Las Vegas Unidentified

JANE “Cave” DOE

Jane Doe was found in a cave in the outskirts of Las Vegas on 9-27-86. She had been dead for approximately 3 - 4 weeks. She was found nude, lying partially under a blanket. Some clothing was found nearby. She had no traumatic injuries. It appeared that she may have been living there for a short time.

Her description was a Caucasian female, age - 20-35 years old (at the time of her death), 5' 6" tall, 92 pounds, slender build, had at least one child, light to medium brown hair that may have been previously streaked and 6 - 9" in length. Her weight was postmortem and she had been deceased 2 - 4 weeks. She would have lost water weight to get to 92 lbs. She had dental restorations on a few of her teeth. We do have dental x-rays. DNA was not around in 1986 and so we do not have DNA.

The medical examiner found during autopsy that she had multiple stress ulcers in her stomach. These are most commonly associated with severe head trauma or severe burns. In this case, there is no evidence whatsoever of trauma or burns. In reviewing it with our current doc's, the stress ulcers could be from serious stress in life - mentally or severely stressed life. Examination revealed that she had previously given birth to a child.

The medical examiner estimated the time of death 3 - 4 weeks prior to finding her which was 9/27/86 which would be late August in Vegas and the temperature was approximately 110 degrees at that time. There was no evidence of any water/container in the area. Inside of the cave the temperature would be much less and a constant 75 - 85 degrees. The cave showed evidence of a campfire had been in use as the walls had some black soot on the walls.

Clothing found in the area included: white tennis shoes with pink stripes, beige t-shirt with floral design on front & back - size medium, blue jean pants - brand Willie Country - size 9, and eye glasses found nearby. Most of the clothing was found inside of the cave with some outside of the cave. The eyeglasses were a clear large plastic frame with almost round lenses with a slight tint to the upper portion of the lenses possibly a purple tint. It is unknown if they were prescription or otherwise. We do not have the manufacturers name on the frames.

The shoes, bra, tee shirt, plastic Colgate mouthwash bottle, Kissing Stick lip-gloss and a book of matches (Major League Baseball-Official Caps Advertisement) were found in the cave entrance. A Weeds brand long sleeve white shirt size 18 with no buttons with a star design on front and back was found on the dirt road 1.8 miles from the cave. (the shirt may not be involved in this). There were no signs of any food (cans etc in the cave or outside of it).

Dental x-rays are maintained in the file. Prints taken of the feet are maintained in the file.

Buried but not forgotten!
