January 7, 1990, a man's body was found in this wooded area in rural Daviess County, Kentucky.

He had been shot multiple times and beaten so severely that his teeth would later be found in his throat.

His hands and feet were both severed, never to be found. Neither has his identity.

Daviess County Sheriff Keith Cain says to say it was a case of overkill is certainly an understatement.

Daviess County Coroner Bob Howe says the man was found nude with his feet pointed in a northerly position.

For 16 years the Daviess County Sheriff's Department has done everything imaginable to identify their John Doe.

They generated a close likeness of what they believe the man would look like in life.

Detective Jerry Spurrier has also put their John Doe on numerous Web Sites and checked out numerous others.

Sheriff Cain is fairly confident that the victim is not from this area.

Detective Spurrier says the main goal is to identify him, and to give his family some closure.

Sheriff Cain says there is a considerable amount of physical evidence in the case, much more so than a lot of others they've actually went to trial on.

He says if they could put a name on the victim by backtracking and identifying his associates, he feels at least optimistic that they could still solve this case

Scott Michael Morris
The victim was located January 7, 1990 near Owensboro in rural Daviess County, Kentucky. He was identified in September 2007 as Scott Michael Morris, who was last seen leaving a convenience store in Indianapolis in 1978 when he was 14. Morris' family at the time told police that the boy frequently ran away from home but usually returned. His grandmother reported him missing, but it was not until 1989 that the family filed a formal missing persons report. The body was identified after Indianapolis police contacted Kentucky investigators to share a cold case. A description of the missing boy matched the body, and tests on DNA samples from Morris' relatives confirmed his identity.
