Well the itinerary has come in and it looks like this:
Leave on Aug 30th and arrive in Buenos Aries on Aug 31st (18 hours in a plane, at least I am not Canadian)
Take a flight from Buenos Aries to Bariloche on Aug 31st

Play in the snow on Sept 1 (its still Winter down there)
Press conference and start of tourney on Sept 2
Sept 3 finish tournament and after tourney party
Sept 4 and 5- Enter poker tournament at our expense or ski
Sept 6- Leave after final table concludes

Now this is where the decisions start, they have reserved spots for us in a 1K buyin event at the local casino, and capped the entrants at 300, top 30 get paid. I get 2K just for participating in the Americas Cup, and could walk away with as much as 20K. The tourney is a three day event, and the Pokerstars Pros are mandated to be playing in it. Those individuals will be: Leo Fernandez (no idea who he is), Angel Guillen (online pro), Alex Gomes (online pro), Humberto Brenes, Dennis Phillips, Jose Ignacio Barbero, and Veronica Dabul.

We have to pay our entry fee into the second tourney, presumably with our winnings. But for those who do not want to do that they can hit the slopes for two days. I don't ski, so I need to decide if I only win 2K in the first tourney (guarenteed) do I take half of that and try my luck at the three day tourney where it very likely I will be steam rolled by much better competition?

Decisions, decisions. I will probably see how I am playing when I get down there prior to making any decisions, but it would sure be nice to have an opportunity to really play against Phillips or Brenes.

Catch you later.

Well, a few things to consider...

2K will probably buy you at least three 18 yr old Argentine chicks. They would come in handy cleaning around the house, cutting the lawn, etc.

2K will probably buy you a mansion in Argentina, and if not it WILL buy you one in Peru, which is on the way home anyway.

1K will buy you into a tourney in Argentina against some great players, it pays top 10% of the field, and you will still have 1K to come home with after an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience.

2K will buy you a nice laptop back home.

I think I would go for the 1K tourney becuase it would be a great opportunity and good practice in case you win a seat in the WSOP this year. You were so close last year.

Well the US finished 7th out of 8 teams. The structure for day one was that six sit and gos were played with members of each team dispersed about the tables. I finished 5th in mine. Though we started with 10K in starting chips the blinds increased every twenty minutes. Our table was fairly tight, and I lasted until level 14 where the blinds were 1200/600 with 100 antes. I was short stacked with 3500 in chips and made a bad call.

While my photos are still on my computer, but my computer is out of commission, I thought you would like to look at some of the professional photography that was done from the event.

The photos for the United states teams would be found under America’s cup. The other ones entitled Americas Cup I, II and Final are for the second day where we didn’t participate.

The one that they took of me, and me only can be found at:

Our team as a whole did not do too great. Team Captain, and professional, Dennis Phillips finished 8th at his table where he was getting outflopped all day. He finally went all in with 5K in chips and was called. Dennis had AQ os, and was called by the big blind with A5 suited. The man hit his flush on the river knocking him out. The other US players went out 7th, 5th, 5th and 2nd. Our second place finisher was head to head with Humberto Brenes for the greater part of 30 minutes. But after they indicated that US was not going to make the second day of the event he was a bit dispirited and lost his edge. Humberto took him out two hands later. They were almost even in chips at the time.

Have a good one

Rich
