The body was so badly decomposed that only the skeletal remains were left with the clothes, Sgt. John M. Delaney said. Police have released a photograph of a distinctive necklace, a rawhide chain with a brown wooden hand-carved pendant that was found with the remains. The race of the victim is not known. He was 35 to 40 years old, with a height that was determined to be between 5 feet, 6 inches and 6 feet, 1 inch. He had very dark black hair, extensive dental work, a partial upper plate and was a heavy cocaine abuser. The victim was wearing a black jacket, white pajama-type bottoms with red stripes and black Nike sneakers (Air Jordans) with a white swoosh. http://www.wggb.com/Global/story.asp?S=11402247 Police identify skeletal remains found in Springfield in July Posted: Oct 28, 2009 05:17 PM EDT By Caitlin Penndorf SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- Police have identified the skeletal remains of a man found in July in an open field in Springfield, according to Springfield Police Department Sgt. John Delaney. The remains were identified as Luis Figueroa, 42, of Springfield, Wednesday. Police had said Figueroa was a known drug user. His body had been found badly decomposed in a field located at 100 Acorn St., and police had spent four months trying to identify the remains. After the body had been discovered in July, the Medical Examiner's Office issued a report stating the body belonged to a male between 35 to 50 years old, according to reports. The report also stated the then-unidentified man had been a heavy drug abuser, according to officials. Police had very little to go on besides the Medical Examiner's report, clothing that had been left on the man and a distinctive rawhide chain with a brown, wooden hand-carved pendant necklace, according to reports. Figueroa had not been reported missing because it was assumed that he had been placed in jail, according to Delaney. |
