http://www.mydesert.com/article/20081224/N...224016/-1/RSS01 Son accused of killing his missing La Quinta mother By Stacy Wiedmaier • The Desert Sun • December 24, 2008 The son of a missing La Quinta woman was arrested today on suspicion of homicide, said Lt. Raymond Gregory at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Kevin Brom, 25, is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, said Sgt. Gregg Miller. According to police, the investigation into Terri Brom's disappearance focused early on Kevin Brom, who investigators say they believe is the only suspect. Miller said there were a lot of inconsistencies in his story and authorities believe a violent crime occured in the home on Avenida Carranza. Investigators believe Kevin Brom later disposed of the body, which has not been found. Clothing was found in the home which linked him to the homicide. Investigators are also looking for a large brown plastic trash bin missing from a neighbors yard. Investigators believe the suspect may have disposed of the body in the trash bin. Terri Brom, 59, was last seen around 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving before she left for work at Stater Bros. in La Quinta. Check back with the Desert Sun for more information on this breaking story. |

Terri Brom, 59, was last seen on Thanksgiving. Police believe her 25year-old son, Kevin Brom, is responsible for her disappearance. Brom was arrested at noon and is being held on $1 million bail, according to sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Guitierrez. Terri Brom was last seen at 11 p.m. as she left for work at Stater Bros. Her body has not been found but investigators officially call the case "a murder investigation," according to Raymond Gregory of the La Quinta Police Department. The website mydesert.com reports that clothing found in the Brom home links the son to the murder. Investigators are reportedly looking for a large brown trash bin that was taken from a neighbor's yard. Detectives think Brom took it to dispose of his mother's remains. Brom is expected to be arraigned in Indio next week. (© 2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. http://www.mydesert.com/article/20081203/N...030320/0/NEWS01 Investigators suspect foul play in woman's disappearance Colin Atagi • The Desert Sun • December 3, 2008 Investigators suspect foul play may have played a role in the disappearance of a La Quinta woman last week, an official said. Terri Brom, 59, was last seen 11p.m. Nov. 27 as she was leaving home for work, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Her family reported her missing Monday evening, and her Toyota Camry was discovered Tuesday morning, La Quinta Police Lt. Raymond Gregory said. The vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Stater Bros. shopping center on Highway 111 at Washington Street, where she worked. Family members and coworkers told investigators Brom followed a set schedule and it was unusual for her to have disappeared without any reason, Gregory said. “She had a good work record and it was very much out of character,” he said. Anyone with information may call the La Quinta Police Department at 863-8990 or Crime Stoppers at 341-STOP (7867). Colin Atagi |

http://www.mydesert.com/article/20081225/NEWS0801/812240417 Son suspect in murder of missing mom Stacy Wiedmaier • The Desert Sun • December 25, 2008 The same man who reported his mother missing four days after her disappearance was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder. Kevin Lee Brom, 25, was being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday, according to police. Terri Brom, 59, was last seen around 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving before she left for work at the La Quinta Stater Bros. Investigators believe Kevin Brom killed her in the family home he shared with his mother on Avenida Carranza in La Quinta. “The investigation was focused on Kevin very early on,” said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Gregg Miller. “There were a lot of inconsistencies in his story.” The Riverside County District Attorney's Office filed the murder charge against Kevin Brom on Wednesday. Authorities have not yet determined how she was killed, but believe Kevin Brom may have used a neighbor's large plastic trash bin to dispose of her body, which has not been discovered. Investigators are looking for the bin. Terri Brom's Toyota Camry was found in the grocery store parking lot Dec. 2. Investigators believe the car was planted there by her son after her death. Clothing was also found in the home, which linked him to the homicide, officials said. Dinah Serritelli had been Terri Brom's next-door neighbor for 10 years. She said it will be especially difficult to celebrate the holidays this year because of this “neighborhood tragedy.” “You could set your clock by her comings and goings,” Serritelli said. “The recent silence really bothers me now. We had anticipated she's not alive, but that's just awful. No one should have to go through that.” Based on what employers and friends originally told investigators, they immediately suspected foul play since it was out of character for Terri Brom to skip work or leave town without telling anyone. She worked the graveyard shift as a general merchandise clerk and created displays and stocked shelves at the store for seven years. Lt. Raymond Gregory, assistant police chief for La Quinta, added it's rare for the department to investigate a missing persons case. This was the second homicide of the year for the city after a gang-related shooting in the cove last March. |

La Quinta Woman Missing Since Thanksgiving Posted: Dec 3, 2008 12:40 PM EST La Quinta Woman Missing Since Thanksgiving (12/3) Terri Brom of La Quinta has not been seen since Thanksgiving. By Nathan Baca News Channel 3 Family and friends of a La Quinta woman are hoping someone may know where she may be. Terri Brom disappeared on Thanksgiving. The 59-year-old was last seen at her home just before leaving for work. Her car was found near her work, but she never showed up. Now - police say the few clues they have point to something violent. This picture of Terri Brom is one of the most recent taken that police are now showing. But friends say she recently cut her hair and dyed it red so she's going to look a little different. Neighbor Marie Bethel says, "She was very kind, loving, very friendly person. Private." Four days later, her family called police to report her missing. Terri Brom's car was found in a parking lot near the La Quinta Stater Brothers grocery store where she works in the back office. When asked if there are there any clues that lead police to believe that Brom is in danger right now, Lt. Raymond Gregory of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department responds, "Well, her vehicle was found in the parking lot and there were certain details of the investigation that we feel are suspicious. These details do lead us to believe that foul play may be involved in this case." Neighbor Marie Bethel adds that she feels confused. "Seeing the picture on TV kinda changed the perspective on everything. She's missing. She hasn't come home." News Channel 3 been trying to reach the Brom family to get more recent pictures of her out to the community. Police added they didn't find any signs of struggle in the car, but her disapperance just goes against all the habits everybody knows that Brom has. http://www.kesq.com/global/story.asp?S=9451530 |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woman Vanishes from La Quinta http://www.kmir6.com/Global/story.as...nav=menu1458_2 By: Ciara Coyle - KMIR6 Reporter Right now, local police need your help to find a missing La Quinta woman. Teri Brom has been missing since Thanksgiving night. Her family reported her missing this Monday. Police say they found her car in the La Quinta Stater Brothers parking lot on Tuesday morning. KMIR 6 spoke with the manager of the Stater Bros on Washington and Highway 111 where Teri worked. He says Teri has not reported to work since last Wednesday. La Quinta police say they found evidence in teri's car that points to foul play, but they tell us they're not able to discuss what that evidence is because it might hamper their investigation. Teri's disappearance worries her friend and neighbor, Marie Bether. Marie lives next door to Teri. She saw investigators all over the neighborhood on Tuesday. She feels that when detectives have been called in and the family reports one of their own missing, it's not a good sign. Marie says she's hopeful her friend will return home safe and sound. If you look at Teri's photo, Marie says her hair is much shorter now and it's reddish in color. If you've seen Teri or have any information that can help police find her, call Crimestoppers at 341-stop. Your call will remain anonymous. |

http://www.mydesert.com/article/20081230/N...310/1015/news08 Court filing: Missing mom told son to go Detective: Neighbor says woman told her she argued with son over his girlfriend Desert Sun staff, wire reports • December 30, 2008 A 25-year-old man charged with murdering his mother argued with her Thanksgiving morning about being asked to move out of her La Quinta home, according to court records released Monday. Terri Brom, 59, who remains missing, was last seen about 11 p.m. Nov. 27 before she left for work at a Stater Bros. supermarket in La Quinta. Terri Brom was reported missing Dec. 1 by her son, Kevin Lee Brom. Her Toyota Camry was found the following day in the parking lot of the supermarket at Washington Street and Highway 111 where she worked. Kevin Lee Brom was arrested Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to a murder charge on Friday. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $1 million bail and is due back in Indio Court for a preliminary hearing Jan. 8. “The circumstances of this case are extremely disturbing and this defendant must be held accountable for this senseless murder,” said Michael Jeandron, spokesman for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. It was unclear from court documents who Kevin Lee Brom's attorney is. According to a court document prepared by La Quinta police Det. Kenneth Patterson, Terri Brom told a friend that she was upset on Thanksgiving morning because of her son's insistence that his girlfriend's daughter move in with them. Patterson, who prepared the declaration in support of an arrest warrant, said Terri Brom also told her friend that she did not like her son's girlfriend and had asked the couple to move out. The girlfriend's full name is not being released because it's not a matter of public record, Jeandron said. There were no signs of “any type of foul play regarding Terri's vehicle,” Patterson wrote in the declaration. Investigators said they are still searching for a large brown Burrtec Waste garbage can that is missing from a neighbor's driveway. However, another neighbor handed over a large black trash bag to investigators, which had a strong odor of bleach and contained a pair of pants, a T-shirt, sweat shirt, shoes and fitted bed sheet, Patterson said. Also inside the bag were eight empty cans of white spray paint, Patterson said. Kevin Lee Brom admitted owning the shoes and garments inside the bag, stating that “‘he had thrown the clothes away two weeks prior because they had been ruined while he was painting inside the residence,” according to the declaration. When asked about the clothing in the bag being “wet and smelling of bleach,” Patterson said Kevin Lee Brom had no explanation and later failed to show up for a polygraph test. His shoes that were inside the bag, the wall and baseboard near his mother's bed, and a sheet and a light switch in the room tested positive for the presence of blood, Patterson said. “There were also several spots in the hallway leading toward the front of the residence which indicated positive for blood,” Patterson wrote in his report. DNA from Terri Brom's and her son's toothbrushes have been submitted for comparison. Patterson said that during a search of the home, he also noticed “there were possibly guns which should have been present inside the residence,” but none were found. When questioned about the guns, Kevin Lee Brom told investigators two of the guns were on consignment at a local pawn shop to be sold while a pistol had been “stolen/borrowed by a friend named Aaron,” according to the declaration. Kevin Lee Brom continued to say that Aaron had refused to return the pistol and that he does not know of Aaron's whereabouts. Elsewhere in the home, a fresh paint smell was detected coming from the mother's bedroom, and investigators noted her mattress appeared to have been recently replaced and did not match the box spring. Patterson said another neighbor reported seeing the son's station wagon leaving the residence on the evening of Dec. 1 with a mattress strapped onto the roof. Patterson said the newer mattress was purchased by Kevin Lee Brom at the Angel View Thrift Mart earlier that day — the same day he reported his mother missing. Cell phone records showed Kevin Lee Brom had been working in the area near the thrift store on Dec. 1. Cell phone records also showed that Kevin Lee Brom and his girlfriend had exchanged a flurry of calls and text messages on Thanksgiving, Patterson said, including one in which he asked, “Can we drug her?” and “What do I do?” The girlfriend told investigators that Kevin Lee Brom had told her to not come home on Thanksgiving because his mother had not yet left for work, Patterson said. He added that the girlfriend told detectives she “has no idea what happened to Terri.” She failed a polygraph test conducted by the FBI, which she attributed to being nervous, according to the declaration. |
