On Saturday, 07-15-06, 50 year old Victoria Cotton left her residence in Goleta to go to the Farmers Market or possibly the French Festival in Santa Barbara. As of this date, August 9th 2006, she has not been seen or heard from. Victoria Cotton is described as a white female, approximately 5'-7" tall, 135 lbs, with blond hair and green eyes. She sometimes wears glasses. Victoria suffers from memory loss due to a prior illness and has difficulty keeping track of time and her surroundings. Victoria Cotton frequents the Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) area and often uses public transportation to get around town. Cotton has gone missing in the past, but has returned within a day of her disappearance. The Sheriff's Department continues to actively investigate this case. Although the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are unknown, her disappearance itself is suspicious. Sheriff's Detectives have retraced Victoria Cotton's last known steps, used aerial surveillance, and K9's in attempt to locate her. Detectives have combed homeless shelters, searched homeless camps and countless other locations. Detectives have also interviewed numerous subjects who may have seen her. The department has expanded the search to include the Tri-Counties area. The Cotton family has also been active in the search for Victoria and has assisted with the Sheriff's Department investigation. Help Find Vickie Website The media interest has generated numerous leads which detectives continue to investigate. We encourage the public to remain vigilant, and report any possible sightings of Victoria Cotton to the Detective Scherbarth at the Sheriff's Department, 681-4150. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information regarding news related issues please contact Sgt. September 01, 2006 - Reason to be neighborly As I wandered the part of Goleta where Vickie Cotton was last seen in mid-July, I was surprised that no flyers were visible in any of the storefront windows. A neighbor has disappeared, but somehow, with the passage of a few weeks, we have chosen to simply accept her absence. Have we come to believe that “these things happen?” I cannot accept this. Our society cannot have become this dysfunctional. However much we treasure our liberty, independence and privacy, a person should not be able to simply “disappear” from our midst and generate a mere shrug of the shoulders from her neighbors. As I’ve walked the streets, parks and alleys of Goleta, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Ojai looking for Vickie, staring hard into the faces of people I would ordinarily ignore, I know now that we are doing something wrong. We are too many strangers and too few neighbors; too many drawn curtains and too few handshakes. We are too many iPods and too few smiles. I feel ashamed of my own alienation, and I am worried for my community. So I am begging you, my neighbors, to help us make a new start. Walk next door and ask your neighbors, “Have you seen Vickie?” Details about Vickie are available at http://members.cox.net/helpfindvickie/Site...kie%20home.html. Someone out there can help, and if enough of us try, we can find Vickie. Maybe we can find a better way to live together at the same time. Good luck to us all, — Dean Zatkowsky Ojai (Vickie Cotton was last seen July 15 on her way to the farmers market in Santa Barbara. According to Santa Barbara police, family members believe the 50-year-old woman might have gone to the French Festival in Santa Barbara’s Oak Park. — Editor) Comments My organization received an email copy of the flyer from Jodi House just a few days after Vickie Cotton went missing. For what it's worth, I not only posted the flyer but forwarded the email to everyone in my email address book, which includes many service providers throughout Ventura County. We are still hopeful that she will turn up, and I'm sure a great many others also still have her flyer hanging. Just wanted you to know that there IS a contingent of caring neighbors out there!
