BCS Rankings
Yes, unfortunately it's that time of year again where we get pick apart the BCS.
First on the docket, Iowa (sorry Matt). Of their games I have watched, I see no reason why the computers would have them in the top two every week while the humans have them no where near the top five. Iowa will get killed against Ohio State.

Second, BCS Busters: TCU or Boise State? Take your pick, but if both win out, TCU should get the nod because of strength of schedule. The Horned Frogs beat two ACC opponents on the road and blew out the same BYU team that beat OU.

Last, I must say it was fun watching Oregon kill USC over the weekend. So much fun.

You're right, Iowa is not one of the best two teams in the country. They won't get killed at Ohio State, because the Buckeyes aren't a dominate team this year. But I do think Iowa loses one of their remaining games, probably a close one to OSU.

I think Boise State's win over Oregon is more impressive than TCU's random collection of wins over mediocre-ish opponents. But that's just my opinion.

I would argue that the top 12 teams in the BCS Standings all still have a shot to make it to the title game. Anyone care to agree or disagree?

Not so fast my friend. Oregon is one win, and let's be honest, Oregon wasn't playing like they are right now. Plus, that game was at home. TCU went on the road to Virginia, Clemson and BYU and won decisively. It seems TCU easily has the upper hand. Plus, the MWC is way better than the WAC. Tell me who Boise State has played besides Oregon.

I'll make this quick.

I don't think there should be rankings until November, its just for Vegas before that.

#1 Florida. They aren't as good as they have been, they haven't played well and will probably lose to Bama.
#2 My preseason pick to play in the Championship game. They have looked weak but better in the last couple of weeks. McCoy is playing well and I can't see many people beating them this year. I'll still pick them to win it all this year.
#3 Bama also isn't as good as they've been but they'll make it to the Championship game and lose to the Horns.
#4 Iowa has pulled out game after game but nearly lost about 97 times. They will probably lose to OSU but it'll be CLOSE! All their games are anyway.
#5 Cinci is good, will win the Big East and go to a BCS game to play...who knows, TCU?
#6 TCU & #7 Boise will both win out but they play such bad teams that it seems odd to have them BOTH be in a BCS game. I think TCU will get the bid this year and Boise will go on to a smaller bowl to play an Iowa or someone like that.
#8 Oregon is hitting their stride. They'll win the PAC-10, head to the Rose Bowl and play the Bucks or Penn State.
#9 LSU I'm not impressed this year with them AT ALL. They'll lose again before the end of the year.
#10 Georgia Tech They aren't terrible but they aren't the best. They will go to a smaller bowl and face a Virginia Tech or Miami.
#11 Penn State is still good but inconsistent. They will either go to the Rose Bowl (if they can beat the Bucks) or a smaller bowl and face an SEC team like LSU.
#12 USC I hate them, God doesn't like them either.
#13 Pitt...really? they'll lose again before the year is over.
#14 Utah...meh.
#15 Houston...meh...all these teams not in the BCS leagues will make bowls but lose to superior teams.
#16 OSU Not good this year. Best D they've had in YEARS but their O is TERRIBLE. I'd be shocked if Penn State doesn't beat them. I think they'll beat Iowa in a close one and kill Michigan.
#17 Miami was talked about.
#18 Arizona ain't bad, they'll make a bowl against a South Florida or some other Big East
#19 Oklahoma State is meh. They'll make it to a bowl and face a Wisconsin or someone.
#20 Cal. Not good...will make a small bowl against a Big East team.
#21 Wisconsin read above. They are inconsistent.
#22 Didn't mean to do all 25 but who cares. Notre Dame....never liked them WAY to inconsistent. They aren't bad but will lose a small bowl game against an SEC team like Georgia.
#23 Virginia Tech. Not terrible but overrated. Already commented on them earlier.
#24 Oklahoma will face a Big 10 team this year like OSU, Michigan, or Iowa depending on who wins in the next 2 weeks.
#25 South Florida ain't great but ain't bad. They'll make a small bowl.

I know I said a lot of teams will make small bowls but its pretty clear who will be making bowls but not many teams are playing great or even well right now. Only a few are, Texas, TCU, Oregon & Miami. The rankings can change up from week to week.

I admit I'm an expert on the Big 10 since I live in Ohio, love the Bucks and watch at least 3 Big 10 games a week. I make sure to watch other leagues as much as I can but its not offered that much here in Columbus.

I don't disagree with you there, I just think you're overrating Clemson, Virginia, and BYU. None of those teams are close to being on the same level as Oregon.

However, if TCU beats Utah, I do think that will be enough for the Horned Frogs to be more deserving of a BCS bowl.

Okay you knew this was coming so bear with me.

Say what you want about my Beloved Hawkeyes, but one thing is Certain, they find ways to win ball games despite having a Horrible, that's right I admit it, Offense. I would love to say "our offense is going to find their rythm sometime," but I've come to live with the fact that we are what we are.

The Bottom line is that I honestly feel, and no it's not just cause I'm a DIE HARD HAWKEYE, that we can and will go into the Shoe and beat Ohio State. Why, because they're not that good, and our defense will keep us in the game, no matter how poorly our offense plays. HOWEVER, if we play as bad as we did this past weekend against Indiana we WILL get Run out of the Shoe quickly.

For us Hawkeye fans there's just a special feeling in the air and whether you love us or hate us, one thing is for sure, we love to have the exciting games.

If we want any shot at a National Title we need Texas to lose sometime whether it's a slip up in the regular season or the Big 12 Title game, or an Alabama/Florida Loss during he season. It's inevitable that one of them will lose in the SEC Title game.

I would love to see the Hawks viaing for a National Title, but I just don't think it's going to be in the cards this year. Either way.......

GO HAWKS!!!!

Iowa will win out. Iowa's defense creates things, like turnovers, and Pryor is turnover prone. Iowa however will not be in the BCS title game, and that will be a shame, or sham.. whatever you want to call it.

Boise is a BCS fraud. They are the SIU of college football. They got smart and figured out how to game the system. Play in a terrible conferece, found a team to play them at home in the early part of the season, beat that team, then run the table against no one. I don't like that at all, and all they are doing is proving the point that there needs to be a playoff to expose these teams. It is a bunch of crap IMO.

TCU, I don't know. They at least have played teams on the road. You go to VA and win, you go to Clemson and win.. that's pretty impressive. But really, they are not going to the BCS title game either.

I think the best team in the country is Cincinnati. I don't think anyone except maybe Texas could beat Cinci right now. Bama' wouldn't beat them, Iowa -no, Florida - no, Boise and TCU would get slaughtered by Cincy. Actually, I'd love to see Cinci and Boise play in a BCS Bowl, just to expose them for what they really are.

However, it would be great to see 6 undefeated teams at the end of the season to hear the crying over Florida getting back into the BCS title game.

Oklahoma felt the same way. Let's expose Boise and put this crap to bed.

Oops.

As a Hawkeye fan, I'm just as worried about Northwestern as I am about Ohio State. Every game is losable, that's just how the Big Ten is even in it's worst years (this is definitely one), but this Iowa team seems to find a way to win whether its Arkansas State or Penn State, and that's all that should matter. However, in college football you have to have the perfect record plus a good reputation and style points. Iowa just has the perfect record, and there's no way they are going to jump Alabama or Texas. Hell, when Florida loses to Alabama they will probably still be ahead of the Hawks. The farthest Iowa can get with a perfect season is the Rose Bowl v Oregon, which is precisely why we need a playoff system. I've argued for it in the past, and you can bet I will be fighting for it even harder when my team gets screwed by it.

If anyone wants to know how Iowa fans are feeling right now, I would recommend this: http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2009/10/29/1106527/the-season-of-fuck-you-were-iowa

Just saw in Washington's post that he predicts Penn State to be in the Rose Bowl. In order for that to happen Penn State would have to win the rest of their games and Iowa would have to lose twice. Iowa holds the tiebreaker over PSU if they tie for the Big Ten championship at 7-1 each. OSU is also still in the race, but they would have to win out as well. Iowa is the only team of the three that can take a loss and still win the Big Ten. So much for being a Big Ten expert.

Someone mentioned that Boise State is gaming the system. Are they gaming the system next season when they go to Washington DC to take on Virginia Tech? Or last year when they went to Autzen Stadium (and won)?

It'd be nice if Boise could play 2 or 3 big time teams, but rarely do they ever want to play Boise.

Ohio State had a nice spot for Boise to take up, but instead they paid New Mexico State $850,000 to come to Columbus. Tsk, tsk.
