Authorities searched the area near Aransas Pass, but no evidence related to her case was discovered. Human remains were found in Aransas County in March 2005 and authorities are investigating the possibility that they may be in Roberson's. Roberson's disappearance remains unsolved.

Investigator Still Searching For Missing Woman

Updated: May 25, 2009 11:21 PM EDT

Investigator Still Searching For Missing Woman

ARANSAS PASS - Memorial Day is also National Missing Children's Day and one of the most high profile cases in the Coastal Bend is that of 13-year-old Elisa Roberson of Aransas Pass.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of her disappearance and investigators said there are new leads in the case.

Roberson was a happy 13-year-old when she disappeared back in 1989.

She left her Aransas Pass home to go to a friend's house, but never made it.

"She virtually just vanished," Mike Kelley, a consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said.

He's been working on Roberson's case over the past several years, and said new information received within the last year has placed the young teen back into the spotlight.

Cadaver dogs recently gave investigators some new leads that involve what he said is a person of interest.

He couldn't elaborate, but said it could be the break they've been waiting for.

"It's a long shot, the dogs are pretty good, but her remains, that would be 20 years ago, so we're hoping that might pan out," Kelley said.

As he works to solve the mystery, there's still hope that someone will come forward with information.

Too much time may have passed though to rely on forensics to generate new leads. It's up to the public to speak up and help solve Roberson's disappearance.

"What I try and do every year is get publicity on the Roberson case because it brings it out into the media attention and the community gets to look at it again, and you know, someone might get motivated to bring in some information," Kelley said.

In the meantime, the family plans a memorial service for this August, marking the 20th anniversary of Roberson's disappearance. However, as long as her case remains a mystery, Kelley said they will never get the closure they deserve, which is why he'll stay on the trail that is finally beginning to heat up.

"There's nothing more tragic than losing a child and they have to live with that every single day. So, I think we owe to those people to do everything we can," Kelley said.
