Case History
The victim was located by a man checking hunting traps below the Thorpe Reservoir Dam in the mountains, near Glenville, North Carolina on February 12, 1984.
He was fully clothed and snuggled up in a blanket. A wallet with a driver's license and other identification was found nearby. The ID belonged to a Pinellas County, Florida, man who had lost it several months previously. Apparently, this man was known in the area to be using the name on the ID, and reportedly had been living in the area for several months.
There was evidence of camping at the scene, perhaps with a companion.
He was reportedly last seen sometime around the middle of December, 1983, in the Cashiers area.

Teen found dead in North Carolina identified after 32 years as missing Memphian
POSTED 5:32 PM, FEBRUARY 15, 2017, BY KELSEY OTT, UPDATED AT 05:33PM, FEBRUARY 15, 2017

JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. — A teen who was found dead in 1984 has just now been identified.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced he has been identified as James Allen Reymer, who went missing from Memphis in 1983 when he was 16.

His body was found in February 1984 below the Glenville Dam in southwestern North Carolina.

According to the sheriff’s office, one of Reymer’s friends saw a facial reconstruction in an Illinois newspaper in 2015 and made the ID.

According to a case file from the DOE Network prior to the positive identification, he was killed by a bullet. He had been living for a few months in the area where he was found and also may have had ties to Illinois and Florida, the case file said.

“Through many exhausted leads throughout the years we are pleased for the Reymer family to finally have closure,” Sheriff Chip L. Hall said in a statement.
