards the candidates. This was the closest she’d been to a hatchling since the event started and for a brief moment there was a twinge of worry that somehow, against all odds, the little creature might be considering several of them in the gaggle as a potential partner. When it stopped first by Marcus, there was a sigh of relief. She had not realized she’d been holding her breath. And one for your friends too!" It was no use. The tiny voice, followed by the little gift of amber that Twig passed out to everyone was enough to take some of the edge off of the demoralized candidate’s mood. She thanked Twig and rolled the little piece of amber back and forth between her fingers for a moment before carefully tucking it into her backpack. Her pajama pants, as fantastic as they were, lacked proper pockets to keep little knickknacks safe. No sooner had the wooden anomaly stopped by, he was gone, likely to get food and spread more good cheer. "You know, dragons don't settle for anything. You're either worthy or you're not.” Marus still managed to catch Teagan before she could put her headphones back on. “I suppose you might have a point.” she hadn’t really considered anything that way. It was true, those of a lesser constitution could have simply cut ties, or even made a profit on their less capable family members. But Teagan was not among such people; family meant far too much, especially after having lost most of it. She meant to say more, but Marcus’ nod towards her brother made her turn her attention towards Rurik with care and caution. She watched quietly, eyes wide as her brother of all people, successfully bonded with Skadesas. It wasn’t that she felt that Rurik was incapable of bonding that left her surprised, but the realization that all of her efforts had in fact allowed her brother to achieve his dream. To say that she was a touch surprised was an understatement. “Congratulations Rurik.” She remained quite thoroughly flabbergasted by the speed in which such things took place. “If all you've done for him doesn't make you dragon-worthy then I damn sure don't know what does. And even if you don't bond today, you are still far from worthless." Teagan furrowed her brow before turning back to Marcus. “Maybe...I guess we’ll have to wait and see.” |

Aloran to Vee Word Count: 519 His skin shivered beneath his coat as Vee rested against him. He shifted slightly to make himself more comfortable before he relaxed with a deep sigh, his barrel heaving once beneath her head. The pressure was nice in a subtle, comforting way. That being said, he probably still wouldn't have allowed any candidate but Vee to do it. He still couldn't quite explain what it was about her which allowed her to bypass his natural aversions to socialization, but he'd given the matter a good amount of thought lately. She was curious, which was a trait he always enjoyed in other people. Curious minds were often eager learners and creative, and her affinity for her photography proved his point. She'd also taken a dedicated interest in his work, which he enjoyed. Others were curious about what he did, of course. He didn't mean to discredit the rest of her peers with his thoughts. As a whole, he found the other Candidates to be well-meaning and charming in their own way. Some of his fears had been alleviated in the process. There appeared to be very few bad eggs in the group, and it was refreshing to know that the newest generation of dragons would be going into readily capable, responsible hands. He was quiet for a while, though he did turn his head in the direction of the squalling dragon to watch the scene play out there. He'd never witnessed a dragon being subdued before, and he had to admit it all looked rather mortifying for the creature. He hadn't heard of dragons attacking bystanders at Hatchings before; Was that normal behavior? He could understand that perhaps the brooding instincts of some dragons might be strong, but from what he could hear from the whispers of gossip surrounding them, that particular dragon was simply a troublemaker. He was upstaged by the hatching of several more dragons, three of which were headed in their general direction. He enjoyed the earthy tones of the little floral and air dragon, the latter of whom moved among them to bond to a young man sitting not far from him. A bond well made. Air dragons were impressive and elegant, and he had to admit he had a penchance for their grace and majesty. The true curiosity, however, was Twig, the little floral who scurried cheerfully among them. He awarded the hatchling a kind smile as he wandered near, and bowed his head in polite respect. Familiar voices raised in a commotion not far from where he sat, and the centaur immediately perked to the situation . He half rose to his feet, hind legs gathered beneath him while he rose up on his fores. From this perspective, he was able to watch as a furry, doglike dragon neared the rest of the centaurs, and--- "Well done, my prince!" Aloran called out his congratulations. "A bond well made!" He looked down to Vee with a smile. "Another of my group has bonded," He explained as he eased himself back down onto the tarp to lie again. "I apologize. I didn't mean to disturb you." |

Burn Out, paging michael bay... 5:37AM We're going to assume in the last 30-40 IC minutes, Rurik and Skad have gone to get food so the area doesn't get over crowded At some point in the last few days, the Technology egg had begun changing the angles of the floating plates along its shell, taking in energy enmasse. It had been storing quite a lot, and lately, the whirring and workshop noises from within had begun to work themselves up into a fever pitch. In the last hour however, it had gotten a lot quieter, the thrumming purr of engines prepping and testing only sometimes making certain residents of the Tech Titan's nest jump. Right now, several of its panels were glowing and sunk half in the sand, bouncing light between them in what looked like a digital web of strange energy relay. It was hard to be certain if it was waiting for a specific time or not, but the dragon inside was getting impatient. Nevermind, it thought to itself. Now was as good as any other time. The imbedded panels lifted once more, their illuminating light around the egg turned out as it began to transfer all that collected energy into a single function- The bootup and initial starter ignitions. There came a deep, air rattling shaking mechanical roar, the revving of engines, the sound of something screeching, the whine of metal on metal, sparking and hot. The surface of the egg was turning metallic black, smoke billowing out of the top and molten glow cracks building up within the egg, the plates moving this way and that as some kind of final process was being made. Sparks peppered the sand, white hot and gold alike. There was a soft hissing tsssssSSSSssssSSSSSSSSSSssssssss! noise as the egg closest to the Tech egg began to heat up as well, the sparks from one egg having landed upon the other. There was scarcely a moment to process this information, that the egg was catching fire much more rapidly than it was supposed to. There was a flash, followed by a delayed boom, before the explosion truly registered. The strange thing about this though, was that no matter how close or far one was, the flash had not burned eyes of melted bodies or hurt anyone- A shimmering clear force field had taken care of this, faintly shaded to protect from the flash. There was a smoldering huge ball of fire rising up quite a ways, and shooting out of this, in true movie spirit, having broken free of its own metallic egg and now flying through the air was.... ...A motor cycle, flames erupting all around it as it slammed into the rocky stone ground of a different biome, screeching tires wheeling its way right towards the candidates. It was black, molten gold and orange and white glowing panels in its wheels and sides lighting up the grounds as it roared with the thunder of a real beast of a hog. The Tech Titan, whom had been watching with rapt attention, face palmed. The egg had literally hatched a sentient bike. Maybe it had been all those bike parts and towed vehicles he'd been finding at the nest. Where had he gone wrong in his life? High above the bike, but zipping down out of the now dying flames which smoldered into smoke before fizzing out, was another dragon. It was, well, in some ways it looked like a Tech dragon, but something about it said otherwise. It wasn't anything like what most had seen. Or if they had, had not recognized it for what it was. She flew down, doing a barrel-roll as she swerved back and forth over the bike, giving a wave before she peeled off and shot elsewhere to find her bond. The bike had other plans, but similar ones just the same. It was intent on finding the one it shared quite an affinity already for. From the moment its engine roared, loud and clear enough to be heard, the human's attention had likely been on the strange phenomenon that was increasing its speed rapidly towards her and those near her. It moved so fast, the lights on its wheels seemed to blend like an optic illusion of light trails *though non physical*. Almost when it seemed too late for stopping, it pulled to the side and did a flip-around full blown Akira bike skid, revving its engine loudly into a sweet mechanical purr, its headlights dimming, narrowing. It chuffed, before the metal parts seemed to change and twist, impossibly intricate panels moving and flaring here and there, somehow it grew bigger as it changed- its shifting taking no more than a few seconds until a powerful beast stood before Teagan, the black metal of the bike flowing and changing color to deep cherry red, that enigmatic glow still present as it turned its head to stare at the human, mechanical whirring and revving sounding as it seemed to purr a chuff, a powerful, deep and alluring voice speaking to her. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Teagan. My name is Warmestrange! None will stand in the way. Seas will part before us! There is nothing we cannot do! The dragon exhaled some glowing gold solar steam and leaned forward, his warm, metal muzzle resting upon her chest, a clear half-sphere crystal growing there, until golden sun patterns in the stone flared outward, glowing softly. The same appeared upon him in the same place. He was magnificent, powerfully built, not too bulky and not too lithe, and completely customizable. From this point of view, she could already see the start of a small cockpit inside the upper dome of his head. It wasn't furnished yet, it was much too small now, but he would grow. Oh, he would grow. He derived sustenance from the sun and light- But even so, he was still quite hungry by now. It did a few more tests of its wings before it landed, walking along the line of candidates. And then it passed them, its long neck raised as it searched, even leaning back and lifting up on its hing legs, wings spread for balance. where was he? She didn't see him anywhere and a near whine escaped her slender face. Until...There he was! Checking on things, ever the dedicated assistant. Stealthily she increased her walking speed, not to sneak up on him, but she didn't want to be away any longer than she had to be. She came to a stop just behind him, her neck twisting around, a soft happy noose escaping what looked like it shouldn't be able to make such kind sounding voices. Her face was in his face, bright blue eyes locked on his as she pressed her forhead against his own, her head tipping down so as not to stab him with her aerodynamic face plating. Their crystals grew in, red and vibrant, upon his forehead and on her own, just behind the dome of a one-day pilot seat, upon the cover rim. "Reid! Where have you been! You've kept me waiting! Mesikammen to Tragendire Word Count: 550 Mesikammen lifted his head at the sound of another Tragendire's voice. He chuffed a greeting to Katci as he rose up from where he was laying. He wasn't a particularly playful Tragendire, really, but he was courteous. Her invitation to play was met with a light bat of one powerful front paw to encourage her behavior. He thunked both front paws repeatedly on the floor in front of him, lightly rising up and coming back down again. He raised his hackles and fluffed his fur. In battle, and were he fully grown, it would have been a threatening display As it was, they were playing, and he hadn't quite grown into his bones. He did hope she was playing. He'd feel silly, otherwise. He did stop the display to turn his attention back to the Hatching . Dragons were hatching more rapidly now, and he didn't want to be too far away from the action even after Maksim had bonded. He rested both front paws against the glass, nose pressed briefly against it, so that the contact of the (comparitively) cool glass against his body made it fog. He turned to look back at Katci at her question, one paw lightly raised off the glass. He puffed himself in pride. Maksim bonded, The Tragendire stated proudly, his feathered tail waving idly behind him. He lifted his bearded chin just a touch higher. She appears to be a fine dragon. He played music to her when she was still in the shell, he explained. Her name is Bolero. She's down there, He pointed with his muzzle, though it was likely hard to see with all the commotion going on. Something had happened in the stands between a dragon and a bystander, and with the crowd of people and dragons now surrounding the feeding tables, it was hard to keep track of Maksim and his newest bond. He was not a panicky creature, but he was still young and wary of sharing his connection with Maksim. Mesikammen paced slowly along the wall of windows, head tilted to fix both eyes on the Hatching below. Could Maksim see him from this high up? He could feel that his attention was utterly focused on Bolero. He snorted and dropped his hindquarters to the floor. Together, we should be sufficient in protecting him from harm. He wasn't so selfish as to demand that Maksim never bond to another creature, but he could freely admit that this new sensation of sharing Maksim was alien and just a bit unwelcome. He'd become acquainted to having Maksim to himself, and what came after today would be an adjustment. Still, he was confident in the strength of his and Maksim's bond. He'd chosen well, and they would not be separated. He turned his head to look at Genzai with the hope of including him in the conversation. I thought I saw your bonded find a dragon,, he commented politely. Was I wrong? Like Genzai before him, Mesikammen shuffled his way over to where food was being provided. His appetite wasn't quite as insatiable as it'd been when he'd been newborn, but he could still easily put away vast amounts of food. Though he was only a little hungry, the act of eating would keep him occupied until the Hatching's conclusion. |

Heifeiver and Livna to Twig and the Vast Injustices of Life Word Count: 716 This had been, by far, the most humiliating day of his entire life. Granted, Heifeiver wasn't that old, but he was certain this day would live in infamy for the countless years to come. That idiot so blithely dared to insult him, and when Heifeiver had defending himself, who had they attacked? Not the bumbling bastard in the stands, but him. He who had done nothing but correct his mistake. Certainly the lesson would have been hard, but how else would he learn? He could only hope that he'd manage to snag his spores on a couple of people before he'd been brought down. No one, absolutely no one (not even his mate!) had come to his defense except for Livna, and for this reason he allowed her to softly stroke his neck and shoulder while he rested near his nest. I will have my revenge Heifeiver swore for what had to be the third time since he'd been (more or less) deposited at the nest. He'd been too weak to move himself then, but he'd since gathered control of his limbs again. He still laid, head resting in Livna's lap. Not for comfort, he would assure anyone who asked. But for possession. Yes, she was hers. Couldn't they see? He was a grown dragon with a capable partner. I will have my revenge, and I will kill him. I will kill all who interfered. I will tear their throat out with my teeth. Heifeiver continued to grumble to himself, and Livna grimaced only slightly at the mental image. She understood why Heifeiver was upset, of course. He was an exceedingly proud dragon, clever when not hindered by his own reactive tendencies, and downright lethal if given the opportunity. She knew he wasn't a dragon to be taken lightly, and she pressed those silent reassurances to him as best as she could. Though they argued bitterly, and even to a point disliked each other's company, he was still her dragon. He was hers, and she loathed anyone who dared to make slight of him. Logically, she reasoned that the man's was an easy mistake to make. Heifeiver was, as far as anyone knew, one of the smallest dragons to hatch. He was smaller even than most florals, and some of these hatchlings here today would probably outsize him. She ached for him, really. It wasn't easy for him to be a laughingstock, but he did bring it upon himself to a point. We'll salvage the situation, Livna smoothly assured her dragon. There's no use in killing him now, and you know it. Take one more step in his direction and they'll make you pay for it. Honestly, in this instance, he was lucky for his small size. Had he been a larger dragon and made a display such as the one he'd performed earlier, he might have been shot. Dragons above, but she'd been nervous. He was really all that she had, when it came right down to it. "Heifeiver," She began to state, voice gentling. "I wanted you to know that--" IT'S HATCHING! Heifeiver interrupted with a shrill scream. He threw his head up so quickly he knocked his rider in the chin, and Livna gasped as she bit her tongue. She spit a bit of blood into her hand while Heifeiver wriggled, much like a cat who's had enough of being held. He swung his head around to watch the egg shiver, break open, and-- --What was that? He was still too shaky to move away when his hatchling approached. The thing touched him, even. You will not address me! Heifeiver snarled, and the thing's obvious hurt only made him more furious. What was this? He cast a scathing look to his mate. This was obviously her fault. Livna was right, he should have been with the nest more, and he might have prevented this embarrassment. As it was, he couldn't even move to prevent himself from being stung. He quieted only for a moment to realize he was being healed-- And mad to look ridiculous. He probably looked like a half-sheared sheep. The least he could have done was made all those wretched things grow back properly. I'll never love you! Heifeiver howled as his son scampered away. Do you hear me!? NEVER! |
