POLICE HOPE VICTIM LIKENESS HELPS CASE

The facial reconstruction of a hmicide victim found near Jones on April 18 has been completed and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation officials hope the technique will help them discover the identity of the victim.

The nude body of the white woman, covered with a powdery substance, was found in a ditch along the North Canadian River 1 1/2 miles east of Jones, police said.

Jones police chief Ray Kerr said an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's office showed the woman had been shot three times in the chest with a large caliber gun, possibly a pistol.

Kerr described the woman as freckle-faced, 18 to 23 years old, weighing about 120 pounds with shoulder length, straight brown hair and crooked teeth.

Pictures of the victim's reconstructed face were released to the news media Wednesday and pictures will be distributed to lawmen throughout the region today, OSBI spokesman Paul Renfrow said.

"We've been in contact with law enforcement agencies throughout the nation. We'll send copies to almost every law enforcement agency in the country," he said.

Although police are still checking information gathered from people who called after the OSBI and the Jones Police Department released a composite drawing of the woman in April, many leads have been eliminated, Renfrow said.

Many of the calls have been in reference to a red, heart-shaped tattoo outlined in blue over the victim's laft breast, he said.

"We got a lot of calls. A lot of them we could rule out immediately but a lot were good enough to follow up. "We're hoping, with this relatively new technique that someone will recognize her and call us," he said.

The technique has been used by OSBI in the past and provides a more lifelike look than drawings, officials said.....

The Oklahoman
April 19, 1982

It was two years ago Sunday when a fisherman found her body, covered with lime, on the banks of the Canadian river near Jones.
Oklahoma crime agents are still looking for the murdererof the young woman who was shot to death. Her nude body was left on the bank of the river where it was found April 18, 1980.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesman Paul Renfrow said Sunday the agency is again appealing to the public for any leads that might solve the mystery.
Attempts at identification, including fingerprint comparisons, the circulation of a composite drawing of the victim, and a facial reconstruction made with modeling clay sculptured over the scull, have failed.
Renfrow said the case is one of the few in which the agency has made such extensive yet unsuccessful efforts at identification.
The woman is described as being 18-25 years old, weighing 118-120 pounds. She has shoulder-length medium to light brown hair with a fair complexion and freckles. Her most unusual identifying mark, however, is a small red and blue heart-shaped tattoo over the left breast.

Renfrow said anyone with any information should call the OSBI toll-free at 1-800 522-8523 or in Oklahoma City at 427-5421.

Police Seek Identity of 1980 Jane Doe
Unsolved
July 11, 2012
By: Kristy Gault

On April 18, 1980, an unidentified female was located on the east bank of the North Canadian River, 20 miles east of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and very near in proximity to the town of Jones, Oklahoma. Her identity is still unknown, but police feel there is someone out there who holds the key to her identity.

The Oklahoma County Medical Examiner’s Office at the time determined that she was a white female, aged 18 to 25 with light, reddish-brown, shoulder-length hair and being of a height of 5'6" or 5'7". The young woman weighed about 120 pounds. The woman's skin was fair with soft freckles dotting her face and upper torso.

She had irregular teeth with numerous areas of restoration. Her teeth were in excellent condition, indicating good oral hygiene and her wisdom teeth were missing. The female had an appendectomy scar on her lower abdomen and a tattoo on her upper left chest of a red and blue, professionally rendered tattoo of a heart with a scroll like line going through the heart. The heart and line was done was in blue ink and center of heart is colored in red ink.

The death of the woman was ruled a homicide in 1980. She was shot 3 times in the chest area with a .45 caliber pistol. Police determined that the woman was likely shot at another location and dumped at the river's edge. A dime was found inside a chest wound on the woman along with a .45 caliber bullet, indicating that she had been dressed when she was shot or holding a handbag in front of herself. The victim’s body was found nude, laying on her back, and covered in lime.

Bob Green is an investigator with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force in Oklahoma City. In January 2012, he took command of the criminal investigations division at the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, and recently decided to take a new look at one of the older, unsolved cold cases. "The “Lime Lady” really seemed interesting and I thought if we could at least get her identified we might get somewhere. This is my effort alone and I am still reviewing what is in the case file. She has got to be someone’s somebody, and they need closure as well. She was in her early 20s and could still have a parent living or a sibling," he said.

Many years have passed since this Jane Doe was first discovered, but the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department has never stopped trying to identify her. Through the years, several sketches were drawn of her, and of her tattoo. Recently police released the actual photo of the woman's tattoo in hopes that someone would see it and remember it. If you have any information as to the identity of this unidentified female, please call Captain Bob Green, Criminal Investigations Division, Commander Dignitary Protection Unit at 405-713-1036

Oklahoma’s Unsolved Mysteries: The woman without an identity
Posted 10:23 pm, February 13, 2015, by Chellie Mills, Updated at 10:24pm, February 13, 2015

OKLAHOMA — It’s a case that has been a mystery for nearly 35 years. A woman found dead, shot multiple times. The killer tried to get rid of the body by covering it with a powerful chemical, likely hoping it would dissolve the body quickly.

Investigators would like to find the killer, but they can’t because they have no idea who the victim is.

“We’re still hopeful. We really believe at some point we’re going to get a break in this case.,” Captain Bob Green, with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

The case dates back to April 1980. The young woman’s body was found along the banks of a river just outside of Jones, Oklahoma. She was found by a group of fisherman.

“Well, it was a very violent crime,” Green said.

To this day, the victim’s true identity is still unknown. Her body was buried at a cemetery in Oklahoma City. Finding out who the woman is would hopefully lead to finding her family, and ultimately, her murderer.

“There’s really no way to pursue an investigation as far as working the crime because we have no idea who she is. We have to figure that out first,” Green said.

“The positioning of her arms suggested she was drug into the location where we actually located her at,” Cathy Foote, a technical investigator with Oklahoma County said.

“She has been murdered, dumped, and covered in lime,” Green said.

She was also shot at least three times in the chest.

According to the autopsy report, one of the bullets was still in her chest. When removing it, the medical examiner also found a dime in the wound. The dime, likely in her pocket at the time of the murder, was embedded in her chest by the force of the bullet.

The strangest part of it all is that her body was covered in lime or calcium carbonate. The chemical is sometimes used to decomposing brush and tree stumps. In this case, it did the complete opposite.

“Due to the moisture in the air from the river, it actually helped preserve the body. It almost mummified it,” Green said.

In fact, investigators believe her body had been there for a couple of weeks. Typically, within that time, a body would have started to decompose. But in this case, the lime preserved her to the point they could still find wounds from where she was shot, see some of her features, and even clearly find a heart tattoo on her chest.

While investigators followed hundreds of leads, they were never able to identify the woman.

“She’s known only at this time as the lime lady,” Green said.

Capt. Green believes someone somewhere has to know who she is, has to wonder where she is.

“I have a theory she may have been a foster child, maybe a runaway at some point. That could be one reason why no one has been looking for her,” Green said.

He says that theory is just speculation.

“She belonged to somebody. Somebody knew her. She had to have friends, family,” Foote said.

Numerous sketches have been released by investigators who have tried to reconstruct her face. The efforts have been done over and over again, trying to find someone who recognizes her. Each release does bring new leads, but so far, no answers.

It’s a mystery that investigators say still haunts them.

“Somebody knows something,” Green said.

In recent years, “Lime Lady’s” DNA has been checked against a database of missing persons from across the country. No match has been found.

She is believed to have been a white female in her early 20’s, around 5 feet 7 inches tall.

If you have any information that could help police figure out who she is, please call the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office at 405-713-1017.
