Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance

Missing Since: December 12, 1981 from Mineola, Texas
Classification: Endangered Missing
Age: 24 years old
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female. Blonde hair.


Details of Disappearance
Mullins was last seen in Mineola, Texas on December 12, 1981. She was going to a Christmas party with a male acquaintance, and disappeared after he picked her up. He is the last person known to have seen her. The party was at a restaurant called Arnold's, across the street from the garage apartment where Mullins lived. Her only surviving relative is her sister. She stated Mullins had gotten involved with a rough crowd prior to her disappearance. She has never been heard from again.

Kevin Leon Kirbo is the prime suspect in Mullins's disappearance. He is currently serving a life sentence for the 1995 murder of a Rains County, Texas woman. Authorities began searching a site along the SabinE River near Mineola, Texas for Mullins's remains in May 2010. They stated information provided by Kirbo lead them to that location. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

WOOD COUNTY, TX - An investigation into a missing person case involving Marla Mullins, has been ongoing for 29 years and has involved countless hours of searching and manpower.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the Mineola Police Department and the Wood County District Attorney's Office will continue to investigate this case and follow-up on all leads and information.

A preliminary search involving three outside agencies has been conducted in an undisclosed wooded area for six days with no results.

Since the case is 29 years old, it is necessary to re-interview some of the witnesses who have been previously interviewed and to interview some potentially new witnesses in light of the new evidence that has come to the attention of Wood County authorities.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department will actively investigate this case by consulting with experts and utilizing modern forensic methods to try and bring resolution to this case.
