BATON ROUGE — Grambling State University and two other campuses in the University of Louisiana System are in financial trouble and need help, says ULS President Sandra Woodley. “Grambling is one of the most financially distressed campuses in our system,” Woodley said Monday at the Press Club of Baton Rouge. “But it’s not the only one that’s financially distressed.” Repeated state budget cuts hit smaller campuses hard over the past several years, and tuition increases have not been enough to offset the cuts. After her speech, Woodley said the University of New Orleans, Grambling and Nicholls State University in Thibodaux “have the thinnest margins.” “Institutions like Grambling and the other institutions need to reach out to private industry” for institutional investment, she said. “All of our institutions are looking at their financial indicators” to determine how to best manage their money. www.theadvertiser.com/article/20131202/NEWS01/312020030/?nclick_check=1 |

Neither do I. It is the reality of the budget cuts to universities and in my opinion the "big" cut right after Katrina from the LSU system. That put UNO in the hole before the other universities took the hits a couple of years later. I don't blame Dr. Fos on this as he inherited a very bad situation and he is trying to make things better. It is just a damn shame that we are even dealing with this but.....unless we have leadership in BR, not just from the governor but also the legislators, that put an emphasis on higher ed I am afraid everyone is going to be in for a bumpy ride. |
