"We have gotten about 30 leads from people who thought they knew her, but none of them have been correct," Madill said. "By the characteristics of the lady, we suspect that she was homeless and may have gone under the bridge of the Red Run Drain for shelter during the rain." Madill said an autopsy on the body puts the victim at between 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. The woman had a scar on her right wrist that appears to have been stitched up years ago, Madill said. She was wearing a beige sports bra and black stretch pants when she was found in the water. "There were no marks (on the body) to make us believe this is foul play," Madill said. Madill said he has visited shelters in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, showing a sketch of the woman with hopes someone would recognize her. "All we want to do is give her a proper burial," he said. Anyone with information about the woman should call (586) 574-4810 or (586) 574-4700. http://www.freep.com/news/cfp/7/wcop28_20030828.htm Unidentified drowning victim laid to rest A unidentified woman found June 29 in the Red Run Drain was buried this month in a donated Clinton Township cemetery plot. Warren Police Detective Dave Madill said he did not know who donated the plot. The Macomb County medical examiner determined that the woman drowned and no foul play was associated with her death. The woman was black, in her 30s, about 5-feet-4 and 200 pounds. She had a scar on her right wrist that appeared to be from stitches. She was found wearing a beige sports bra and black stretch pants. Police believe the woman was homeless. She was found near Dequindre and Chicago. The area is part residential, part industrial. Madill said the case is still open. Police saved DNA samples and teeth to help identify her. Anyone with information about the woman's identity is asked to call Warren police at 586-574-4700 anytime. By Mary Owen |
