Almost warily, Varg finally approached the Pokémon Lab - a building he'd been eyeing from afar ever since he'd arrived with Shenzi. He had come here to start his journey before he'd heard of the sudden new uprising of some kind of Pokémon church, yet he'd held himself back from entering after the news had taken root in his mind. Why was he waiting? Surely he could have at least gotten his starter and hung around Sandgem for a while before venturing further to start his journey. But he knew himself better than that. Having a new partner would distract him from making an ultimate decision, even if he did hold himself back. Still though, this was a strange situation for him. He'd never taken... this long to decide something, hence why he was standing in front of the Lab with his arms raised and folded behind his head. It was time to move on.

Slowly, Varg blinked and lowered his arms, carefully pushing his way through the door and into the building. His two-toned eyes were wide and alert as he walked further, head turning every now and then at the different sounds. Mechanical sounds. Beeps, whirs, clicks, soft hums. Sounds he wasn't accustomed to. Nevertheless, he stopped at a certain point and looked around. Wasn't someone in charge supposed to be nearby? Like the Professor? Instead of speaking, the teen cleared his throat, hoping someone would he. He wasn't intruding... was he?

The professor did notice the boy and walked over to him. "Hello," she greeted him. "Are you here to receive a Pokémon?" she asked him. Though the boy looked a bit older than her normal visitors, that was usually the only thing anyone ever came to the lab for, unless it was a colleague and this one didn't look like a researcher. He looked like a trainer. "Follow me please," she said. She led him to the back room where there were Pokeballs all lined up, each one with a label beneath it telling which Pokémon was inside.

"You may choose whichever one you like. They are all excellent quality Pokémon and are all labelled correctly. We have many to choose from. Your first partner is your most important, so choose wisely. Also," she added. "If you're feeling brave, you may choose this Pokeball." She pressed a button and another ball appeared, unlabelled. "Though I must warn you, even I do not know what is inside of this ball. It could quite literally be anything," she said.

Ah, there she was. Professor Yew, if he remembered correctly. Varg straightened and watched her intently, nodding at her words. "Here for a Pokémon indeed, ma'am." He couldn't help but smirk at his own words, remaining otherwise silent as he followed her into a back room, keeping an eye on his guide while still managing to glance around and get a peek at everything. Still didn't know what to think of all the fancy shininess around him, but whatever. He wouldn't be here long enough to make a decision, hopefully.

As they arrived, he shook his head, peering at the Professor as she talked from underneath blonde bangs, approaching the pokeballs when she was finished. Huh. Labeled and everything? That was rather easy. However, he couldn't help but tilt his head and ponder at something she'd said. Of... excellent quality? "And what happens to the Pokémon that aren't of excellent quality, might I ask?" he mused, arching a brow. Varg didn't wait for her answer as he looked over to the last pokeball, taking much interest in it. While there was literally every starter here to choose from, he couldn't quite... get a feeling from them. Without hesitating, he reached forward and picked up the unlabelled pokeball, rolling it around in his hand before pressing the button and releasing whatever was inside.

"Guess we'll see what that anything will be, won't we?"

As the Pokémon was revealed, even Professor Yew couldn't believe her eyes. This boy was some kind of lucky. After she finished gaping at his new Pokémon, she shook her head, then handed him a bag. "Here are some items you will need to start your journey," she told him. "Inside there are various useful items such as Poké Balls, potions, money and a TM."

Terrakion looked around the room, staring at the two people, wondering why they were looking at it like that. It grumbled and then turned around to show them its butt, then stamped around a bit before laying down and refusing to move. The lazy Pokémon decided it was comfortable and dared either of the humans to try to move it!

Varg noticed the Professor hadn't replied to his question, but at this point, that didn't really matter. He was blinking wildly and staring up at a large, huge brown creature of some sort that he'd never seen before. It... was some kind of Kangaskhan? A male variation of some sort that stood on all fours? He'd never seen this Pokémon before, whatever it was. So the teen had no idea that it was a legendary until he grabbed the bag Yew offered him and rustled around, whipping his Pokédex out and pointing it at this unknown beast. A few lights flashed, the machine rattling of information as soon as his starter was registered.

"Terrakion, the Cavern Pokémon. This Pokémon came to the defense of Pokémon that had lost their homes in a war among humans. Its charge is strong enough to break through a giant castle wall in one blow. This Pokémon is spoken of in legends."

Huh. So... a Terrakion, was it? ..A grumpy, if not somewhat hateful, Terrakion. Did it just flash them its rear and then grump away? Seemed that way. Varg shook his head and rubbed his temples for a moment before approaching the flopped down legendary, attempting to move his shoulder but failing. Darn, this was a stout, stubborn creature. Without any warning, Varg scrambled up Terrakion's back, positioning himself on the beast's shoulders and crossing his arms. "Alright... Uga. We're getting you out of here one way or another. Onward, noble steed! Make haste!"

...Uga didn't move, snorting instead at his trainer. This... would be a lovely partnership.
