By Molly Shen Watch the story Boaters on the Tacoma Narrows made a disturbing find -- a body floating in the water.

But their discovery led to an even stranger story.

Investigators can't figure out who the man is.

He jumped from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, in what you can only imagine was deep despair. He didn't leave behind the normal clues that come with a suicide.

Normally "we find a car parked nearby, we have someone call in saying someone is missing," says Det. Ben Benson. "That just hasn't happened in this case."

So investigators took the unusual step of drawing up a sketch and asking for help.

Surely someone knows the man.

The autopsy revealed cancer throughout his chest. He weighed 300 pounds and wore size 14 shoes.

Those facts should make him stand out.

But instead, they add to the question of why no one misses him.

"There were no matches on fingerprints, including the military," says Det. Benson. "So it doesn't appear this guy was in the military. It doesn't appear he's ever been arrested before."

In the month since the man died, there are no good tips, no solid leads.

Investigators hope someone will recognize him, so they can at least tell his family, and keep the tragic end to his life from stretching into his death.

If you recognize the man or have information that could help the investigation, please call Detective Sergeant Ben Benson at the Pierce County Sheriff's Department at 253-798-6096
