I just remembered something that I thought playing my first freeroll at the Beach with Sodapop/Fizzy a while ago. I made it deep into the tourney, the cards went cold, and I was starting to fold alot only trying to play/wait for premium hands. I didn't really pay attention and soda never said anything but my chips started to disapear. I was stunned, since I had only had the blinds 2 or 3 times since the break we came off of. Well I looked up and saw the little "ante" word, I got a sinking feeling (for being daft, and not seeing it) and gave an "Aw sh**" to soda. She laughed and said "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about that". So to make a long story short (I know to late!). Do the extra antes added to the blinds late in a tourney, add pressure to your play? Either before they start, so you can gain more chips to afford them? Or after they start, to keep your stack from waisting away? I know I start to become very aware now when they get close, and try to pick up some extra chips by taking a little more risks. What do you think about that? Dumb move? |

The ante's start out so low that they have no effect on me the first few levels they are in play. I do consider them when evaluating the size of my stack in relation to the blinds and antes. Once I am below 8x bbsbante combined, I consider myself in all in mode. First to enter the pot, I am probably willing to push all in if I am willing to limp. As the ante's progress, each blind steal is more crucial. You are stealing a sb a bb and a round of antes. |

Your Montlhy laundry tip from Deej Follow these guidelines to care for linen: Avoid creasing linen clothing in the same places repeatedly-the fabric will eventually weaken at that crease point. When choosing colored linen clothing, look for a label that says "colorfast" or "vat dyed" for better colorfastness. If machine washable (remember to check your garment care label), use a shorter or gentler agitation cycle and air dry. | |

Once the antes kick in I will try to steal more blind if I can since at that point it becomes more profitable so the risk is worth the reward. |

That's exactly why they say that super aggressive players can succeed in tourneys, but not in cash games. The addition of the ante makes it profitable to steal blinds more often. I certainly think about that, and I am more likely to make a postion raise to steal the blinds. My hand requirement opens up a little bit because of the extra money put on the table. |

I let queen play at tropical and pp last night. The first time she Saw the ante she was totally confused. I was re-reading brunsons book on nl play and she hollered at me to come look, the computer was messsing up. I got there and she said, look it is making everyone post a part of the blind every hand. I explained antes to her (she has only really played espn). After a long rant by her about that being BS, I decided she is not a fan of antes. |

Antes factor into pre-flop "pot odds" for me. Pot odds are a lame way to explain that you're calling with marginal hands, generally, but it was late in a tourney, I was pretty short, and I had K3os in the big blind. Someone around cutoff raises minimum, and I look to see, it would cost me $600 to call the raise and I had already thrown $675 in there. Rather than kiss my $675 goodbye without a fight, I called, and was pleased to catch a king against the middle pocket pair that he raised with. Antes make it more important to see a flop for me, especially when I can't afford to be giving chips to charity. |
