Family still mourns daughter's disappearance

Posted: Tuesday, Mar 20, 2007 - 09:35:39 am PDT
By KATHY NUSSBERGER
Hagadone News Network

PRIEST RIVER -- As the anniversary of her daughter's disappearance approaches, a mother is troubled her family lacks information in the case.

"I know the Bonner County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate this case and follows every lead, but so far, it's been three years and there is no word on our daughter," Lucille Kucera said.

Christine Marie Lott disappeared shortly before noon on March 25, 2004. Deputies said her husband, Steve Lott, said she came up missing after the two went to Mitchell's IGA in Priest River.

"Christine has three sons who still don't know where their mother is or whether she is still alive," Kucera said

She said her daughter's oldest son, now 17, lives in Kellogg. Her two younger boys, ages 15 and 13, are living in Phoenix with Christine's husband.

According to Kucera, Steve Lott told deputies that about 11 a.m. that day, he saw his wife get into a red pickup in the store parking lot.

"I don't know why he didn't follow the pickup or could not provide some type of description of the driver or license plate," Kucera said. "It feels so surreal at times to think of my child just vanishing."

Kucera said at other times, "I have hope that she will return, but then a tip will fail to materialize and just as suddenly that hope disappears, and the emptiness settles into my soul.

"All I know for sure is that my daughter is gone, and she is dearly loved and missed by her family," she said.

In less than three months after his wife disappeared, Steve Lott moved to Phoenix with the two youngest boys. Kucera said neither are his biological sons.

Sheriff's Lt. Gary Johnston, the lead investigator in the case, said the case is far from closed.

"We still haven't located Christine," Johnson said.

Kucera said Steve Lott had the youngest boy before Christine disappeared, and although the family had considered keeping both the oldest and middle child with them, "the two younger boys were so close, and we decided that separating them was not in their best interest."

All three boys stayed with Kucera and her husband in Boundary County after Steve Lott left in June. They sent the two youngest to Phoenix at the end of July that year.

"Steve was the only father they'd ever really known," Kucera said, because the couple had been married for eight years.

For the third year, Kucera has submitted letters to area newspapers in an effort to remind people her daughter still has not been found.

Kucera asks anyone with information about the case to contact Johnston at (208) 263-8417.

Classification: Missing
Date Of Birth: July 18, 1970
Age: 33 years old
Height and Weight: 5'2 - 5'4, 105 - 110 pounds

Clothing/Jewelry Description: A blue and white shirt and possibly a gold wedding ring with a small diamond.

Details of Disappearance

Lott was last seen in Priest River, Idaho at approximately 11:00 a.m. on March 25, 2004. She had an argument with her husband while they were driving and they stopped at the Mitchell's IGA store in the 10 block of Sandy Ridge Road. Lott's husband went into the store to purchase something, and she stayed outside. Lott may have made a call from a pay phone while her husband was absent. Afterwards, he saw her get into a red 1990s model Ford truck with Washington plates. He could not describe the driver.

Lott took $500 from her bank account before she left, but there has been no bank, credit, or cellular phone activity on her accounts since her disappearance. Her husband reported her missing two days after he last saw her. Lott left three sons behind when she vanished. Her family says it is very uncharacteristic of her to abandon them, but police can find no evidence of foul play in Lott's case. Her husband is not considered to be a suspect in her disappearance.

There is no evidence that Lott's marriage was unusually troubled, but she was reportedly upset when her oldest child moved in with his father a few days prior to her disappearance. She has never been heard from again. She may be in Washington state. Lott's case remains unsolved.

Shopper reports seeing missing woman

March 30, 2006

Posters of a missing Priest River woman were distributed in Lewiston this week after a shopper reported seeing her at a Lewiston Safeway store.

A customer told authorities he recalled seeing Christine Marie Lott in the meat aisle at the store. Bonner County sheriff's Lt. Gary Johnston said he wasn't able to confirm the woman was Lott because of problems with the store's video surveillance tapes.

"A few of the cashiers thought she looked familiar," Johnston said.

The mother of three was featured Sunday in The Spokesman-Review in a story on missing persons in North Idaho. Lott, who would be 35, was reportedly last seen at Mitchell's IGA store in Priest River on March 25, 2004.

Her husband told police they had an argument and that she got into a red truck with Washington license plates and left. Johnston said nobody else saw the truck or Lott leaving.

Lucille Kucera, Lott's mother, said that as more time passes, the more she worries her daughter may be a victim of foul play. She said she doesn't believe her daughter would leave and not contact Kucera or her children.

Kucera said she talked to her daughter often. Just before she disappeared, the two talked about what Lott was going to plant in her garden.

Lott is 5 feet 2, weighs 110 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Johnston at the Bonner County Sheriff's Office at (208) 263-8417, ext. 203.
