The Jefferson County coroner's office is trying to identify skeletal remains a father and son discovered Sunday while walking through a wooded area near the 8000 block of St. Andrews Church Road.

Deputy coroner Jim Wesley said the body appears to be that of a middle-aged white male who was 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-8 tall and had a 34- to 36-inch waist.

Dr. Emily Craig, the state forensic anthropologist, determined that the man had been dead at least four to five years.

A key ring with 11 keys, two of which are for a Ford, were found near the remains, Wesley said. Louisville Metro police homicide detectives also responded, he said.

Anyone with information should call the coroner's office, 574-6262.

LOUISVILLE (WAVE) -- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office hopes a WAVE 3 viewer can help them identity skeletal remains found over the weekend. The remains were found in a wooded area near St. Andrews Church Road and Dixie Highway.

The coroner's office says the victim was a middle age white man between 5-6 and 5-8. He also had a 34 to 36 inch waist and some dental work.

The coroner's office also tells us that an olive strap with a "Dayton Electric and mMnufacturing" imprint was found near the remains.

The skeleton is believed to have been in its location for at least four years.

If you think you know who this may be, please call the Jefferson County Coroner's Office at 574-6262.

Remains found in woods identified
Man had been missing since '97
By Emily Udell • eudell@courier-journal.com • May 24, 2008

Skeletal remains found in April in a wooded area off St. Andrews Church Road near Dixie Highway have been identified as those of a man missing since 1997.

The family of Ronnie Dale Johnson reported him missing in September 1997, said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. Johnson was 43 when he disappeared.

Wesley said the cause of death had not been determined, but no foul play was suspected.

Johnson's daughter, Amy Johnson, said: "You'd think it would give you closure, but it raises more questions."

She said her family contacted the coroner's office after they heard the remains were found with an electrician's key ring and two Ford keys.

"He drove only Fords," she said, and he was an electrician who worked for Reynolds Metals Co. for 17 years.

His remains were found on April 20 and were identified by dental records, Wesley said.

Johnson was living in the 4700 block of Cofer Avenue in Pleasure Ridge Park when he was reported missing.

Amy Johnson said friends of her father had been in contact with her family over the years to ask whether they had heard anything from him.

In addition to Amy Johnson, Ronnie Dale Johnson is survived by two other daughters, Jessica Johnson and Jennifer Amanda Kenney, and two grandchildren.

The family was planning an at-home service.
