HOUSTON -- A young mother's mysterious disappearance, nearly 20 years ago, has cops stumped and her family desperate for answers. And to make matters more difficult, clues to her disappearance are now missing, as well.

It was the night before Thanksgiving in 1989, when 23-year-old Lorraine Migl Light disappeared without a trace.

Cynthia Migl says, earlier that evening, her sister had gone to get groceries to make Thanksgiving dinner for her 3-year-old daughter. After that, Cynthia says, Lorraine's mother-in-law took her out to a nightclub for drinks, while Lorraine went out with friends.

When Cynthia returned home, at around 3am, to the apartment she'd shared with her sister, Lorraine wasn't there. In the kitchen, Cynthia saw grocery bags on the floor and a turkey defrosting in the sink.

The answer machine was blinking, and when Cynthia played the message, she was confused. The caller said it was Lorraine, but Cynthia says, it didn't sound like her sister.

The voice sounded funny, she says, telling Cynthia she had met someone and was going to Mexico for a few days. Cynthia says she knew her sister would not have left, especially on Thanksgiving.

Plus, she says, whoever had left the message called her "Cindy", a nickname Cynthia says, Lorraine never used.

When Lorraine didn't show up by Thanksgiving evening, Cynthia got concerned. She called police, and Harris County Precinct 4 Constables responded and took the report. Nothing happened.

Days passed, then months, then years. At some point, the case was transferred to the Harris County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Division. But what happened from there is unclear.

"What we'd done, I don't know," says Sgt. Craig Clopton, who's now been assigned to the case. "I can't find any records of that", he adds, shaking his head.

In 1995,six years after Lorraine disappeared, two witnesses said they had overheard the father of Lorraine's boyfriend talking in a nightclub.

"He made some admissions", says Clopton, regarding the Lorraine's disappearance.

"They'll never find her," was one of the remarks the witnesses passed on.

Cynthia says, upon being told of the overheard conversation, she filed a report with the Sheriffs Department. Today, that report is nowhere to be found.

Nineteen years after Lorraine Migl Light vanished into thin air, all the clues to her disappearance seem to have mysteriously disappeared, as well. Police reports, interviews, polygraphs, and that telephone recording-- all of it is now gone.

Cops are trying to figure out what happened to the evidence, as they now must start from scratch to piece together the case, hoping for clues to solve the case and give the family answers they've been desperately seeking for almost two decades.

Lorraine's daughter, Shelby, is now in her early twenties. While she's been estranged from her family over the years, she is also desperate to know what happened to the mother she barely got to know.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division at 713-967-5810. The family is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or person responsible for the disappearance, and presumed murder, of Lorraine Migl Light.
