Police seek ID of skeletal remains Body found in shallow grave in Benton Township in December 2000. This week's Crime of the Week comes from the cold case files of the Berrien County Sheriff's Department. According to Detective Sgt. Fred Laesch, on Dec. 3, 2000, the Sheriff's Department recovered skeletal remains along the railroad tracks on Riverside Road in Benton Township. The remains were of a white man, 35 to 50 years of age, 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-7, with dark brown to black straight hair. Clothing found on the victim were Wrangler blue jeans and a purple, short-sleeved T-shirt, with "Music City USA, Nashville, Tennessee." The body was located in what appears to be a shallow grave and had been there for three to nine months. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the identity of the skeletal remains. The South Bend area Crime Stoppers Program serves the entire Michiana region.
