Ceremony marks anniversary of Lufkins disappearance Posted: Apr 07, 2011 10:16 PM EDT Updated: Apr 07, 2011 10:16 PM EDT By Brian Allen - email For the last year, we have been keeping track of the investigation into the disappearance of A-J Lufkins. Lufkins disappeared after a night of drinking at the American Legion bar in Sisseton. While no authorities will go on record to discuss the circumstances of his disappearance, several witnesses tell Action News that Lufkins got into a fight with as many as three other people before vanishing. Since that night, there has been no sign of A-J. On Thursday night in Agency Village, there was a community service to commemorate Lufkins life. At the community center in Agency Village, a community wide response to the most painful of circumstances...a family who doesn't know if one of their cherished loved ones is dead or not. "I didn't want it to be a memorial, cause we haven't found him yet. That's not the way I wanted it." For one year now. Sheila Lufkins has waited for some type of news, good or bad, about her son A-J. She has looked at pictures, unable to touch him and not knowing where he is. It has been a living hell. "I haven't found the answers yet so I still believe he might be out there." Community volunteers helped organize this celebration of A-J's life. No one here wants to say the word death. But A-J's grandfather, Carl Lufkins, believes his grandson...the young man who used to visit him everyday...is lying dead somewhere...and Carl just wants to bring him home and say good bye. "If I could just find his body, recover his body. Then I would have peace. But this way I have it on my mind day and night." The Lufkins family and many in this community firmly believe A-J is the victim of foul play and that someone knows where A-J is. Sheila Lufkins doesn't want to wait another year for that information. Unfortunately the last year has brought far too many questions and not enough answers for the Lufkins family and the Sisseton Wahpeton community. This gathering was held in the name of hope. That somehow, some way, there would be some development that would end the mystery surrounding A-J's disappearance. So far that hasn't happened but no one here is giving up hope. South Dakota's Division of Criminal Investigation continues working on this case with assistance from the FBI. We are going to continue following the story of A-J's disappearance as well. http://www.ksfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=14407333 |

http://www.ksfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=14387093 Search continues for A.J. Lufkins Posted: Apr 05, 2011 1:12 PM EDT Updated: Apr 05, 2011 1:12 PM EDT By Jamie Stubbe - email Attorney General Marty Jackley said Tuesday that the Division of Criminal Investigation continues to search for Andrew Jon Lufkins of Sisseton, SD. Lufkins, 23, was reported missing a year ago on April 7, 2010. He was last seen near the Legion bar in Sisseton between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. Lufkins was believed to be on foot, wearing khaki pants, a dark colored sweatshirt with "South Pole" lettering on the front, a dark undershirt and a pair of blue and white shoes. The DCI has investigated many leads and conducted multiple searches in this case, and the family has also conducted volunteer searches to find Lufkins. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding Lufkins is asked to contact the Roberts County Dispatch Center at 605-698-7667. |

http://www.ksfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=12771360 $10,000 reward offered in AJ Lufkins case Posted: Jul 07, 2010 11:46 PM EDT Updated: Jul 08, 2010 4:33 AM EDT By Katie Taube A reward is up to $10,000 for information leading to AJ Lufkins. The Sisseton man was last seen at the American Legion Hall in Sisseton nearly three months ago. Tonight his family expressed their frustration in figuring out where their son, grandson and friend is. "Not a day goes by I don't think about him," says Lufkins' grandfather Carl Lufkins. He was one of several family members announcing tonight the reward for information leading to his missing grandson is now up to $10,000. Tonight the family says more than anything, they want some answers. "How the investigation is going - anything. I haven't spoke to anybody for about a month now so I don't know how it's going," says AJ's mother Sheila. She says she first reported her son missing in April. But she says two weeks later she found out the case wasn't in the tribal police system. "I was really angry because I reported it, the city told me I had to report it with the tribe." Sheila says nothing was done. "Just that one day they searched when he first disappeared," says Carl Lufkins. The family says it's not like AJ to just take off with no clothes or possessions. And they're waiting for the information that will give them closure. His mom Sheila says, "We just want information to bring him home." Money for that $10,000 reward was collected from fundraisers, donations and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Tribal Secretary. If you have any information on what happened to AJ Lufkins, contact the Sisseton/Wahpeton Tribal Police. |
