Photo Credit: Columbia Daily Herald Pat Moore holds up a pair of pants he and another hunter discovered with the skeleton of a young woman on Joe Brown Road east of Columbia on Feb. 14, 1975. MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. - It's a cold case nearly 40-years-old, but a Maury County detective hopes new technology will help identify a victim 37 years after her death. In February of 1975 two hunters discovered a young woman's remains in the woods off Joe Brown Road. After finding the body officers checked missing person's reports and followed leads, but couldn't identify her. The bones were sent to the University of Tennessee's Body Farm, a lab used to train officers and students in forensic research, where they have been ever since. Now, Detective Jerry Williams hopes scientists at the University of North Texas will be able to extract DNA from the bones, to help identify her. Williams also hopes to work with UT to develop a clay model of the young woman's face. Last May, a clay model was used to determine the identity of a man found in the Duck River years earlier. Detective Williams hopes the same will happen in this case. http://www.newschannel5.com/story/16945228...as-for-research ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Detectives with the Maury County Sheriff's Office said they hope a newly released composite image in the cold case murder of a teenage girl will help them find the suspect. The victim's bones were found in 1975. Forensic scientists have helped deputies determine the gender and general age of the victim, but they did not know what the girl looked like until now. Her bones were taken to Dr. William Bass at the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Center in Knoxville. The center was able to complete a facial reconstruction based on the victim's skull. Officials said the image is a new key piece of evidence they hope provides a major break in the case. They hope someone in the public will recognize the victim and help generate more leads. "There could be a brother or sister who knew she left and never knew what happened to her," said Det. Jerry Williams. Investigators believed the victim was an African American girl and was wearing a red shell blouse when she was discovered. Anyone who does is asked to contact the Maury County Sheriff's Department at (931) 380-5725. http://www.newschannel5.com/story/19597505...old-case-murder |
