Leader of Disappointment

I am going to compile as much as I can to basically sum up the lore of Redwall, the furry series where peace loving monks and orphan children beat the shit out of trained warriors. The World of Redwall There is only one map of Redwall amongst many, but to sum it up. . .no book has the 'same' map or features due to Brian's writing style. Even though each story takes place in the general world, the map can change randomly so to sum it up; ![]() Redwall is generally in the 'middle' of the map with Sala (Shortened from it's huge ass name) facing the sea, you have god knows what in the south, scotland in the north (and lots of ice too), and in the east you have a mixture of either a shit ton of sea or a shit ton of sand. Beyond the sea lays a shit ton of islands, but the biggest features of the map is Redwall and Sala itself. Redwall is the huge-ass abbey with high walls and stocked well on food, Sala is a fucking mountain castle in a dormant volcano which uses terrace farms. "What about other castles" They are shit-tier. The Races of Redwall Furries. Furries only. http://redwall.wikia.com/wiki/Redwall_Species Basically you have four categories; 'Good races' or Woodlanders whom are more likely to be 'good', having desirable traits and often are just a bunch of hippies. They live like savage hermits, except for hares whom are british. The only 'gray' races are shrews and voles whom are placed on the 'good' list. 'Evil races' or Vermin whom are just barberous dicks whom live either as; common bandits, sea faring pirates, or savage tribals. As a general rule, there are typically more vermin then woodlanders and they all have a hard on for enslaving everything, including themselves. Vermin characters are not intelligent, and often just steal weapons (presumably from somewhere). Birds are just. . .well. . .birds. They are neither good or evil, but it often just depends. Ravens and Crows for instance are evil, but smaller birds can be 'good'. Birds often view everyone else as food or lower then them and us have permanent bitching fits when dealing with them. No one likes birds. Fuck em. There are two kinds of reptiles; 'fuck you' sized dragons and barbarous cannibals. Creatures likes newts and frogs act more similar to neutral hostile vermin and attack anything with pokers. Snakes however are different, as they can grow to the size of 'fuck you' and have poisoned teeth. Snakes can also apparently hypnotize you. Where do all these animals come from? I don't know. Brian never truly got onto the details how vermin hordes can grow so large or how there is never truly any villages outside of a abbey of Redwall. Just assume most stuff just happens (and stays) in the woods. Well geez, Are there any kingdoms in this lore? Yes. Kingdom of Sala is the most mentioned because it controls everything from it's mountain and into Mossflower, but there is a kingdom to it's south (ruled by squirrels), the hidden Kingdom of Noonvale (controlled by Mice), Kingdom of the Lands of Ice and Snow (Ruled by wolverines), and a bunch of petty kingdoms ruled by vermin. Well, not really even kingdoms, it would be more closely related to 'we kind of conquered a single castle and now we call ourselves King' Vermin often take over castles built by the woodlanders, or have slaves build these castles, and then often just take over. No warlord ever controls more then his castle. A lot of these kingdoms are on islands (which in most of the books is in the sea) and are controlled by corsair kings whom enslaved fucking everything in a 7 mile radius of them. There is also a bunch of stuff with wildcats, but that is never explained. If the woodlanders are hippies, why do the vermin keep loosing? The vermin win only because sometimes they are not incomptent, but a lot of the campaigns against Redwall itself is ended due to this list of things; -The Long Patrol -Raped by badger kings -Ambushed -infighting (lots of this) -betrayals -Brilliant warlord, idiot generals -Idiot warlord, brilliant generals -arrogance -greed -Ghosts -small children -inanimate objects -falling on their own weapons -The sun (the first book, where Cluny the Scourge's archers are incapable of firing on Redwall's defenders due to placing his archers in front of the sun's gaze) -Hilarity and other misc things Now, it is a long list, but the most often killer of a vermin horde as it marches across a land is it's own infighting and often avoiding the issues entirely. . .that and the vermin are typically incompetent. At least when the situation arises. The hell is a Long Patrol? British hares whom are trained in the martial arts of Mary Sue. Basically, the Long Patrol are elite guards and the personal army of the Badger Lords of Sala, and they are british. They are really fucking british. They also often master weaponry, hiding, jumping, defying gravity, and other such things which make them able to 1v1 small armies when need be. Often led by their badger lord, hordes often do not visit Mossflower until years upon years later as the book progresses. Who rules Sala? To put it simply; sometimes badgers. The long version; Badgers have unique rules. They suffer from a blood rage which makes them able to 1v1 small armies for a short time and it effects them like a disease. Badger young will go out adventuring and abandon their parents, and badgers are serious fucks whom hate everything, especially vermin. Sala is never ruled by a family, it is really just ruled by the strongest Badger family whom swings on by and says 'lol, I am king'. Then they are made king. Sounds silly and retarded? It is, but somehow badgers are called to the mountain fortress as if mouse god wills it and they keep being declared king. The size and might of Sala and it's fortress, Long Patrol, and what not are entirely dependent on time. Its often possible for the entire realm to be defenseless and without a ruler for generations. There sure are a lot of pirates Yes there are. Just assume that every island is inhabited by slaving corsairs of vermin. What is really in the North? Vermin. Lots of vermin. Noonvale too, but they are seriously not important The north is mostly known as 'The Highlands' and beyond that is known as The Lands of Ice and Snow, basically the polar icecaps. The Highlands are filled with nothing but roaming vermin hordes, endless vermin forts, misery, pain, and cannibalism. Every major enemy in Redwall that wasn't laughable came from the vermin north (with exceptions of sea raiders and Slagar the Cruel) The Lands of Ice and Snow are brutal land ruled by wolverines, who's king and crown are killed by scottish squirrels. Children can kill warlords and trained warriors? No, but they do often end up being their bane. Also known as Dibbums, Redwall orphans are the fucking bane of vermin existence often for either ironic effect or comedic one in the series. Children often end up being the acid which burns away armies with their sheer adorableness. How can Redwall defend itself so well? Aren't they super hippies? They are, but they are protected by a ancient ghost of Martin the Warrior, their founder. Redwall also have a shit ton of allies. Otters are often warriors and there is a tribe which hangs around and protects the abbey itself. They are also big buddies with Sala and the Gousim, a army of expendable shrews. Redwall is also protect with high walls. Even though they are super hippies, Redwall isn't retarded and know when to fuck over vermin to save themselves. What are the religions of Redwall? The basic religions are; Nature hippie shit, demon worship, and shamanism. Naturally, the hippie woodlanders follow a vague druidic-like faith which praises nature, while vermin often revert to worshipping devils, demons, and also dabble in shamanism. Vermin are also very quick to join cults and subscribe to extreme superstitions. Why do the vermin attack Redwall so often? Even though it is easy to say they attack because phat lewt, the most common theme is that the vermin want to inhabit the castle, kill/enslave it's inhabitants, and build a empire. A lot of vermin armies and warlords like empire building to put it simply, with the first 'true' warlords (wildcats) often marching everywhere and enslaving shit. Why is Redwall the book so different in lore then everything other book? To put it simply, Brian had a change of heart in his second book Mossflower I guess, so the 'true' beginning of the lore begins in Mossflower. Redwall is the only book which ever features cats as fully sized cats, confusing geometry of what the Redwall abbey is, and even the size of it's characters. In Redwall, Cluny's huge army arrives on the back of a cart drawn by a horse, and then this never happens again ever. Is there currency? No. There is a concept of gold, treasures, and shiny things, but there is never any true trading. Well Geez, how many books are there? If Brian was still alive, he would still be cranking out these books. To put it simply; a lot To put it statistically; 22.5 (one book is a substory of another) Huh, There sure is a lot of food, eating, and references to food Yep. Like you wouldn't believe. I see they made a Redwall TV series. How was that? The only child-friendly action packed TV program to feature armies, killing shit, and intense loss? It was okay. 6.3/10, for a kids show at least. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF326FCA2D69EC726 |
