OK - I just don't get it. I took my son to Projekt Revolution yesterday. I liked all the bands that played - 10 years, Atreau, Chris Cornell, and Linkin Park. But what is it with mosh pits. We were involved in 2 of them, and all the kids wanted to do was hurt each other. Now, the crowd surfing, I understand, as 2 girls tops were off by the time they made it to the stage. Overall, a good concert experience. My 5th concert this summer. |

Im way too old now but I use to love mosh pits. Sometimes you got knocked down but usually no one got hurt. In fact I think we should have an ESPN mosh pit. I can think of a few players I would like to throw in there.

I remember going to a Clash show in Hartford in the early 80's. It was general admission, maybe 3,000 people. The front of the stage (where I was) was brutal. They called it "slam dancing" back then...Seattle punks changed it to "Mosh Pit" in the 90's for some unknown reason. Anyway, about 3 songs in the entire crowd surged forward and knocked over the barrier in front of the stage. Some girl had her arm horribly broken and the band pulled her up to the stage to get her out of there. Then Joe Strummer went on a 5 minute screaming fit cursing out the crowd and then they walked off stage. After 10 minutes or so they came back out and finished the set, but the whole time they were chatting to eachother between songs and pointing to the crowd. After their last song, they threw down their instruments and jumped off the stage into the middle of the crowd and just started wailing on people. I think they each picked out a few specific people to attack. I was right in the middle of it all and at one point Strummer wheeled around right infront of me (I was trying to keep people off his back) and he drew back his fist. For some reason he decided not to swing at me and turned back around to fight someone else. It was awesome, except for the girl who got her arm mangled. |

I've dislocated my shoulder in more than one mosh pit...including..Papa Roach..Linkin Park....and the bloodiest of them all....Slipknot. Every mosh pit ends up the same. Fun for 5-10 minutes...and then someone gets pissed off and starts a fight. But still tons of fun! |
