I live in this area, and have heard absolutely nothing about this. I did a search and came up with nothing-this is weird.

Man's skeletal remains found in Harrison County
Fire kills 2 in George County
By MARGARET BAKER and ROBIN FITZGERALD
SUN HERALD
GULFPORT - Two people died in a house fire in George County over the weekend while a Harrison County sheriff's deputy discovered skeletal remains of another man in Harrison County.

Harrison County authorities are treating the discovery of the skeletal remains as a homicide and plan to check dental and medical records to determine if the remains are that of Justin Lacey Tubbs, a 48-year-old Saucier man who has been missing since April.

Tubbs drove a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, which matched the description of a vehicle that was found near the remains.

Harrison County Sheriff's Capt. Windy Swetman confirmed Sunday that an investigation was under way.

Hunters found the abandoned pickup around noon Sunday about two-tenths of a mile east of Mississippi 605 and reported it to the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Gene Dedeaux responded and called for other authorities when he found the human remains, said Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove. The highway is the new stretch of state road that connects Cowan-Lorraine Road to Mississippi 67.

Hargrove said he called Dr. Paul McGarry to the scene. McGarry is the forensic pathologist who performs most of the autopsies in South Mississippi, but he isn't routinely called to the scene of a crime.

"We've spoken with the family of Mr. Tubbs and will be going over dental records and medical records to determine if it is him," Hargrove said.

Digg it del.icio.us AIM Missing man a murder victim
Skeletal remains now identified
By ROBIN FITZGERALD

GULFPORT --Skeletal remains found Sunday in Saucier have been identified as Justin Tubbs, reported missing in April, who died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.

Tubbs, a 48-year-old Saucier resident, was the victim of a homicide, Hargrove said. Hunters found the remains in a secluded area.

Tubbs' teal green truck, a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, was discovered Sunday in thick woods across from Clark Road and south of a new stretch of Mississippi 67. Skeletal remains were found near the truck.

Hargrove on Tuesday drove a second batch of records to Louisiana for review by Dr. Paul McGarry, the forensic pathologist who performs most autopsies in South Mississippi. McGarry is testifying at an unrelated trial in New Orleans, but was hand-delivered copies of Tubbs' dental and medical records Monday.

Hargrove was very cautious and deliberate in determining the identification of the remains.

"Mistakes have been made in other areas of the state by rushing an identification," Hargrove said, "but I'm not going to become a part of those statistics."

"The information we provided him Monday wasn't conclusive enough for us to say, 'yes, this is who it is,'

" Hargrove said.

Sheriff's Capt. Ron Pullen said criminal investigators and patrol officers have combed different areas since Tubbs and his truck disappeared. His truck and the remains were found on the site of the old Blackledge sawmill, which is near a creek.

"It's a very secluded, gated area not known for foot traffic or even drive-through traffic," Pullen said. "The only time you could expect any kind of traffic is hunting season. We're still investigating and following leads."

Friends of Tubbs said he was a truck driver who hauled loads from dirt pits. They said he never married but took care of his mother.
