Rock on Gold Dust Woman

It was supposed to be a pleasant outing to the farmer's market.

Supposed to be; that was the key phrase.

Teagan and Idazon, along with their bonded companions had braved the stormy weather after class in the hopes of escaping the gloom that clinged to the air about the academy on such a dreary day. Though rain threatened overhead, it never deigned to fall. The skies overhead remained dull but dry as if expecting something far more disastrous to follow. Almost as if on cue, their hopes of browsing home goods and produce were dashed. One moment War had been asking a sweet floral for directions and racing Ida through the streets of Aesulla. The next, Teagan's dragon was speeding off with Idazon clinging to his bike form for dear life. Not to be outclassed by the unusual bonded theft, Revontulet shifted back from her smaller fox form and gathered up the fiery redhead, taking her back to the academy as quick as the vulpine aurora could muster. Dust and debris littered the streets, people were screaming, the sounds of beast and dragon alike added to the chaos around them.

Teagan hadn't even had the time to process the barely breathing wolf cub tucked against her chest.

"That was unexpected." Revontulet didn't need to say it, but it was better than the uncomfortable silence that was slowly being filled by police sirens and emergency vehicles. Where earlier that afternoon it had felt like a mausoleum, the academy was a small comfort. It was in the opposite direction of the mayhem that the two had just escaped and the chase in progress only a few miles away. If the panic she could feel from her bonded was anything to go by, perhaps it was a good thing that Warmestrange had been reluctant to ask for directions and take the academy shuttle. Had they actually reached the market when it had opened well...

It was best not to think about that now.

"Rev, please go find me a healer!" Teagan slid from the dragon's shoulder on unsteady legs as she kept the small cub in her arms stable. The wounds across its body were numerous, but in the hustle of escaping the carnage, some of the embedded metal had shifted enough to allow the poor thing to bleed freely. Her clothes were stained a ruddy black as the small canine began to stir in discomfort, only the slightest tug pulling at the back of her mind. Teagan ignored it for the moment, rushing into the academy and straight for the common room.

"Everyone!" She announced loudly, not caring who was in the room or what they were doing; studying be damned. "Look at this!"

Fumbling across one of the desks for a remote, Teagan turned on the TV before flicking it to a news channel as a breaking news ticker tape scrawled across the screen.

Witnesses claim that the semi-tractor trailer's rampage through the Herschel Park Farmer's Market nearly brought the vehicle to a halt..

The live news feed from one of the many technology reporters was following a massive semi truck as it barreled down the highway. Every now and again, something was thrown out of the back at what appeared to be a pursuing black and yellow motorcycle, along with several police cruisers. The video feed continued before the bizarre procession disappeared into a highway tunnel where the news crew simply couldn't follow.

The broadcast switched back, no longer showing live footage, but more signs of the wreckage that had preceded the pursuit. It started near one of the warehouses by Aesulla's docks, and winded through the city like the thrashings of some massive, volatile serpent. Police cruisers, ambulances, and dragons alike were on the scene as crews assessed the damage to various buildings and cars; all while others did their best to help people from vehicles and tend the wounded.

It was an absolute disaster, and even Teagan had not realized the extent of the damage that had been done to the city as the news feed switched to the unexpected explosion that had disrupted her life only moments ago. Someone had caught the semi truck as it barreled through the Farmer's Market. Produce, home goods and people were flying in all directions in slow motion as they tried to escape the path of the oncoming vehicle. The slow motion feed made it easier to see what exactly it was that was happening in the back of the truck however. Several people, clinging to dear life in the trailer were hastily throwing cages and crates out into the open street.

A brief pause of the video feed made it absolutely clear what it was that they were discarding as the camera focused on a crate of what appeared to be dwarf dragon eggs. As the video returned to normal speed, the roar of a tragendire, along with people screaming could be heard from within the Farmer's Market itself before dozens of injured folk came barreling through the glass and other shattered building materials, pursued by a very large, and very angry bearlike beast. Staggering from the wreckage of other crates and cages were all manner of bonding creatures, from the familiar dwarf dragons, to drachenhunds. The streets were in literal chaos, from damaged buildings and cars, to injured people and magical beasts.

...Police reports of a sting operation gone horribly wrong have led to the volatile pursuit of a notorious smuggling ring... the news explained as it continued on into a feed of various suspected culprits and explanations of just what the hell was happening.

Teagan was no longer listening. The pup in her arms was fully awake as it whimpered near soundlessly. It was just as well as Revontulet returned with a life dragon to tend the poor creature's wounds.

"Please hurry," Teagan offered the small creature to the other dragon. "...her name is Scout."

OOC: Hey everyone! Welcome to my first event here on Noveltellus. As you can see, some abhorrent folks in Aesulla have made quite a mess of the place. Regardless of whether or not you are in the Academy or out on the streets they are likely to have done some damage and strewn their cargo everywhere they can in hopes of escaping the police.

Here is where you come in! Post with your character's location and the actions that you take. You may place yourself anywhere you like within the city and don't need to be in the Academy itself. Once I am free, I will respond with what happens!

Edit: I request that you only include one character for this event. I just don't have the stamina (or permission) to toss things at everyone who arrives. Thank you for understanding!

I only ask that you bear with me just a little. I'm running this little shindig by myself (with Sen's permission, of course) and I have a busy weekend along with a long work week coming up. I will respond with posts for everyone as I am able, I just need you to hop in. This should not take me longer than through next weekend though, so if you want to join in, please do so by next Friday, September 29, by Midnight EST.

Good luck! And please, have fun!

Idazon, riding War, in hot pursuit-Probably screaming

It had been one of those days that should have been fun. Something to take all their minds off of things going on in the world, off of the upcoming, presumably more intense training that followed bonding to dragons. Going to the farmer's market had been a perfect idea, even if the day looked to be brewing a rainstorm sometime soon. For Idazon, it was a chance to explore more of the city as well as spend more time with Teagan, and get to know War, for whom he was still mind-boggled by. Perhaps it was because he was a Technology dragon- Things the Centaur never really came in contact with. The element essentially never happened out in the wilds he called-...Used to call home.

He hadn't said much about it, but he was highly considering staying in the city, for more than a couple reasons. It was a strange place, and it was as different from where he'd come from as night is from day- But perhaps that was what made it tempting. How could he go back to the wilds after this? Even living in the new city wouldn't be like this. It was a place of crystalline beauty, nature was everywhere and incorporated into everything, and while it was itself a city in progress, and had the touch of Aesulla from the Titan's help in sending them such things, it was not the main focus. But here, ah....Here was a strange new frontier.

Being called to race the Technology Prince on foot while he was basically a crotchrocket in the street had been a hilarious suggestion- Of course War would win. The Centaur hadn't really tried- At least until Teagan urged him to. It was only then he'd noticed that traffic made the playing field more fair- And had the Centaur not been so distracted when he won, he might have been more excited.

Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs just when things are starting to look up. In a matter of moments, the world seemed to explode around him as confusing chaos erupted in the form of a speeding truck, and all that followed it on land and by sky. There had been no time to prepare himself as Teagan's helmet was suddenly shoved over his head, and he himself had been bumped and forced to sit down and with very little time to orient himself in the foreign seat. All he could do was hold on for dear life as War peeled out and shot after the truck.

Idazon was not at all used to having a helmet on his head, or the somewhat restricted feeling of his senses, namely, his ears, and tremendous peripheral vision. Right now, all focus was limited and narrowed down to right in front of them, the world speeding by in waves of color and neon lights from signs, screeching tires, sirens, and the sounds of angry, booming voices from the sky. He didn't even realize he was screaming until he had to stop, and catch his breath. Perhaps it was an effect of the raw speed at which they now traveled, but after the initial terror that had come from being thrown unceremoniously into the unknown had worn off, despite how hard he was holding onto the handles of the bike, there was a creeping feeling of fun that was lighting within the Centaur Prince.

But fun was not the goal here now, right now they had to catch up with that truck and stop it if they could, without being hit by giant cages, or oncoming traffic. Without really thinking twice about it, he spoke to War the way he might speak to Rev as they came upon the tunnel, -War! What should we do? How do we stop them?- He spoke mentally over the roar of sound going on around him, finding that it came to him just as easily as it did with his own dragon. Perhaps that was because it was an emergency, or possibly because he was close to Teagan. He didn't really have time to wonder about it right now, because as he was watching ahead, a large, previously well secured cage had been rocked around so hard that the chains that held it down had come loose- Probably because the cage next to it that shared a line of chain had already been thrown off.

Right around when they exited the tunnel itself, between the wild driving and lack of secure hold, the large cage slid free, heading for them. -War, look out!- He called as it fell off the back. Whether War had dodged it, or it had simply missed and gone over them, Ida had a brief moment to realize that what was in the cage was a unicorn. Had been, at least, before it hit a vehicle behind them. Magical or not, nothing survived that kind of treatment, let alone damage done already by the truck as it swerved through traffic. He felt sick. -We're taking these assholes down.- his mental voice came to War, hardened and bitter, but determined. Before he'd perhaps been an unlucky passenger not knowing why he was even in the middle of this mess, but thinking of the hurt pup he'd already found, and all the creatures being thrown out the back of the vehicle, on top of what he'd just seen, burned him up inside and made him feel a little less than forgiving.

Anyone close enough to see him now would probably have not recognized him for the bright glows of lava-crack patterns across his fur and blazing through his mane and tail which flew free behind him like a dark flame. These smugglers were going to pay for what they'd done, one way or another.
 • *OOC: To confirm, yes, that unicorn is dead beyond dead. it cannot be saved, and also wasn't any known character outside of existing briefly for this post*

Wyrmling Vee & Water/Sound Serenade
Tag: OPEN
(Word Count: 655)

Vee was exhausted. Part of it was due to the workload, but another part of it was definitely due to the weather. It wasn't quite raining, but the skies threatened to at any moment. This kind of weather had the same affect on her as it did on most cats: it put her mind to sleep. That had made any form of... well... anything outside of sleeping, hard to focus on. Not to mention she absolutely hated the sluggish feeling. It wasn't that she was a particularly active individual; she did rather enjoy curling up with a good book or staring at photos, after all. But when her brain refused to even translate words into coherent thoughts, well... that's when she had a problem.

She'd opted to actually veg out and watch television for once, instead of trying to read or develop her photos. She didn't tend to watch it often, as she felt brainless watching most of the shows they aired these days, but that was perfect for the way she felt today. Serenade had rumbled in amusement, then taken it upon herself to curl up for a nap while her rider stared almost blankly at the TV screen. Truth be told, after channel surfing, there really was not anything to watch. She sighed and finally flicked the television off. She entertained the idea of seeking out her roommate and starting a conversation with him, but felt that it would be imposing.

"Are you certain you won't go visit? It might clear your mind a bit, to have some sort of conversation," came the sleepy voice from the dragon. Serenade did have a point, a very good one, and one that almost had her going to seek out his company, but then all hell broke loose. One minute she was zoned out, and the next, she was staring, wide-eyed, at Teagan as she came running into the room, shouting. The TV was suddenly turned on and tuned in to a scene that appeared to be airing live... and quite close by. Vee quirked a brow and watched, her foggy brain unclouding with the terror of what was happening.

At first, she idly wondered if these people had anything to do with her family's murder, but it became painfully obvious that this was something completely different altogether. And somehow, that horrified her even more. She found herself on her feet without a second thought, shooting her dragon a terrified look. Without exchanging a word, the two took off towards the doors.

"What should we do?" Vee screamed as the two ran into the streets of mayhem. She paused only a minute to spare a look around. Debris littered the streets, and among it, injured individuals. These individuals included both beast and humanoid. Tears crept into the elf's eyes as she looked around at the mass chaos.

"We help," came the simple answer. With that, the two made their way to a crate, one that appeared to have drachenhunds trapped inside, along with some littered outside of it. There were also some injured humans around the crate as well. Panic welled up in Vee's chest as she took in the scene. How in the world was she supposed to help here? And then it happened. It started as just a tune, a simple one really, but one that was definitely coming from Serenade. She of course knew that the dragon had the musical ability, but she was somewhat surprised to see that the music seemed to be helping those injured around them. Not healing them, precisely, but it was having a positive affect on them.

She shouldn't be surprised, and instead, she put her focus into looking around for someone, anyone, who could help those injured, both humanoid and beast alike. She couldn't do it, and Serenade certainly couldn't do it all, especially alone. So while her dragon worked, Vee searched, without ever leaving her side.

Vesparion to Tytus, being cliche as hell

It'd been years since Vesparion had been on a proper date. Oh, he'd been out to dinner a few times with a potential bedmate, but he hadn't really considered those dates. That was just the song and dance most people expected before a full evening, but none of it had been ]satisfying the way this was. Though it had been years since he and Tytus had seen each other, and though their previous get-togethers were painfully brief (due mostly to Ahtian's gravid status), this was different. It was as if they had fallen right back into old habits, warm and comfortable like coming home to a roaring fire after being caught in the rain.

The restaurant where they dined was exceedingly expensive (as was his usual taste). And even though he had some of his favorite food in front of him (salmon), he had barely touched his meal. Talking to Tytus now after so long was like coming up for air, and he couldn't suck enough of it into his lungs to feel satisfied. He simply wanted to sit, to drink in his face, to watch him eat, to see all the little habits he remembered so well. All he truly wanted to do was sit and watch, to take Tytus back to his room after and hold him, look at him, dedicate every curve and angle back to memory.

But that was still a ways off, and they'd only just received their food. "I was at the Hatching, of course," He continued easily with the conversation, slowly cutting into his fish. "I've only been to a few prior. I'd no idea they were usually so..." He struggled for the word. He himself hadn't Bonded, so he couldn't put his finger exactly on what it would have been like as a candidate. But he did have an ear for gossip, and he knew these dragons were a special sort. It ignited an old, forgotten twinge: What if he offered himself? What if he stepped up, offered himself for Candidacy? He was likely too old, but still...

His thoughts were broken by the sound of skidding tires, followed by screams and the wrenching sound of metal against metal. He turned in his seat, almost languidly, just in time to watch the aftermath of the wreckage. It almost looked like a scene from a movie: People screaming and running, dodging debris as well as escaped beasts of all sorts and ages. Vesparion took a moment to wipe his mouth before he stood up, eyes fixed on the rising smoke and injured people emerging from the wreckage.

"It looks as if the food will have to wait." He looked at Tytus expectantly. It didn't even occur to him that the other man wouldn't join him. He reached out and touched Tytus's arm before descending from the restaurant patio, breaking into a jog as he got closer to the farmer's market.

"Stay calm!" He bellowed over the screams. "If you're injured, come this way! I'm a doctor! Tytus," He called sharply, focused rather than agitated. "Check some of those crates. Best we see what the damage is." He turned back to the gaggle of people wandering the market, many of them visibly battered or bruised. "If you're injured!" He called again, "Come this way! You--" He grabbed the arm of an obviously rattled (but otherwise unharmed) seller. "Get me some water and towels. Anything you can manage. Bring them to me here. Quickly," He added tersely as the man stared, and then hurried off. "Form a line!" He called back to the group forming in front of him. "I can't help if you all try to be first!"

Vesparion, Herding Cats

Word Count: 514

Trying to direct people during an emergency was about as successful as herding cats. The difference in this case, was that there were several such pangarian beasts roaming the streets, and they were disinclined to follow instructions as they bolted for the various alleyways away from the turmoil that had added to Aesulla's gridlock. As folks began to mull around like pinwheeling ants, a semblance of a line began to form near Vesparion. The promise of help, attempted or otherwise, was a siren song to those who still hadn't quite processed what was happening around them. Help was being offered, and they would receive it in any way possible. If that meant pretending to be civilized despite the turmoil, then so be it.

There were some however, that had fared worse than others, and they were not so inclined to wait their turn. Wrecked cars and damaged buildings were no substitute for iron bars and shattered cages, chafing metal and nylon cords. Help was offered, and help would be taken by any means necessary. From the wreckage, a darkened silver form winked in the light. It slinked from car to car before the flash of iridescence disappeared, replaced by a glimpse of of a bloodied t-shirt and blue jeans as the curious form scrabbled forward, intent upon cutting to the front of the line. Something told the desperate soul that anything short of a humanoid guise would be met with contempt. What it was, he could not be sure, but he would plead nonetheless.

Help me!

The nudge at Vesparion's mind was pleading, yet forceful. As the bystander that had been sent to fetch water and towels returned, the poor man tripped over a portion of exposed rebar and concrete, tumbling to the floor and into the bedraggled form of the false, changeling child that had been slinking to the front of the line. The boy yelped, but it was not a sound that a human might make as the illusion was shattered with the sound of cascading glass. In his place was a curious shape of mirrored fur and flattened lenses. The wolf pup clattered to the ground indignantly with a pained cry that sent a wince of agony through the back of Vesparion's mind; it's front left leg horribly bent from a break no doubt sustained in the crash.

Help your Mimas! the mind voice pleaded again as the small cub glanced up with pleading black eyes.

In a moment, the creature's face was gone. In its place was a flat plane; a mirror of darkened glass and perhaps, darker intentions. It revealed a scene, one of torture and abuse as the canid creature recounted it's experience at the hands of the smuggling ring as well as snippets of the chase. Surely that would be enough? He would do anything! Anything at all to make the pain stop. He was too weak to heal himself, and too tired try. Surely, this one, his bonded would save him?

Tytus; tag Vesparion
[Word count: 755]

He was nervous. Maybe he ought not have been, but Tytus found it difficult to sit still, to focus. Ordering his drink had been an ordeal, and then when it came time to choose a meal... chicken. He'd picked chicken, nice and safe and not too expensive when compared to some of the other dishes on the menu. Vesparion told him not to worry about the cost, and Tytus knew he could afford it, but it was still, still...

Vesparion was sitting there, across the table from him, looking for all the world like he was listening intently to the inanities that Tytus blathered on without thinking. They were simple things; the weather, how Ahtian was doing, the hatching itself. Both of them avoided the subject of recent events, much in the same way they still danced around what had happened in the few years since they parted. It was not a conversation that Tytus was necessarily looking forward to; Vesparion seemed to have forgiven him for disappearing (he doesn't have a choice, a traitorous little voice whispered, not with Ahtian in the picture), but he knew his old Master well enough to be aware of how capable he was when bearing grudges. Never against Tytus, mind, but.

But.

It was difficult to find his footing. By the gods he'd missed the other man, remembered all the night spent awake in grief because he'd thought Vesparion dead. But now things were different. Tytus was a slave no longer. Was, by all accounts, currently one of the most powerful men in Etharius if only by dint that he and his dragon were one of the first riders there. That in and of itself necessitated a shift in their relationship because he could not simply go around calling another man Master, no matter that using Vesparion's name in public felt strange and awkward on his tongue. For all the times he'd wished to see the other man again, Tytus had never taken into account what the shift in power might suddenly do to them.

"This was also my first proper hatching, truth be told," he admitted while Vesparion paused to consider his words. That was another tale to share in full, his rather unorthodox method of bonding to Ahtian. "It was definitely a bit more--"

And then people were screaming, horns were blaring, sirens wailing. Tytus was not so composed as Vesparion when he jumped to his feet to see what was going on, taking a step toward the carnage. Ruined vehicles, injured people... animals? A flourish of crates of all sizes that hurdled out of the back of the semi trailer, some shattering on impact, others tumbling and rolling through traffic and onto the sidewalk while their occupants screamed in terror--those that were able, at least. Sticking out of the shattered windshield of one car was a crate that looked like its contents were once eggs of some variety, but now albumen and yolk and oh by the Celestial, tiny little half-formed limbs were streaked across the broken glass.

With the hatching so recent and fresh in his mind the sight was almost enough to make him retch. Tytus moved without thinking and went for the crates and cages still strewn about the road first; if their occupants were still alive (he was trying not to look, truly he was, because he didn't want to see yet) he wanted to get them out of harm's way before they got run over. Others had tumbled onto the sidewalk, even up to the patio where he and Vesparion were dining, and so Tytus set those he gathered there as well. It was relatively sheltered and safe, if not as quiet as he might have wanted for what appeared to be a vast quantity of young, terrified animals, but it was the best he was able to do on short notice. Some folk who were not injured began to help him do the same, but the screaming--

"We need a healer, a medic," he said almost to himself. Vesparion's forte was people, not creatures and--and where to even start? There was no telling how many other animals were scattered to the wind in the wake of that truck, or how many more it might dump before it was caught. He pulled out his phone and hastily fired off a series of texts; perhaps there were still some healing element dragons at the Academy who might come to lend their aid, and if there was any sort of clinic nearby...

Serenade & Vee, some creature comforts

Word count: 508

In some cases, simply making an attempt to help others was enough to make a difference. As Serenade provided a spot of calmness for the chaos in the streets people and beasts alike began to stop and gather around to listen to the tune she offered them. It did not take long for the victims of the unconscionable destruction began relax. Those that no longer felt the same aches and bruises used the momentary respite to gather their senses before striking out from Vee and her dragon's vicinity to start organizing the others. They worked to clear paths for emergency crews while directing others with more minor injuries to rest near Serenade while others still were guided towards the emergency crews that were slowly arriving on scene.

The soothing melody drifted quite far, far enough to find the ears of quite a curious creature. Her ears twitched towards the sound as a little black nose peeked up above the edge of a wrecked tire. It was soon followed by a small black face covered in short fur as the young cub considered the sound she heard. Dare she approach? There were so many already near the dragon, and the creature was so big! But curiosity, for all of its dangers, was enough to ease the pup from her hiding place. Slowly and painfully, the tiny canine extracted herself from the mangled remains of the car that had broken the fall of her cage.

Half walking, half limping, the small wolf took several furtive steps forward before letting out a little cry as her dragging wing caught on a pipe. Another tug and it came away, in a splatter of sticky fluid, though the pain was enough for her to yelp and run just a little faster. Perhaps the sooner she approached the source of the pleasant sounds, scary ones would be less commonplace? Without a second thought, the little creature slipped between the legs of several people lingering in a ring around Vee and her bonded before tumbling end over snout at Vee's feet. She lay there, trembling and exhausted for a brief moment, her expedition having been a success. As the pup lingered, Serenade's song eased away the aches in her limbs, the lost primary feathers, and to a smaller extent, the snapped bones of her mangled wing. She gathered herself up, feeling partly renewed.

As the pain eased away, the pup's colors changed. The inky black of her short coat gave way to shades of deep red and vibrant yellow before her wings-all four of them-took on a vibrant green hue. She wiggled to her toes, her tiny paw prints leaving bright splashes of green and yellow at Vee's feet as she rested her head against the young rider's knee. The small wolf looked up expectantly with a pair of vivid green eyes as she posed a question for her new bond.

It's safe here? May I stay with you?

Rocherion - tag Open, he just wanted to get outside for a little bit and this happens.
748 Words

These past few days have been trying as hell on the big centaur. The hatching was spectacular as it should be but other than that its gone mostly down hill. Stuck in a strange place he doesn't want to be in, with a promise that seemed now paper thin. Roche sighed and continued to walk down the street, his hooves now blessedly silent thanks to the new rubber shoes. His roommate has bonded and has since been moved to the wyrmling quarters. While he liked his solitude she was pleasant to be around and very knowledgeable. The big centaur appreciated Anviel's patience and hoped she was still doing well where she's at now.

Since they've been here for a little bit of time the stares aren't as overwhelming as they first were when entering the city. Roche is big and intimidating enough that most give him a wide berth as he calmly walked through. Have to set an example, he and his other fellow centaurs have to pave the way for their kin here. The more they show up in the city the more they will start to feel common place...at least that's his working theory. The big centaur isn't in candidates whites and is instead dressed comfortably in a loose plain work shirt. That white cape can go straight to hell as far as Roche's concerned. The sun felt good on his back and his mood lifted a little. There is no denying the sight seeing that is available in this new crystal city. His sisters would absolutely love it, he made a mental note to take some pictures to send to them. E-mail is such a novel thing! Even though the city is a work in progress, here is most definitely beauty in the construction here.

With that in mind he did have a place he wanted to see. Roche has heard that there was a farmer's market here and where there is a farmer's market there has to be traders and such. Maybe he can find some of the harder to find spices for the pantry. Not saying that the candidate complex is lacking in food its just...unfamiliar. Something he knows may help with the homesickness a little.

The thought made him hungry and his belly rumbled its agreement. Before he can finish the thought though the rumble turned into a roar, then screaming and crashing! The day is shattered by the truck blazing through the streets streaking through just a few blocks ahead. "What in the blazing celestials!?" Roche reared and charged towards the carnage, set an example indeed. The centaur just knew there was going to be injured and possibly (definitely) building damage, he's strong enough to move things to help those trapped if necessary.

Three quarter ton of centaur charged though the rubble, easily bobbing and leaping over debris. His ears can't be mistaken, among the cacophony of noise he was just able to pick up something else. A different kind of roar of something else. Big and bear like...oh no that can't be good. With his last leaping into the farmer's market he comes square face to face with a group of screaming people fleeing in the direction he just came from, too occupied with what's chasing them rather then the giant centaur just appearing in front of them. Not waiting to see what was going to round that corner he quickly pushed through to pick up one unfortunate soul who got pushed to the ground and threw them on his back.

"Hold on!" He reared a bit and quickly twirled on his hooves to book it out of the square. With surprising grace for a being so big he's able to maneuver out of there with out knocking anyone down while doing so. Blood and adrenaline is pumping through his system but Roche is strangely calm in the face of it. Like riding a storm, focusing on the task at hand. He'll bring his whimpering passenger out of the chaos towards a relatively open street area before prying them off. This is almost like when flash fires happened back home on the plains, the discord and panic is the same, the bear is new though. Over the din he keeps an eye out especially for those smaller than the adults. Children usually are the first to get lost and hurt in the chaos.

Rurik and Skad helping people words: 1007

Rurik hadn’t expected chaos to suddenly hit. They had been in a safer part of the city, looking through books idly when the news started to play. He and Skad watched as the semi-truck sped and threw cargo. His heart sank, as the scenes cut to the destruction and mayhem. Carefully putting his stuff away, he moved, a look coming across his face. He had to do something, even if it was just helping to clean up, after, it was something. He didn’t quite understand what the truck had been doing, but there were people and possibly other animals injured and he had two hands.

“Where you going?” Skad asked, flaring his wings as they moved hastily to where they could help.

“I want to help. At least clean up! Something!”

“Oh! That’s wonderful! I can’t believe those smugglers would think they would get away with such a thing!” He huffed, keeping pace with the boy.

“I just hope there aren’t too many injured.” Rurik replied, frowning as they made their way to the outer edges of the market. Even here, there were people arguing and moving and he skirted around, easily keeping his bonded in his sights. It was a mess, and finally Rurik was Near the middle of it. People were shoving and shouting and some of his classmates were already here trying to get any semblance of order. For a moment, he looked quite out of place, but then he started trying to help people. He directed those to the line, while he started picking things up and trying to clean. Animals scattered everywhere, and Rurik Found himself helping people find the injured who couldn’t walk who had been too close.

At one such part, dealing with fresh produce to get to a child who was trapped, but thankfully uninjured, Rurik dropped a case of tomatoes and they splattered every, raining down on Skad as he moved to get out of the way. The red fruit splattered their insides everywhere, getting juice and grime all over his feathers Skad squawked in indignation.

“Rurrriikkk! My feathers! Now I have to go wash them all off again!” The air complained backpedaling, his wings flared in slight irritation. Rurik paused, before continuing to dig the small child out. It didn’t take him long and soon they had escorted her to the proper authorities who could tend to her, and help. Skad kept complaining, trying to wash the stuff off by shaking, and he had learned quickly not to try and lick it--it didn’t taste to good. “UGh, this is going to stain my feathers, you know that? I had this all perfect this morning.” Rurik didn’t know how to take his bondeds vain side, and it was something he tried to please him, to keep him happy but then accidents like this happened and he didn’t know what he was supposed to do. The crate had fallen apart in his hands. But then the air never seemed to really take his aggravation out on the boy, but he knew they couldn’t stay here long. He whispered his apologies and that he would clean them later, he promised. There was work to be done here. They moved to another area to try their luck in helping the injured or even if they could find some of those animals and try and corral them towards those who could help. Surely, the academy here would take note and step into help, right? Rurik paused when Skad huffed annoyed. “Are you even listening to me Rurik? I know we want to help, but maybe we could find a fountain?”

“I think um.” Rurik found a rag he had tucked away and tried to wipe most of the sauce off. “I think we should wait on that, It won’t stain i promise!” He replied, his eyes searching for any signs of life. With no luck, they moved on. What first aid he remembered he gave to those as he helped them to where the dr. said he would be, he had heard the call or at least, knew what was going on just from Skad’s inference. But he was focused on trying to do what he could, even if it was just bringing people to the stand in line or if it was more dire, getting rushed to the hospital.

Eventually they found another small girl, crying on the sidewalk, obviously lost and hurt and she almost tried to bolt in fear. She was scared and lost and Rurik reached out slowly. “Hey! IT’s ok!” He spoke soothingly, trying to keep her calm. He crouched to be more at her level, and Skad whispered something as well. She finally settled and looked at him.

“Do you know where my mommy is?” She cried, clinging to herself. Rurik felt a tug on his heartstrings, and he knew he had to find her mother.

“Shhh, it’s ok. My name is rurik. And my bonded here is Skadesas. Though you can call him Skad if you want.” Skad fluffed, and tried to make himself look presentable despite the tomato juice that still made him a bit sticky. She darted between the pair. “Are you hurt?” She shook her head in response, and Rurik motioned her to come closer. “You can come closer, I bet if you ask nicely, Skadesas will let you touch one of his feathers. And then we can find your mom together.”

The little girl seemed tentative, but Skad merely made it easier for her to approach. She moved, hesitantly, while she flickered her eyes between the pair. Finally she settled a hand on his chest and gave a little coo. “They’re so soft.” She whispered, letting her fingers brush the soft texture of the burnished feathers.

“See? It’s going to be ok. Because we are going to help you get to where you need to be. It’ll be an adventure! A safe one!” Skad nodded as they started to slowly make their way back.

Hatchling
Weather/Ice Venria
Tag: Open (outside academy)
Word Count: 834

It was a miracle that Venria was still staying in the academy after what had happened during the Hatching.

She'd been cleared of wrongdoing in regards to the first incident, when the egg shattered. It'd taken a long review of the security footage, probings from at least a few Mental dragons, and possibly the interference of powers that be, but the people in charge were able to say for certain that Venria hadn't been the cause of the wyrmling's death. Normally, the questioning wouldn't have been so intense, but with Venria's reaction to the whole situation... well, she'd looked guilty.

She'd been reprimanded for creating a snowstorm in the middle of Aesulla's hatchery, but it really wasn't as bad as it could've been. It was a poor decision made under a lot of stress, and that and the fact that nobody was actually hurt made it easier to forgive. So they said. She hadn't gotten off without punishment, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it could've been. Venria had been permitted to remain in her room at the academy, although her superiors were very eager to remind her that she was free to leave at any time, whenever she liked, with as little notice as she wanted. Instead, however, Venria had volunteered to stay and "help" run the academy's day to day operations, for the time being.

Part of it was that she was afraid of the punishment she'd receive upon returning to Etharius... and part of it was that she very much wanted a reason to run into a particular Titan again.

That particular day, Venria had been helping trim some of the bushes on a side of the academy facing a major street. She was in her humanoid form, a pair of clippers held in her claws. She was working slowly, and growled as she accidentially cut too much, watching as the leaves drifted to the ground. It was frustrating to be so tiny- it wouldn't have looked nice, sure, but it would've been so much easier to just slice off the leaves with her claws. Surely there was someone better that could be assigned to such a dull task... but then again, maybe that's why they put her there.

Then, somehow, it got interesting.

The sound of reckless driving seemed to echo from everywhere, and Venria stopped, muttering some complaint or another under her breath. Then it just seemed to get louder, or closer, and before she could figure out what was happening, the vehicle and police in pursuit had passed, leaving chaos in their wake. Suddenly, there were people panicking on the street, broken cages scattered across the road, and all sorts of magical creatures in various states of injury.

Venria, caring little for the task she had been assigned, tossed and discarded the clippers in the unfinished bush, and shapeshifted into her full, thirty foot tall dragon form. She leaned down to inspect a group of bonding creatures that had been injured during the smuggler's attempts to escape from the police, three Pangarian cats, one of the them dead and the other two in bad shape. Nearby, there was a Skaraedan wolf pup, which was dead as well. Numerous other creatures were laying on the ground or wandering the streets.

Venria looked back in the direction the smugglers had come from, and let out a growl. She was fond of these little creatures in the same way she was fond of eggs and newly hatched wyrmlings. She scraped her talons against the concrete, a wind starting to pick up around her and little flakes of snow falling onto her scales. "Whoever did this will pay," she growled, glancing in the direction the police and the truck had gone. She was prepared to take off and fly after them, take-

Then, by some miracle, she thought better of it.

The police or another dragon or something would take care of it. Venria was on thin enough ice as it was, and if she went after the smugglers herself, odds are she'd fuck something up. And she'd already done enough of that. Still, the decision made her uneasy. She wasn't a healer, and there wasn't really anything she could do for the magical creatures that had been strewn across the road. The snow she was summoning through no choice of her own, even though it was quite small in amount, was not helping things.

There was, well... It was a grim task, but someone had to do it.

"Dears..." Venria murmured, leaning down to inspect the creatures scattered across the road. With a gentle claw, she began to separate those that she could tell were already dead from those on the ground that she thought were still alive. It would be better if the healers were able to see right away who they could help and who they could not. The loose, mostly uninjured creatures made it more difficult with their wandering, but at least they were capable of wandering.

((Not looking for Venria to bond, just wanted to post. My bad, I forgot about other plans I had for character development and everything.))

Vee & Serenade
Responding to events
(Word Count: 530)

Vee wasn't quite sure what it was that she had been expecting, but people pushing in to be a part of Serenade's calming, somewhat healing tune wasn't it. As she kept an eye out for a medic or at least someone who looked more knowledgeable about healing than she was, she also watched as those who were previously quite hurt or shaken, calm, then move themselves out of the way of those seeking the dragon's song. Some, she saw, moved just out of the way while others seemed to wander off. She wondered if they were going for help or if they felt well enough to forgo the medical attention and help with relief work. Not that it mattered too much, as emergency personnel soon found the circle of injured, dragon and girl.

It almost made Vee's heart stop at seeing these people, some still very hurt, helping those around them. Even still injured, some of these people were giving up their spots close to the dragon in order for others to heal and calm. She didn't understand why it took such a situation for others to come together such as this, but she was glad to see these people help one another. And as she peered at her dragon, she knew why. Hope. Serenade was not only a place for healing, but she stood as an emblem of hope. Not only for those injured, but now, more than ever, for her new rider. She felt, in this situation, that her eyes had been truly opened to the dragon that was before her, and her breath caught in her throat.

She wasn't able to dwell on the thought for long, however, as a small.... something... rolled one end over the other at her feet. Vee blinked down at it, her attention completely absorbed by the small beast that had just approached. It was clear that the animal was still young and injured, as those around her had been. What caught her attention most, however, was that the young wolf's fur was changing, from black to... other colors? Was she imagining it? No, there was definitely some red and yellow in there, as well as... wings? Of a bright green? And as the wolf moved closer to Vee, she saw that it left colorful little pawprints. The wolf had laid its head on her knee, and the next thing she knew, there was a voice... in her head.

It's safe here? May I stay with you?

The elf rested a hand on the pup's back lightly, wondering how in the world this had managed to happen, but very pleased that it had. Not just because it made her feel, well, special, but because she could now help the little one and know for a fact afterwards how she got along. "Of course you may, dear Seshat," Vee told her gently. "I'll have a medic look you over at once." She waved one over as Serenade, leaned her head down to nuzzle her rider and her new charge. She gave Seshat another little nuzzle, being rather gentle to the poor frightened dear as she did so, all while continuing her healing song.

Vesparion to Mimas, Trying to Order Some Chaos

This was not the sort of order he was accustomed to. Oh, he understood why things were this way: People liked to believe they were rational creatures, but their minds became primal when faced with disaster. He had no doubt that many of them would have been just as happy to bound about like the animals freed from their crates if left to themselves. He grit his teeth in frustration, and repeat his call until something which looked like a line began to form. It didn't take a physician's eye to realize these people needed help, and he wasn't certain now he had the ability to do much to help them. It wasn't as though he brought his operating room with him, after all, and some of these people needed to go to an emergency room to remove glass, metal, and whatever else appeared embedded in their skin.

He stepped forward to assist someone who appeared to be bleeding worse than the others. A large gash in the man's leg revealed a hint of bone from what appeared to be a compound fracture. He wouldn't be able to fix that at the moment, but he could at least assist with the bleeding. It was easy enough to find a box for the man to sit on, and another for which to rest his leg on at an elevated height to help slow the blood flow. Vesparion wrapped it as best as he could, grateful for the fact that the man appeared to be too much in shock to feel the majority of the pain. He'd need to be treated for that as well, but at the moment, he'd have to make do with a blanket. That was all Vesparion could provide.

It was then that he felt the first hint of a prick against his mind. He blinked, surprised. That was certainly a sensation he wasn't used to, rather like being tapped on the shoulder (if one could manage to tap someone's consciousness). He glanced around, but there didn't appear to be anyone attempting to get his attention. Unless...

He saw the form darting around bodies and legs, barely able to get a glimpse of what appeared to be bloodied clothing. A child? A child but not like a child, too fast, too agile. He narrowed his eyes to follow its progress, deaf to the questions and pleading voices coming from the haphazard line. Whatever it was toppled into the man he'd sent to get water, and--

"Make way," Vesparion barked, voice authoritative. He shouldered his way over to where the wolf pup lay sprawled, suddenly and very keenly aware of what was happening. These were certainly rare. He'd of course had the opportunity to purchase one if he had wanted in Nondir, but perhaps such a creature would have faced the same fate as these, tossed in crates, left in the dark. Yes, he could see it plain on the creature's--- Face? It hardly mattered. What mattered instead was the vision he saw, and the crippling hot pain he felt in his own limb, mimicking the youngster's agony. The voices of the people around him faded to a hum.

"I've got you, Mimas," He promised in a low voice. "Let's have a look at you."

It hurts!

"Yes, I know."

The break wasn't a good one. His paw was at the wrong angle, and Vesparion may not have been learned in veterinary medicine, but he knew that this would have to be splinted if it was going to heal right. Thankfully, youngsters of all types were resilient. Their bones were still growing and forming, and a break like this might have been disastrous if he'd been grown. For a young pup, however, he was confident it would heal nicely-- If it was attended to immediately.

"A healer!" Vesparion echoed Tytus's request with his own, albeit louder and more demanding. "I require a healer here now!"

Minerva: Lifting heavy objects!
Tag: Open
(Word Count: 521)

Minerva had been frustrated with everything, humans were quickly losing their sparkle to her and she was almost tempted to go home. The large centaur moved carefully through the market, doing her best to find the best apples to make one of her famous, or infamous, apple pies. Some people called the Apple Bricks, and other’s called them Apple Cement. Regardless she made the heaviest and most impressive apple pies in the world; the only one who was better was her mom but she cheated. Besides, everything she wanted to do was in order to make her Braelyn happy. Maybe a reminder of home would cheer her up after things didn’t go so well at the hatching and the Centaurs were basically spat on, save for the royalty, of course.

She had been in the middle of paying for a large basket of apples when she heard people screaming. She looked around and spotted the problem right away! Someone had decided to drive right through the damn market! MInerva grabbed two people and yanked them back and out of the way as she sprayed with bits of debris and ruined produce. “What the hell?” She asked and made sure that the two girl she had grabbed were safe, one had a bruised knee but the other seemed fine “Go on, get out of here.” She said and went to help a man that had a few things fall on him. The Truck was strange, she had seen them throwing something out of it, but first she wanted to help the people she could get to their feet and get to safety. The large centaur was pretty good at moving things when need be. After moving the beam of wood to the side she reached down and picked up the man who had been stuck. “Go on now, get to safety and find a medic.” She said to him and moved on to help more.

She would need to see the news and find out what was going on. Plus she had to tell Braelyn that humans were even crazier than they thought! Maybe she was getting a little bitter but it would pass no doubt, it was simply in her nature to get upset and find somewhere to put the blame for rotten luck. The Centaur moved carefully through the crowd, helping out where she was needed and doing her best not to make things worse. Which she could do if she got frustrated or simply moved too fast through the shattered marketplace, she was a little grumpy about her apples, now people would be denied the amazing Apple Brick she had been planning. One way or another though she was going to help and she did so by picking up rubble and broken wood so that people could escape and get to safety. She knew it was dangerous to move so much of it for now though she had to help. Minerva was a defender, and today it looked like she was defending humans, she only wished she knew how to heal as she found many people who were injured.
