The Pocatello Police Department needs your help in locating an elderly man who has been missing since Friday.

Sixty-eight-year-old Jon Barrett of Pocatello was first reported missing last Friday. He is described as 5'8" tall, 185 pounds, with brown shoulder-length hair. Barrett could be driving a light green Dodge Caravan.

If you have any information that might help police locate him, call 234-6100.

Pocatello man still missing
POCATELLO -- Police have developed no new leads in the search for a local man who has been missing since late last week.

Jon Barrett, 68, is a familiar face about town, often seen walking his four dogs. Barrett has brown, shoulder-length hair and a moustache and weighs approximately 185 pounds.

Pocatello Police Detective Sgt. John Walker said several detectives have been assigned the case, but no clues have surfaced yet as to Barrett's location.
Family members have distributed posters around town in hopes of obtaining any information as to Barrett's whereabouts.

"We haven't heard anything or got any leads," said Barrett's son, Bryan Lloyd. "It's still a mystery. We're all stumped."
Lloyd said his father regularly visits area thrift stores. He was last seen at Westwood Discount between 11:30 a.m. and noon on Nov. 5.

"If he doesn't hit all of those every day, he hits all of them every other day," he said. "He's kind of obsessive-compulsive (about) trying to find the best deal."
Anyone with information is requested to call the Pocatello Police at 234-6100.

Rally for Jon Barrett
Featured Video

Rally for Jon Barrett

When Jon Barrett went missing from Pocatello earlier this month, he left behind a lot of worried friends and family but mostly a lot of unanswered questions.

Today those close and worried about Jon, gathered to hopefully answer those questions about his disappearance and keep the awareness out there that he is still missing.

Today at Caldwell Park in Pocatello a rally was held so people could discuss Jon's disappearance, find out the latest on the search for him, and also let people know he is still missing.

Jon's family organized the rally and provided everyone with the latest information they knew.

Gordon Barrett, Jon's youngest brother, says police have received a few possible sightings of Jon; mostly north or west of Pocatello.

Nothing has come from those sightings but Gordon says that just gives the family hope that Jon is out there alive.

Gordon Barrett, Jon's Brother: "We still really hold hope that Jon is out wandering, I mean, the best case scenario for us right now is that he has some sort of medical condition that is keeping him from really knowing who he is or where he is."

Gordon also says he can not believe the support his family is receiving from the community at this time and he greatly appreciates it.

The family has created a blog to provide everyone with the latest information.

That blog is: www.joncbarrett.blogspot.com

Randall Toone

By Hailey Higgins, Local News 8 Reporter

IDAHO FALLS - The man detectives say is the last person in contact with missing John Barrett pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.

Bonneville County Prosecutor Dane Watkins said Randall Toone used Barrett's debit card in Idaho Falls just one day after Barrett was reported missing in Pocatello.

Toone is facing grand theft, forgery of a financial transaction card, and fraudulent use of a financial transaction card.

Prosecutors said Toone used Barrett's Bank of America debit card at Ross Dress for Less on November 10, 2008 and charged less than $20.

Toone's attorney, John Cutler said Toone had permission to use the card.

The jury trial will start at the end of July.

Pocatello
Police Looking for Clues in Cold Cases

Posted: Nov 9, 2009 07:20 PM CST

by Bill Kotowski

One year ago, the Pocatello Police received a missing persons call for Jon Barrett.

Now after hundreds of man hours, the police are still looking for clues that may break this case.

Jon Barrett disappeared last November leaving behind a number of questions.

When Barrett was first reported missing his car was also gone but a short time later it was returned to his Pocatello home.

Then earlier this year Randall Toone was arrested in Las Vegas for fraudulently using Jon Barrett's credit card just days after he disappeared.

Toone later pleaded guilty to one count of fraudulent use of a financial transaction card although he claimed Barrett had given him permission to use his card.

Police are looking for any additional clues that might bring this case to a close.

They say right now this is a missing persons case but the investigation is being conducted more like a homicide investigation.

There is a $10,000 reward for any information that might lead to an arrest and conviction, but investigators say that's not the only reason the public should get involved.

Captain Terry Felsman, Pocatello Police: "Mr. Barrett has a child and he has a family. We certainly want to the best job we can for them and for Mr. Barrett. We don't want this case to go cold and we don't want people to forget."

Police are still looking for clues on another case that they want to keep from going cold.

Detectives are still investigating the homicide of Lorne Red Elk that took place earlier this summer.

He worked at KPVI as a camera operator and at Duffy's Bar as a bouncer.

In June he was working at the bar when he was found laying unconscious in a nearby alley.

He died later at E.I.R.M.C. from severe head trauma.

This is another case police believe they can solve but they are still asking for anyone with information to come forward to help make that a reality.

There is a $3,000 reward in that case.

Anyone with any type of information on either case is urged to call the Pocatello detectives at 234-6121. They say every bit of information is important no matter how insignificant it may seem.

COLD CASE PART 1: Jon Barrett's Disappearance
Page Last Updated: Wednesday April 20, 2011 4:18pm MDT
By: Stuart Summers

Several Pocatello cold cases are back in the spotlight as authorities work to find the missing pieces required to solve them. On Tuesday the Pocatello Police Department announced progress has been made on six of these cases.

Over the next week KPVI News 6 will take a look into each case, what police are saying about the investigation, and how the public's help is needed.

Tuesday’s segment focuses on the disappearance of Jon Barrett.

Detective Kirk Howe, Pocatello Police Department: "On November 9, 2008, Jon Barrett was reported missing by his sister..."

It's a case that has stumped authorities for over two years and still remains a mystery.

Detective Howe: "The Pocatello Police Department has been working the investigation and has followed up on numerous tips, none of which have provided any new evidence."

A short time after Jon Barrett was reported missing, his van was returned to his home and police still don't know how it got there. That's just one of the missing pieces to this puzzle.

Terry Felsman, Pocatello Police Department: "People see things and hear things. It will be one of our citizens that will call in a tip that will help us solve this puzzle.”

Last month the Pocatello Police Department posted Jon Barrett's case on a billboard, hoping someone would come forward with information. Authorities say tips from all their cold case billboards have already started coming in and each one is taken seriously.

As for Jon Barrett's case, police say since the initial investigation they have followed up on numerous tips, but the case is still cold.

Chief J.R. Miller, Pocatello Police Department: “Someone in this community saw something. They might not know the significance of what they saw. We are pleading that they call us with that tip.”

If you have any information that could help authorities with Jon Barrett's disappearance, you're encouraged to contact the authorities.

Wednesday evening KPVI News 6 will take us through the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of Lorne Red Elk and what police are saying about that case.
