Family searching for missing veteran By Christine Dobbyn (11/12/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - The story of Curry Williams was supposed to be the classic tale of a retired veteran. He spends his days reaching out to other veterans, but his life mission has suddenly stopped. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also on ABC13.com: Send news tips | RSS | ABC13 E-lert | Info mentioned on air | Search abc13.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Williams disappeared Friday during a routine he kept with his wife almost every day. His family says he takes the Metro Light Rail to the Medical Center with his wife of 23 years, Gloria, to make sure she gets to work. Then he stops by the Fiesta on the rail line and picks up a coffee and paper. "There was no answer so I called him again, no answer," Gloria told us. But Friday when Gloria got home from work, he was not in the normal spot watching TV at home. "I just want to know that he is alive," she cried. As the hours passed the family filed a missing person's report. "He would never harm anyone, and I don't know why anyone would want to harm him," his daughter Lynn Cecil said. The air force veteran and retired VA worker has epilepsy, but his family doesn't believe that is why he is missing. They have checked hospitals, jails and the morgue and there is nothing. Gloria received a strange phone call from a woman who claimed to be from METRO Police and said she had Curry's glasses at the lost and found. "She said her name was Margaret, and then she said her name was Sharon," William's son-in-law Ronald Cecil said. "She seemed nervous on the phone." The caller ID was coming from a Reed Road hotel. When they went to lost and found there was nothing there. Loved ones say he is the kind of man who would help out anyone, opening his heart to others. Now the family hopes anyone who has information will do the same. Members of Texas EquuSearch have been searching the area where Williams was last seen and so far have not found anything. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Houston police. Photo on site http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=local&id=5758006 |
